Wonder if he’ll crack the top 10 in rankings for week 4? (He was 11 this week, 12 week 2, and IIRC 12 week 1)

With tonight’s game still yet to play, he's QB6 in my league’s format. 

 
Has anyone explored the trade market with him? He's a low-range QB1 by the numbers, but I feel like there might be an opportunity to leverage all the MVP buzz. Like maybe target a team with a lesser QB (Hurts*, Tannehill, Burrow) where I package Stafford and, say, James Robinson for an upgrade at RB, or Stafford and Devonta Smith for an upgrade at WR.

Anyway, just noodling on the idea a little. Curious to see what trades he's being included in in other leagues.

* Yes, I know Hurts has outperformed him statistically so far. But he's kind of the anti-Stafford in that sense; it doesn't feel nearly as good to have him as your QB given how he's played. Obviously with a trade like this you're hoping you have an owner who's more susceptible to buzz than stats.

 
Matthew Stafford completed 26-of-41 passes for 280 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Rams' 37-20, Week 4 loss to the Cardinals. 

Stafford was having an awful fantasy day until finding Robert Woods for a 14-yard touchdown with the Rams trailing 37-13 with 1:14 remaining. That saved face on the fake gridiron, but this was Stafford's first face plant as a Los Angeles transplant. He was sailing throws and escaped with just the one turnover thanks to a roughing the passer penalty that negated a second pick. Stafford did appear to notch a fourth quarter rushing touchdown but was ruled down and the Rams declined to challenge. It was a frustrating day, but we are still more inclined to believe in Weeks 1-3 Los Angeles instead of this week's group. That will be especially true for Thursday's plus matchup in the Seahawks.

Matthew Stafford completed 25-of-37 passes for 365 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Rams' 26-17, Week 5 win over the Seahawks. 

For the second time in five days, Stafford appeared highly inaccurate early, consistently sailing passes. FOX television cameras found Stafford's throwing hand being examined and taped up on the sideline near the end of the first half. He then went into overdrive after the break, piling up 234 yards and his score, a 13-yard strike to Tyler Higbee. Higbee easily destroyed S Jamal Adams in coverage, and Stafford dropped in a layup. Stafford's first half pick was a truly horrendous end zone attempt where he was trying to throw the ball away. The biggest storyline of the evening was Stafford finally striking up a connection with Robert Woods, whom he found for 12 grabs and 150 yards. Stafford thankfully has 10 days to get his throwing hand right for a Week 6 matchup with the Giants.

Matthew Stafford completed 22-of-28 passes for 251 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception in the Rams' 38-11, Week 6 win over the Giants.

Stafford added two carries for 12 yards. He had no trouble picking apart the Giants all day. The only reason he didn't hang more points on them is that he got to sit out most of the fourth quarter. His 13-yard touchdown to Cooper Kupp gave the Rams a 35-point lead with 12 minutes remaining and Sean McVay was able to keep his quarterback on the sidelines for the rest of the game. Los Angeles faces the Lions next week. In an easy matchup, Stafford will push for QB1 numbers again.

Matthew Stafford has 17 pass attempts inside the 10 yard line, the fourth most this season. 

Only Tom Brady, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes have more. Six of Stafford's 16 touchdown tosses this year have come inside the 10, as head coach Sean McVay continues running a pass-heavy offense near the goal line. That kind of opportunity near the end zone should serve Stafford and his pass catchers well as the season wears on. No quarterback has more passing yardage of touchdowns in the red zone than Stafford. Brady and Stafford could be the last pure pocket passers to profile as top-flight fantasy options.

Will the defense allow Tyler Higbee to catch a TD? He almost never leaves the field on offense.

The 84% Snap Count is great. 138 routes run, not so much. He’s an excellent blocking TE; stays into block 21% of the time on passing downs (except Week 1 when he stayed int t block only twice.) 12.5% Target Share is good but most Top 5 TEs are at 18% or higher. He’s inline around 62% of the time. Because of his utilization and formation alignment - he’s lined up out wide 

Basically he’s the same low volume, low ceiling, TD dependent guy he has always been. Might score Week 7 bc Reeves-Maybin & Harris are horrendous in coverag.

But if I had to take a rando Ram to score I think it’s Van Jefferson.

I agree. It seems McVay is saving Jackson for important games and Jefferson for everything else. Jackson was first used vs Bucs than targeted a few times vs Cardinals. This game should be a blowout so I don't see Jackson getting in unless he gets a small screen to the house. I'd say woods/Kupp should get 1 each and then maybe 2 more. If it gets out of hand quick McVay just showed last week he will pull the starters in the 4th.

