QB Sam Darnold, SEA (3 Viewers)

I thought they changed to criteria for Comeback Player of the Year? Something about the player needing to be injured the year before...

Edit: “The spirit of the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award is to honor a player who has demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity by overcoming illness, physical injury or other circumstances that led him to miss playing time the previous season.”

The #Vikings made clear to Sam Darnold that signing Daniel Jones doesn’t bear on his future in Minnesota. But if Darnold keeps playing like this, it might be tough to afford him come March.

We go inside the locker room on @NFLGameDay @nflnetwork:

Being on the Jets and Panthers is kinda like an illness, right? :ROFLMAO:

It's definitely adversity and other circumstances

Despite the success he had had replacing Kirk Cousins, whom he is facing off against today, Sam Darnold and the Vikings have not had any discussions regarding a long-term contract, per sources. Darnold is scheduled to be a free agent after this season.

Jordan Reid
Major reason why the Vikings were aggressive with signing Daniel Jones, who could be an option as a backup to McCarthy in 2025.

Darnold will get a nice deal elsewhere because the supply won’t meet the demand for QB needy teams this offseason. MIN could get a 2026 comp pick too.

don't really see Vikes trading McCarthy although suppose anything is possible. Darnold would be top free agent QB by a good margin so don't see how Vikes could pay him anywhere close to what he'll get on the open market to be a bridge QB/backup role.

GEQBUS BEAT CRITICAL GASE THEORY, THE LIBRHULE MEDIA, THE DEEP LEAGUE TO LEAD MEGASOTA TO 12-2 WITH KOC. KOOKY KIRK IS NOW WASHED IN ATLANTA. SAD!
Darnold (in the role of a Jesus-like savior) survived playing for Adam Gase, Matt Rhule, and the 49ers to then have a successful season with the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell.

Former Vikings QB Kirk Cousins no longer has the skills necessary to succeed with the Falcons. Which is a shame.

Yeah I was doing a Reddit thing here with Darnold, Reddit made a meme out of Darnold I think back in 2016, and it's fun, but now really has a purpose lol. He's playing great. No question. MIN is 13=2 because Sam Darnold is quarterback. People still can't let that sink in.

This has a real “oh stewardess, I speak jive” vibe to it.

Decision on what to do next year is getting more difficult, 14-2 is not too shabby.
I’m just happy I bought on Darnold in 2x 16 team SF leagues. Looks like I got a bargain. He’s gonna ball wherever he goes.

IMO Vikings will keep the rookie. I don’t think it’s a big decision. They have a lot of people to pay & JJM looked good in the preseason.

yeah maybe you're right was definitely leaning that way as well but what if Minny wins the Super Bowl and Darnold plays well throughout, or loses a competitive Super Bowl, might get a little interesting...

I remember 2 years ago when Darnold was with Carolina and they beat the crap out of the Lions and Darnold looked so sharp. I know it was only one game but he looked the part. Right now he is playing at a high level and going to get a nice payday.

Darnold is only 27 so the Vikings have to tag him at least.

Then they have a ring, lots of goodwill, and Darnold will command a massive contract.

Vikings will have JJM on a rookie deal & be able to bring in even more talent.

Still an entire contract to go before he even enters QB prime age.

Hope he is going to be picky where he goes to avoid another garbage fire organization like New York.

Would the Vikings franchise tag him?

Keeps the contract short.

2 firsts if someone else wants him.

Probably a pretty expensive year… but gives McCarthy another year to learn and get healthy.

Darnold is the textbook example of how important coaching is to the success of a QB.

Jeremy Bates? Adam Gase? Matt Ruhl? You're probably going to fail.

Andy Reid? Kevin O'Connell? Kyle Shanahan? You've got a good chance at success.

Whoever signs Darnold this off-season should have previously hired the Minnesota OC or QB coach to run the offense.

It’s conceivable that the Vikings “Jordan Love” McCarthy for a few more years before his rookie deal ends. It may depend though on how long of a deal Darnold is seeking.

If you’re the @Vikings , why would you move on from Sam Darnold when he’s just scratching the surface on his potential as a QB1 in your system?

Despite the investment in JJ McCarthy, you shouldn’t let a legit QB walk away unless you know the next one can match or exceed his performance and production..

This could be like Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen. A good problem for the Vikings to have.

My question is this: What on earth were the Jets doing not taking Bo Nix or JJ McCarthy? No matter, I know what they were doing. Checking Madden ratings.
They were thinking they had Rodgers and couldn't afford another potential Zach Wilson debacle.

IOW - They were Jets-ing.
Im sure there was some kind of deal with Rodgers not to draft a QB last year - regardless even if they did the past coaching regime would not have developed anyone

I know KOC is a QB whisperer but I just cant see trading out a young QB who has proven to run the system well vs a complete unknown rookie. Take the win and deal the rookie to highest bidder. As hes an unknown quantity they still should be able to recoup at least a 2d rder for him. If im the Jets I would consider that....
