Rotoworld:

Lions coach Jim Caldwell wants to pass less in 2015.
Matthew Stafford attempted 602 passes last season, a four-year low, but also the fifth most in the league. "When I tell you that we're not going to throw the ball any more than we threw it (last year), that's a fact," Caldwell said. "If we do throw it more, that means we're behind, we're struggling, we're not winning, we're not a very good football team, plain and simple." Despite Caldwell's pleas for a more Cowboys-esque offense, we'd be shocked if Stafford didn't again finish in the top 7-8 in attempts.

They are going to throw less but lost their best defensive player and another one of their better ones? Mmmmmk.

Exactly. It would be nice to play more ball control but the team is not setup that way. The are not a lineup and smash you in the mouth team. WIth the defensive hits I expect them to take it to the air even more this year. This team is in trouble this season unless Stafford takes a big step forward.

Unless they draft Gurley.

The thoughts of a loser. How about 'We are throwing because we have Calvin Johnson and want to put up TDs not FGs. We want to win 45 - 24, as opposed to trying to squeak out a 4th Q win on a FG.'

Matthew Stafford - QB - Lions

OC Joe Lombardi wants Matthew Stafford to take more chances with the football this season.

The Lions pulled the reins in on Stafford last season, asking him to take a more conservative/game-managing approach as they rode an elite defense. It resulted in a career-low 12 interceptions and an 11-5 record, but the Lions were held under 20 points seven times. "I thought that he played smart football (last year), and sometimes to a fault," Lombardi said. "We'll look to him to maybe take a few more chances this year with the football. He's got the arm to do it and he's got the receivers to throw it to."

For whatever reason, it seemed like Detroit was super conservative last season. Surprised to find out they were ranked 11th in pass attempts. With a healthy Calvin Johnson, better understanding of the offense, desire to take more chances downfield, and a slight regression in defense (Suh's departure), I actually like Stafford as a top 7ish QB this year.

I've had him since day 1 but for the first time am seriously considering cutting ties. Last two years were extremely frustrating with the low and inconsistent td totals.

Somebody convince me he will be more aggressive and rebound. He's got great weapons, the D might take a step back, 2nd year with OC. If only Calvin the wuss can stay healthy.

Calvin is only going to get nicked up more and more each year, Caudwell isn't going to let him wing it 50 times a game like used to. Stafford is never going to be an efficient quarterback, when he was a fantasy stud he did it with volume.

So you're down on him for fantasy.

Touchdowns should go up this year assuming Calvin stays healthy and Ebron has a pulse. Offensive line is better so he should have more time to throw than last year. When he was a fantasy stud he did with volume and he had more time in the pocket.

Very high on Stafford this year and dont agree with the negative comments two posts higher.

I really like Stafford this year vs his ADP. I like him better then Romo, Brees, Newton, even Peyton, who are all going ahead of him. I think the run game is finally blossoming and that is going to do nothing but help him and open up the deep balls. Only concern is if Tate can keep it up. Will get a bit more attention this year, but even if he does, it will be the Calvin show. With a slight regression on their defense, they could be in some higher scoring games then usual. Good value as one of those middle 4-8 ranked QBs that have some good middle round value this year, and I'd grab him if I missed out on the Ben/WIlson/Ryan tier.

Don't like his prospects as long as he has a Herminator as the HC. His stats nose dived and they put up an 11-5 season. Don't expect them to unleash him. Their HC is happy kicking FGs.

Not a big fan of Caldwell. But I think last year was a learning year with the training wheels on. This year, they will let him loose.

What does being happy kicking FG's have to do with it? Do they go for it on 4th less and thus decrease staffords potential stats? Don't know off the top of my head if they kicked long fg attempts more then most teams.

AA out of the backfield on checkdowns + what should be a better season from Ebron in year two should also help.

No news on Stafford today? Did they have practice?

Surprising to not see a peep. Only qb on my roster and with waivers coming tonight, nice to know how hard I need to go after someone with Romo and Brees owner panicking as well.

I guess I'm the only chump starting this guy. No reports from yesterday. Hoping to hear something today. Did the Lions not practice yesterday?

I think most teams don't practice Tuesdays unless they have a Thursday night game.

Whoever starts for Detroit may not finish. It's that bad.....

Although maybe Lombardi can come up with a game plan that keeps Staff off a stretcher.

Everyone seems so down on Stafford. I think for redraft purposes he's pegging downward. Bad protection, poor scheme. But I'm glad to own him in dynasty. He's still plenty young to turn it around and I believe in his talent.

Big arm, poor accuracy and decision making
Pretty sure he thinks he knows everything too. Seriously doubt he puts in film work like the greats do. He just gives that vibe of Cutler in a different manner.

No practice Thursdays either? Can't believe there's not an update on this guy today. Then again, from the negative remarks in this thread, maybe I'm the only guy leaning on starting him and needing to know.

He outscored his projections last week and barely missed the week before. With the lions looking the way they are, he's defnitely going to keep throwing the ball. He's definitely not crushing it for my fantasy team, but he's not dragging it down either and was a late round pick.

Today is Wednesday, and most teams resume practice Wednesdays. The Packers, who are playing Monday night, are resuming practice tomorrow (Thursday).