Either way, It should be a great offensive game for the Rams.

I wonder if the various rankers will put him higher than QB10 for once.  He put up 39+ for me, which is amazing considering he didn't play the 4th quarter.

Consensus ratings have him at #5 this week. Obviously a good spot, only downside would be them getting so far ahead where they would take the foot off the gas.

I hated seeing the backup in there for the whole fourth quarter this week. It’s the correct football move. It is a soul-crushing Fantasy football move though.

Matthew Stafford (back) didn't practice Wednesday.

Coach Sean McVay said Stafford has a sore back, but he's fully expected to play Sunday night against the Titans. Making a case for MVP, Stafford has a 22:4 TD:INT mark and is averaging a career-best 9.1 yards per attempt in the Rams' high-octane offense.

I can't find any updates on whether or not he practiced today. Anyone here have some insight?

My only backup option is JETS superhero White Mike, who is set to kickoff his game in two hours, so I'm stressing a bit about whether or not to take Stafford out.

 
Matthew Stafford (back) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. 

Coach Sean McVay has already said Stafford will be out there against the Cardinals, but you take notice any time a quarterback gets in back-to-back DNPs, especially when it is a 33-year-old dealing with a back issue. More than likely, Stafford will get slapped with a limited/questionable tag on Friday and be on course to start vs. Tennessee, but do not take his status for granted until you see such a designation.

He's suffered a litany of injuries over his career. I wonder what "biological age" his body is at this point 

 
Matthew Stafford completed 31-of-48 passes for 294 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Rams' Week 9 loss to the Titans.

It was an uncharacteristically terrible performance for Stafford, who previously looked like he would compete for the MVP crown. He threw back-to-back interceptions in the first half, one of which was returned by Titans DB Kevin Byard for a touchdown. Even if you ignore the turnovers, he only averaged 6.1 yards per attempt. Stafford will look to get back on track against the 49ers in Week 10.

Matthew Stafford completed 26-of-41 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Rams' 31-10, Week 10 loss to the 49ers Monday night.

The MVP frontrunner headed into Week 9, Stafford has now posted back-to-back awful performances in primetime losses to the Titans and 49ers. After tossing two early picks, one of which went for a pick-six, last week, Stafford did the exact same thing in this one, putting the Rams in a quick 14-0 hole. Stafford wasn't the only Rams player to have a bad game, as each of his pass-catchers had at least one drop, including Tyler Higbee, who had two and dropped one early that ended up in Jimmie Ward's hands for the pick-six. Stafford's other interception was a stupid deep shot to Odell Beckham on the opening drive that never should have been thrown. Stafford's touchdown was a 10-yard hookup with Higbee. The Rams need their Week 11 bye in the worst way. Stafford has to play better starting with a tough Week 12 road date at Green Bay.

MATTHEW STAFFORD QB, LOS ANGELES RAMS

NFL.com columnist Jim Trotter said there's a "growing perception that the more physical and muddy an opponent makes the game, the less the Rams like it."

The Rams have been physically dominated on both sides of the ball over the past couple weeks. In Week 9, the Derrick Henry-less Titans beat the Rams 28-16 while sacking Matthew Stafford five times and picking him off twice. The 49ers on Monday night intercepted two Stafford passes -- one for a touchdown -- while pressuring him throughout and sacking him twice. It's a curious trend for a Rams offensive line graded by Pro Football Focus as the best pass-blocking unit in the NFL. Stafford has been terrible under pressure over the past two games, completing six of 18 passes for 37 yards. On Monday night, the Niners defense overwhelmed the Rams, especially when LA was forced into obvious passing situations. Cooper Kupp is likely the only Rams player who can withstand the team's offensive struggles. Sean McVay will try to right the ship during the Rams' Week 11 bye.

Woof- they better get things figured out the next few weeks. I think I saw a chart that 2018 Goff has better EPA than 2021 Stafford with the same level of elite pass protection.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports Matthew Stafford "has elbow pain and his back has a chronic issue."

Russini added that Stafford deals with chronic back pain every day, noting, "his health is certainly an issue." Stafford popped up on the injury report earlier in the year with the back issue but it didn't cost him anything more than practice reps. It appears as though he is dealing with more than just the back problem, which is likely more serious than his practice reps would lead one to believe. No quarterback was sacked more than Stafford in Weeks 9 and 10. Expect Sean McVay to lighten Stafford's workload with a strong ground game and plenty of quick passes versus the Packers. Stafford remains a solid QB1 option despite the new concerns around his health.

