QB Russell Wilson, NYG (1 Viewer)

I'd rather crash and burn with Fields than run Russ back. I might not watch if Russ comes back
They didn’t let Fields do much - there were some trust issues I think. I don’t see them bringing back Fields as a starter - I think they’d be better off, but I don’t think PIT thinks that.
he had a history of throwing a lot of INT. so they simplified the offense and ran it more conservative to keep him from throwing those bad INT.

and honestly he needed this. if he had stayed, I think eventually they would have opened that offense up a bit more and his numbers would have improved. arguably this is what he needed in his first year but he never got this kind of learning.

the fact that he can be a game manager is good. but now he needs to get to a point where he takes a few chances when it makes sense to do so. problem is.... figuring out where and when its appropriate to do this. thats the struggle with a QB like him. but you need to dip into that well if hes gonna learn. so they need to give him situational coaching so that he can establish when its appropriate and when you need to just check it down or throw it away.

The signs were encouraging. we at least know he can play without turning the ball over when he needs to.

Wilson disastrous in Giants debut

"3 HOF coaches have moved on from him in 4 seasons"

Daboli playing for his job. Wilson is 23-32 his last 4 seasons as a starter. Only way Daboli keeps his job is if Dart shows out this season. Dart did everything to earn the job this preseason.

Daboli did not commit to Wilson as Week 2 starter.

I didn't watch all of this game, but it was a testament to the power the NFL has over the media.

The monetary power of the NFL is the insane number of casual fans.
Hardcore fans have thought Russ is trash for at least the last 3 years, and are just counting down the seconds until he inevitably loses the job to Dart or Jameis.

But the FOX coverage is geared towards casual fans.

So, there was a pre-game puff piece interview with Russ.

And worst of all, Tom Brady spent 4 hours telling us how great Russell Wilson is in the YOL 2025 and what a true professional he is. Seriously, read that sentence again.

I get it. I'd do it to.
Those are some big checks.

Look, when you have a QB with a 59.3 QBR, you just gotta play him. No need to outthink the room.

"After a game -- it's an emotional game, tough game," Daboll said. "Didn't play particularly well, I would say collectively, but in terms of making any of those decisions -- really at any position or schematic changes -- I'd like to do it with a clear head and watch the tape. Again, like I said yesterday, that game doesn't fall on Russell Wilson. We got to do a better job collectively; coaching, playing. But Russ will be the starter."

in all fairness they did look good in the pre-season

Worst NFL Week 1 debuts

1. Russell Wilson, QB, New York Giants

It took all of one game for Wilson to shift from Big Blue's unquestioned starter to a veteran at least temporarily twisting in the wind regarding his status when Brian Daboll wouldn't commit to keeping him in place immediately after the loss to the Commanders. At least that was clarified one day later, when Daboll shot down any notion of going to first-round pick Jaxson Dart right away. But the change in tone was notable after Giants brass went to great lengths this offseason to stifle any notion of a quarterback controversy. Wilson's debut was a full-on systemic failure, but the combination of New York's pervasive protection problems and the signal-caller's panicked responses proved to be a lethal cocktail. That dynamic rendered Wilson's deep passing ability moot, sapping the team of one of its primary sources of optimism. Inserting Dart might not be the answer, either, especially given the continued absence of left tackle Andrew Thomas, the one strong link in an otherwise broken chain. But unless Wilson and the rest of the unit can get right in a hurry, the franchise's embattled leadership might soon have to consider taking drastic action.

Russell Wilson completed 30-of-41 passes for 450 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while running 3 times for 23 yards in the Giants’ 40-37, Week 2 overtime loss against the Cowboys.

The moonball was working as the Cowboys defense looked woefully overmatched, barely challenging some of the touchdown throws. Wilson was 7-of-11 for 264 yards and all three of his touchdowns on throws that went over 20 yards past the line of scrimmage. But in what appeared to be a miscommunication to end the game, Wilson threw a sitting duck pick to Donovan Wilson — the second ball the Cowboys successfully defensed all day — when Malik Nabers turned to the corner route instead of back over the middle on New York’s second possession of overtime. Jaxson Dart worked in sparingly and only on runs, with three snaps. Wilson’s inability to win the game won’t keep the heat entirely off of him going forward — almost nothing could after Dart’s preseason — but this will at least end calls for his benching for the moment. The main takeaway from this game in fantasy should be that we need to target the Dallas secondary [No DaRon Bland]. The Giants will draw the Chiefs in Week 3 and Russ figures to go back to more modest numbers in that one.

you know how some people are. they will blame him for the loss when in fact the real issue is that the defense allowed 40 points.

as far as I'm concerned, if you are putting up more than 30 points in any game, as an offense, you have done your job.

sure mistakes get made, but at the end of the day the defense needs to not let the other team get 40 points on the board in a case like this. its a small ask

Russ Cooked

Dart to Start

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports QB Jaxson Dart will start in Week 4 against the Chargers.
Russell Wilson may have sealed his fate with a fourth quarter throwaway on fourth down on the red zone as the Giants tried to mount a comeback against the Chiefs. Wilson completed just 56 percent of his throws against KC for 160 scoreless yards and two picks. Dart instantly becomes fantasy viable in superflex formats and even some deeper one-QB leagues thanks to his rushing and aggressive play style. Dart completed 32 of 46 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions over three preseason affairs. His adjusted completion rate was 78 percent, according to Pro Football Focus. The rookie should provide a boost for Malik Nabers — who leads the NFL in air yards — and Wan’Dale Robinson.

