QB Spencer Rattler, NO (1 Viewer)

46 pass attempts in a relatively close game? Wowza, could be a good sign going forward just based on that volume. Also should have had a potential game tying touchdown but Juwan Johnson dropped it, albeit would have been tougher catch but it was an impressive NFL level throw inbetween defenders.

Anyone watch more closely?

Is anybody else watching this game today? Rattler is playing winning football. Receivers have had some awful drops. I am somewhat impressed.

Spencer Rattler completed 25-of-34 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the Saints’ 26-21, Week 2 loss to the 49ers.

Rattler added four rushes for 14 yards.
He also took three sacks for 21 yards. It was not only the first three-touchdown start of Rattler’s career, but the first two-touchdown effort, as well. He made enough plays to give the Saints a chance to win at the end, but his 6.1 yards per attempt tell the story of an unexplosive quarterback. Rattler has looked slightly better than expected through two weeks on the job, but not enough to suggest this is going to be a positive season in New Orleans, or that second-round rookie Tyler Shough won’t eventually make starts. Rattler has a daunting Week 3 road test in the Seahawks.

Spencer Rattler is slowly playing himself into fantasy football consideration. He's been bad for Olave so far but you can't ignore his last 2 weeks.

I have been trying to trade him in two dynasty leagues for weeks now with no takers. We shall see if I get any offers this week. Maybe I'll just hold him.

I've seen nothing to suggest he shouldn't start all season. Also, 49ers are good. Sure, Purdy and Kittle were out, but Bosa and Warner weren't.

Yeah, that 9ers defense is legit. Solid showing for Rattler. You won't be able to trade him due to the presence of Shough (the future). Just gotta ride it out.

Definitely the best game he has played in the NFL, but he is still winless
:sadbanana:
That's assuredly hardly all on him, but when wins and losses are all that matters and there are no wins, QBs get replaced unless they have a big time pedigree. So there's certainly a risk there about Rattler staying as the starter.

Are we confident that Shough is definitely the future? I know he was a 2nd round pick, but wasn't exactly dominant in college.
I'M not confident in Shough. I just think that is the overall consensus as to what others think when trying to trade away Rattler. You're not gonna get anything in return since people are waiting on Shough to take his place any moment. New coaches and their shiny new toys and all. I can see them benching Rattler if they continue to lose, regardless of Rattlers personal performance, so they can see what Shough is.

As mentioned previously, he has been impressive. It will be a huge test against a very talented secondary this week in SEA. I hope the staff gives him some leeway as he is still a young player as he has a lot of talent and has seemed to have locked in. Could be one of the better cheap lotto tickets in dynasty (especially SF) of this year and going forward.

Rattler is trying not to get benched instead of playing to win games. All those attempts and barely over 200 yards every game. It's not like he doesn't have some quality skill players to work with, either.

They need to see what Shough can do.

Value check in aisle 4

Superflex, what’s he worth? I have Caleb, Bryce and nix, plus Flacco and rattler. I’m willing to trade the last two. A team with burrow and browning has asked about ratler. I think a 2026 2 could be fair but is it?

A 2nd rounder for Rattler? Sounds good to me. Shough is the future. The Saints were lucky to win that game, they were on the verge of losing the lead again before the scoop & score.

What is Rattler? On the surface, he is completing a high percentage of passes without turning the ball over. He has the arm to make plays, but outside of the shot to Rashid last week he appears to be playing not to lose. Is it him or the playcalling? They are going nowhere this year, why are they not taking more shots with the speed they have at wr?

What makes you confident that Shough is going to be any good? Personally, I have my doubts. I would think the team would want to see what they had in him very soon if they think that he could be. Otherwise, I’d imagine they’re taking a QB early next year.

Maybe just trying to keep the game simple for Rattler and avoid turnovers. IIRC, Moore tends to be an aggressive play caller, so maybe they start to open things up a bit more.

Hard to ignore how he continues to improve as he gets experience. He has not been perfect, but not sure there are too many players that would look great running this offense. He has been let down nearly every game by poor pass blocking, drops, and penalties. He also has the pressure of a 2nd round pick staring over his shoulder. If his trajectory continues, the Saints will be left to make a tough decision in next years draft. I know it is easy to say take a QB, but I don’t think he is too far off from making them think hard about it.

The Saints aren't in a cap position to take yet another QB. Last I saw, their dead cap hit for 2025 was something like 90mil. It's hard to field a competitive team like that. IMO, they need to suck it up, roll with either Rattler or Shough for the next several years, stockpile talent under rookie contracts and get themselves out of the cap hell that they've put themselves in. Might be time to go back to the grocery bags on the fan's heads for a few years.

Surprisingly, they have been competitive in most games this year. It would slow down any growth Rattler is having, but they should probably be active at the trade deadline and start loading picks. Kamara, Olave, and/or Rasheed may be considered as they probably shouldn’t be extending the receivers and Kamara is nearing the end of his value in the trade market.

100%. Will they do it? Doubtful. MIckey Loomis is the guy who got them into this mess during the Drew Brees days.

What's sad is that I could legitimately see Rattler being a franchise guy on a well managed team.

Dream is dead. He's too small and the OL is no buenos.
Was he actually that bad? Felt like the team needed a spark?

I like Rattler... For the right coach and team, I think he could be an intriguing NFL QB. He is better than Shough right now, but that's not saying much. OL was trash for both of them. This team is going nowhere and at this point should give Shough a run to see if he can spark them. I doubt he will, but at 1-7 they naturally shift to evaluation mode IMO.

Too bad. Thought Rattler looked like a player. Can’t turn it over in this league though and keep your job unless you’re the #1 overall. Hope he catches on elsewhere.

If he was better looking he would still be the starter. jk…. I remember when he was going to be a superstar after his first year at Oklahoma. Then when they got Caleb Williams everything went to :poop: for him, with a small resurgence later at South Carolina. Nothing to get excited about however.