Makes sense. He missed time back in 2019 because of a back injury but didn't have surgery if I remember correctly. I don't think most back injuries ever go away fully, more than likely they get worse and/or develop some type of arthritis. 

 
Matthew Stafford completed 23-of-30 for 287 yards and three touchdowns in the Rams' 30-23, Week 14 win over the Cardinals Monday night.

When the Rams needed it most, Stafford had arguably his best game of the season. L.A. was missing starters Darrell Henderson, Tyler Higbee, and Jalen Ramsey to COVID, while starting C Brian Allen was out with an injury. Stafford put the team on his back and fired touchdowns to Odell Beckham on a two-yard quick slant, Van Jefferson on a 52-yard deep ball over the top of the defense, and then perfectly placed a four-yarder to Cooper Kupp only where Kupp could catch it. Stafford averaged 9.6 yards per attempt, and his 139.2 passer rating was his best since Week 1. Stafford was just about flawless after the Rams went three-and-out on their opening drive. L.A. can now breathe a little easier at 9-4 and one game back of Arizona in the NFC West. Stafford gets Seattle's brutal pass defense at home in Los Angeles in Week 15.

Stafford still makes the same stupid mistakes he did as a rookie. Stafford has all the physical tools but has never had the high football QB IQ that would put him on the same level as a Rogers, Brady, Mahomes, Peyton type of QB.

Rams can win with Stafford as they are tons of talent.  I would like to see Stafford win with the Rams but the big pick 6s and INTs are always looming with Stafford.

It is strange, isn’t it? He has an amazing fastball, if you’ve ever been close to the field you can hear the difference in his throws. Nobody better at a sideline hole shot between the seams. Unlike some big armed quarterbacks, he can take something off it, throw a looper over the D, he can go sidearm while he’s falling down, the no look bullet - there is nothing lacking in the arsenal in terms of physical ability.

Which is why it is so vexing he makes ill-advised throws and poor decisions. Dude is whip smart and well versed in football nuance, but dang, just doesn’t have that “it factor” But in spite of the flaws, he has a great shot at making a deep run. It’s probably gonna come down to the one thing that has always been his nemesis - beating Rodgers in Lambeau.

I’ll always be a huge fan of 9.

Yes.   I have always like Stafford as a player and a person.  This is his make or break year. The team has the talent on both sides of the ball so we will se what happens.

100% agree, and is a big reason I don't really feel the Rams are a true contender. I personally think the Rams are very likely to be 1 and done. I don't think they are as good as TB, GB, or Dal, and I think Arizona, Philly, and potentially a rematch with the Vikings(with Cook) could give them real trouble.  

I think SF would be the best possible round 1 matchup for them. 

ETA: Stafford has always been a B- level QB.

Mr Overrated led the league in interceptions and pick sixes.

Also tied his career high in TDs with 41, Y/A, and wins; posted his 2nd best season in yards & passer rating (4th best QBR.)

Won his first division title and playoff game.

Next Up: the GoAT on the road

 
Matthew Stafford completed 31-of-45 passes for 337 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and rushed for eight yards on five attempts in the Rams' 20-17, NFC Championship win over the 49ers.

[The rushing numbers don't] tell the whole story, as Stafford picked up a couple first downs with his legs. A couple last-play kneel-downs sunk his yardage total. Stafford's two touchdown throws went to Cooper Kupp from 16 and 11 yards out in the first and fourth quarters for the 19th and 20th times this season. Stafford looked like he was going to pull a "Stafford" with an end-zone interception in the first half, but he overcame it at the end of the day and engineered a fourth-quarter comeback for the ages. The Rams overcame a 10-point deficit and will host the Bengals two weeks from now in L.A. for Super Bowl 56. Stafford has been a major part of the Rams' postseason run with a 6:1 TD:INT mark.

He did this in Detroit while never having a good run game and having Jim Schwartz, Jim Caldwell, and Matt Patricia as head coach. Gross.

So I think if he gets a ring this year he absolutely gets into the Hall. Plus by the time he retires he will prob be top 10 in those first 2 categories above, and maybe even a 2nd ring, who knows.

Always some guy cherry picking to build a ridiculous narrative. Goff wasn't taking this team anywhere. They went to the super bowl with him with one of the best rushing attacks in memory. And when that was finally stopped he only scored 6 points.

Feel great for Stafford. This one is for Calvin and Barry who unfortunately never got their chance and had their careers ruined and cut short by the Ford's.

Everything you say is accurate except lumping Caldwell in there. He went 36-28 in Detroit and made the playoffs 2 of 4 seasons. That's a damn miracle.