Was a bizarre signing to begin with.

Can see Giants cutting ties entirely.

So, random thought:

With the Giants naming Dart the starter, they have Jameis Winston, and he signed a 2 year deal. Wilson signed a 1 year deal, and its not expensive to get rid of him, I wonder if Wilson could be on the move, and that could have also played into (not as a needle mover, but just as an "ok there's this too") going with Dart. I think something like a 6th or 7th rounder could be enough.

Just thinking off the top of my head, I could see teams interested:

Cincinnati-Sunday's game was pathetic, and fair or not, a lot of that falls on Browning. Wilson is cheap, so Mike Brown might be fine with it, as opposed to someone like Cousins. Maybe I'm misreading the room, but I think Zac Taylor is absolutely on the hot seat, and Bengals are 2-1.

Miami-Can't help but feel like we are seeing a divorce happening between Tua and McDaniel sooner than later, and I get the impression that ownership might prefer McDaniel. Say what you want about Russ, but he at least can throw deep. Just as likely Miami may be sellers though too.

San Francisco-probably a long shot, but Mac Jones injured his knee, and Purdy is still banged up. I highly doubt they seriously want to get stuck going with Adrian Martinez at any point, especially as a 3-0 team, in a division where 2-1 is in last place.

Las Vegas-Geno is taking a lot of hits, and I don't think they are really developing Pickett or O'Connell as a future starter. If he's willing to be a #2, I could see re-uniting with Carroll.

LA Chargers-Again, if he's willing to be a backup, a 3-0 team with a below average QB behind Herbert. Harbaugh always liked him.

Atlanta-Strictly as a Cousins replacement should he be dealt. Of course, the way Penix played against Carolina, Cousins might get the job back, or they feel the need to deal Cousins more, to stop the calls for Cousins to take over.

Indianapolis-3-0 start, and I think they have seen enough from Jones to know its his job going forward, but I think they'd be terrified to go back to Richardson if something happened to Jones, and perhaps getting Wilson gives them a better backup, and allows them to deal Richardson, and maybe get a pick upgrade in the process.

I have thought for a bit now that Jamies would be the perfect backup to Dart. They seem to have a solid connection and while Jamies has hurt his career because of an inability to avoid turnovers, he appears to be a great locker room guy and can be a important resource for Dart as he acclimates. Wilson is a borderline HOF/SB winning QB who has really never been a backup, so on that front, Jamies would be a better option.

With respect to other options for Wilson...I don't see a ton of teams thinking he can help. I certainly no scout, but he looks done. His success came from his athleticism and being able to create big plays out of structure, which when he was at his peak...required defense to temper their aggressiveness. But that's gone. His DAL game was as much about DAL if not more...but any team that has a semblance of defensive capability is going to eat and you could simply tell, the rest of the NYG O didn't believe in him.

I really don't see the Chargers as a candidate at all. If he hits the street, I would be quite surprised if they even talked to his agent. I think they would prefer to stick with Lance at this point.

At this point I would think Cincy most likely by a decent margin and not sure how likely that is. Maybe they get another look at Browning the next week or two and if continues to play like he did last week they would make a move.

I think they should just ride it out with Browning. With the oline and defense CIN has there, I would hang onto my draft capital. Although they are 2-1, the wheels to their bus this year are attached by Elmers glue.

Maybe, I think draft capital would be pretty light. If gives them a better chance to get to the playoffs and then can get Burrow back seems like would make sense. But again think they see how Browning looks over the next couple games before considering a move.

You certainly do not want to throw in the towel this early at 2-1, but an awful oline and defense will make it extremely difficult to get to the postseason. I don’t see how Russell really elevates this squad. However, Browning has a tall order with DEN/DET/GB on deck. They are in a tough spot for sure.

With those defenses coming up Browning will be out for the year very soon.

Hopefully it is now clear how non-sensical those opinions were from people who claimed Sean Payton "sabotaged" Russell Wilson or "never gave him a chance" while he was in Denver.

Did Sean Payton Really 'Sabotage' Russell Wilson?

There is no question in my mind that Payton did not adjust his offense to fit Wilson's strengths. Payton is smart enough to do so, but IMO he did not want Wilson, which led him not to try to accommodate him. I'm not saying Payton tried to sabotage him, but IMO he did not try to adapt to him, either. I realize some will disagree.

NFL on CBS
"The thing that has been lacking with Russell is, guys that have played with him don't necessarily feel like it's real. Sometimes they feel like he has formulated a personality to play quarterback."

@Ky1eLong on the Giants benching Russell Wilson for Jaxson Dart.

His personality has been the same day in, day out for his entire career, and this is his 14th NFL season. Every interview, every public appearance, etc. Maybe he created his personality, but it is his actual personality.
