QB Tom Brady, Retired (1 Viewer)

I'm sure the family tug started to get to him.  His kids are at the age where they need him around.  What always impressed me most about Brady was what a genuinely good guy he is.  Living in New England I've heard countless interviews over the years, and I don't ever remember him saying something hurtful towards another.  Pretty much the perfect person.

Reich did it in college too for VA Tech vs my Canes in 1984 as I recall, down 31-0 at Halftime and serving as the back up to Stan Gelbaugh, Reich tosses 3 TDs in the 3rd and it's 34-21 when the 4th Q started and 2 weeks later Miami would lose in the "Hail Flutie" game in the Orange Bowl.

It was Maryland, not VT. And Reich was backup to Boomer Esiason, not Gelbaugh. Other than that, you're spot on :lol:

If and when Tom Brady does retire, I imagine he'd release a video eating a massive cheeseburger with juices, ketchup, mayo, whatever else all over his face to announce it.

 
@JetMaxx and @Shawnky - why do you think differently?  I guess deflate gate was a stain on his career.  I was pretty vocal in here that I didn't't like that one bit.  But what I said is true.  Can you name one instance where Brady acted out in anger and insulted someone?  I can't.  By all rights the guy is a loyal husband too.  And I have some contacts in this area lol.  For instance, I know firsthand that Mr. Family Man Jim Kelley cheated on hi wife with a stripper.  I know this because she told me.  The guy has model looks, a model wife, is rich beyond belief, is the greatest football player who ever lived, has a great family, and like I said never seems to have a negative word to say about anyone.  I'd call that as perfect as it gets.  But I'd be interested to hear counter positions.

I don't think the "perfect person" runs up to another coach on the sideline and yells, "Go f yourself," which Brady did this year in the 2nd Saints game.  And Brady is notorious for being a sore loser (see: the many examples of times he left the field without shaking the head of the opposing QB after a game in which his team lost). 

But, let's be serious, there is no such thing as a perfect person.

Because I don't know if this is schtick, as a patriots, belichick and brady fan I will break it down for you:

I guess deflate gate was a stain on his career.  

Deflategate was a stain on the alleged impartiality of the front office and ownership, who demonstrated a willingness to be so petty and vindicative that they were willing to create a kangaroo court to suspend Brady for the equivalent of jaywalking.  Aaron Rodgers admitted that he prefers footballs to be inflated above league "rules" for inflation and suffered no consequence.

Can you name one instance where Brady acted out in anger and insulted someone?  

Brady's hyper-competitiveness has produced multiple instances of lack of good sportsmanship (not shaking Nick Foles' hand after SB loss, talking trash on field to the honey badger, etc.).  The notion of him being devoid of anger and some sort of saint is very silly.

By all rights the guy is a loyal husband too.

Brady should be admired for how he has conducted himself off the field. The other GOATS, take Jordan, was a true POS off the basketball court. Cheated on his wife numerous times, got his dad killed from his gambling problem, just not a humble kind person by TONS of accounts. Brady is like a freaking saint compared to him.

Actually it's Kelly Kapowski. She did briefly date AC Slater in season 1 but it never progressed and she eventually married Zach, not Slater.  But otherwise yeah I completely agree that she's the GOAT

Well, for one, how many times has the guy left the field after a loss without shaking hands with the opposing QB/coach?  I'm not sure if that's him acting out of anger, or simply acting like a pouting child, but I think a lot of guys would consider it insulting.  

I like Brady.  I just think this is one area where he is flawed.  Call it competitive or whatever you want, he should show more class in situations where he doesn't win.  It's easy to be classy when you win all the time.  True class is showing respect when you lose.  That's an area where he could be better, IMO.  

So, yeah, "perfect person" is a bit of a stretch.

Stan Gelbaugh was the starter in the MD-Mia game, thanks for the correction on the school, it was 38 years ago, memory gets a little foggy sometimes. 

Esiason was drafted in the 1984 draft after his 1983 season, he finished 10th in the Heisman voting that season. 

Esiason was already gone when this game was played during the 1984 season, Gelbaugh was the starter for Maryland that season or at least to start the Miami game.

I’ve pointed out a few times where schefter (and others) jumped the gun. I used to get lambasted for being critical of the “first to break the news, regardless of accuracy”, but I think people are starting to understand more that’s the world we live in. 

And if they’re wrong, it never hurts them. It just gets them more attention, which in the world of social media is the goal anyway. 

FWIW, I believe he’s retired. Too much smoke for there it to be fire. But someone clearly jumped the gun, and yeah - seems like Brady is letting them sweat. Which I agree is objectively funny.

I see him as someone who is very "polished" from a media perspective, maybe cut from a similar cloth as Tiger in that respect (before his personal life unraveled of course). With the savvy ones, I think we see what they want us to see and nothing more.

 
After turning 37, Tom Brady  won 4 Super Bowls and was 17-4 in the playoffs. He was 95-30, completed 65.2% of his passes for 35,371 yards, 265 TDs, 69 INTs and 100.2 passer rating in the regular season

And there were doubters every single year including myself. And did he miss more than 1 game after he turned 37? He was even Covid-proof. Super human. He should sell his regimen.

Brady will wait until next week to retire. IIRC he is do $15 mil roster bonus if he is on the team after next week. Why would he retire this week and forfeit the $15 mil?

Technically he was correct, but yes, I couldn't see the Bucs not paying him the $15M regardless.  If I were Brady I wouldn't chance throwing that money away when you could wait a week to make sure.

 
NBC Sports' Peter King said it's "very likely a matter of time before" Tom Brady "officially retires."

Reports of Brady's retirement last weekend proved premature, but just barely, according to King, who's as plugged in as any NFL reporter. King speculated that Brady's decision to step down could be related to the Bucs' lack of a long-term plan, with Chris Godwin and Leonard Fournette perhaps leaving in free agency and no clear answers as to how the team might improve in 2022. It makes sense for a Tampa roster kept together last offseason for one last Super Bowl run. "I don’t know that he feels that way about the Bucs’ ability to stay dominant," King said. Brady retiring would likely mean Rob Gronkowski is done with the Bucs too. Tampa could go from Super Bowl contender to bottom-ten team in 2022.

The give back is 16m but is unrelated to the 2/4 date. The Bucs can ask for that back. The 2/4 date is his signing bonus from last year and that’s getting paid whether he plays, retires or flies to the moon.

Yeah, I suspect the rumor probably is true, but Brady is annoyed that it broke, especially before he got a chance to tell the Bucs, so he is gonna wait it out now.  

Schefter is a real piece of work (in a bad way), so anything that makes him look bad is something I can support. 

 
Brady is upset at the Bucs for a lack of a long term plan? He’s 45. He knew when he signed here that he was the “long term plan.” Doesn’t the NFL stand for “not for long?” 3 years is an eternity. 

The Bucs just mortgaged their future for 2021. If Brady announces he’s coming back there’s no reason they wouldn’t do it again. There are multiple contracts they can restructure to sign guys for 2022.

IMO, this decision has nothing to do with Tampa’s “lack of a long term plan.”

And, yeah, if he decides to retire they’ll be a bottom team again because they’ll lose free agents, take all the dummy year cap hits, and start a 2nd year QB.

So what?
