QB Tua Tagovailoa, MIA (2 Viewers)

This next stretch of games vs some bad teams will determine Tua's future. JAX, ATL, BUF, HOU, BAL, NYJ, CAR, NYG, NYJ.

Tua needs to have several good games to be considered the QB of the future.

Anyone thinking of Tua Time in week 7 with Allen on a bye? For me I see Winston available but could wait to see how Tua plays whether to stay with him or go Winston for one week.

ATL @ MIA      Tua

NO @ SEA       Jameis

I've never really been a big Tua fan....but I am just curious....does this guy really start for some of you in 12 team leagues with only one QB that you have to start....(not counting as just a bye week filler).....always seems like there are better options out there even on most WW's....he just doesn't move the needle for me in FF and don't think I would ever really feel good about starting him no matter the matchup...

Thinking about him as a Wilson replacement right now , who else off waivers is better the next month?

I feel the same way and I didn’t draft him anywhere however in one league with deep benches (and not much in the waiver) I did pick him up in hopes to catch lighting in a bottle (current starter is Tannehill).  He does have a softer schedule up coming and we really haven’t seen much of Tua this year so maybe he will surprise.  I won’t be starting him unless I see something.

I don't know....I guess a lot depends on roster size....but in one of my 12 team 18 roster spots leagues....guys like Darnold, Jones, Heinicke, Winston, Lawrence, Goff, Wentz, Ben, Bridgewater, mac Jones, etc are available....granted many guys in that league only maybe carry one QB.....but if I had to, I would roll the dice on many of those before Tua....in a 12 team league, most teams are going to have a "top 12" guy after the draft.....Tua doesn't feel like even a top 20 guy really to me most any week, so thats why I was asking....doesn't feel like he should even be sniffing top 12 even on most bye weeks.....like next week (7) is the biggest bye week we have....so he may creep up there, but I would probably be snagging somebody else....going into a FF season he is basically on my do not draft list....and I would hate to have to start him.....even on a bye week....just IMO...

I stashed him on IR in a yahoo league to cover Herbert’s week 7 bye to set a reasonable backup plan where I don’t have to drop someone til the very last moment. If he looks decent this week I have no problem rolling him out there against ATL.

Re a mid-term Wilson replacement, it’s a soft schedule and there’s a number of those guys I think he’s a toss-up with in a vacuum. If they let him run a bit and he gets some weapons back it seems like he could put up some decent numbers.

EDIT: if you’re saying Daniel Jones is out there as an alternative, run don’t walk tho

I did the same in two leagues with Josh Allen putting Tua on IR to save space. Well, since then I have 3 IR players now and wondering if Winston isn't the better play in week 7 over Tua. I think I know my answer, but was hoping to watch the game first then either keep him or toss for Winston. The key is will Winston be there? Only two other teams in need next week, and one has Stafford.

yeah and see thats part of it too...week 7 is the heaviest bye week and there will probably be some heavy movement at QB in many leagues....and you may get into a bidding situation and not get the guy/matchup you want next week....now or at least before sunday morning is maybe the time to try and lock down your week 7 starter so you don't have to do the WW bidding/dance next week....if you are currently in the FCFS waiver period right now, you should try to lock it up if you have roster space you can sacrifice...

Dolphins activated QB Tua Tagovailoa (fractured ribs) from injured reserve.

Tagovailoa will return Sunday for the first time since going down in Week 2. The Jaguars, allowing the league's second-highest completion rate, are a great matchup for Tua's comeback, though he'll be without DeVante Parker (hamstring) and Will Fuller (IR), while Preston Williams (core) is listed as questionable. Tagovailoa's return upgrades the Miami offense, but he shouldn't be considered more than a mid-range QB2 for Week 6.

Oct 16, 2021, 9:36 AM ET

Tua Tagovailoa completed 33-of-47 passes for 329 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Miami's Week 6 loss to the Jaguars.

Making his first start since Week 6, Tua wasn't limited by his fractured ribs, firing off a season-high in pass attempts. His 22 rushing yards were also the most he's had this year. Both of Tua's touchdowns went to Jaylen Waddle, who he targeted a team-high 13 times with Preston Williams, DeVante Parker, and Will Fuller all sidelined. Miami's pass offense looked better with Tua this week, but that was to be expected against a bad Jaguars secondary. A matchup with the Falcons in Week 7 is another great spot for Tua, who should get at least one of Williams or Parker back.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports the Texans "are not and never have been a potential destination" for Tua Tagovailoa.

With Deshaun Watson rumors heating up and the Dolphins and Texans in talks around the quarterback, some assume Tagovailoa would go the other way to Houston. That doesn't sound like it's the case. Tagovailoa hasn't put much good football on tape since being taken one pick ahead of Justin Herbert last year at No. 5 overall. The Broncos are also said to have little to no interest in Tagovailoa.

Wondering if there's any truth to the rumors of a 3 way deal sending Tua to Washington.
Please don’t send this guy to DC. This would be another dumb move by the WFT front office. They were actually smart to pass on him the first time, only now to double back and trade for him. FML.

He gets so much hate for a young qb coming of a bad injury and no offseason, and now 2 full games into his second season. Bud, it's not exactly a tradition of great qbs in Washington, I'm sure he could compete with Jay Schroeder, Mark Rypien, Alex Smith, Jeff George, Rex Grossman, Jason Campbell, and Gus Frerotte.

So because DC had had a litany of bad QBs they should trade for potentially another one? Makes sense bud.

”coming off an injury” and “2 full games into 2nd season” when 6 games have been played this season are concerns. Another is the fact that he’s looked generally mediocre when he has been healthy enough to be out there. And lack of offseason didn’t seem to effect another rookie in Herbert last year. Bottom line is he is not going to be worth what Miami and/or Houston is seeking back in return for him. If it’s a Josh Rosen type package, maybe. But the compensation will likely be much higher.

Is there a team out there that would pay more than a 3rd or 4th for Tua right now? Name an NFL team that would do it? Not many if any I'm thinking.

WFT might bite, but again, they are totally incompetent so I wouldn’t judge that as a wise move.

Recently drafted QBs are like new cars. The minute you drive them off the lot (or in this case, put them in game action and they disappoint) they lose a huge percentage of their value. See Rosen, Josh.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said Tua Tagovailoa "is our quarterback" following rumors that Miami would trade Tagovailoa.

Flores added that the team is "happy" with its quarterback situation. While that might be a stretch for the fledging Dolphins, Flores was sure to dismiss Tua trade rumors that once again swirled this week. Flores during his Friday presser offered tepid praise of his QB, who he described as "developing." "I think he definitely has the opportunity to be a very good player," Flores said. Tua is 26th in Pro Football Focus' adjusted completion rate (74 percent) and 23rd in yards per pass attempt (7). Twenty-ninth in fantasy points per game this season, Tua is nothing more than a streaming option in 12-team leagues this week against Atlanta.

After losing Russell Wilson to injury and missing out on Tannehill and Carr on the waiver wire, I am left with Tua as my starting QB in a 12 team league and I am cautiously optimistic....... this week.

With Herbert on bye, it's either Tua or JimmyG... I am rolling with Tua.

So much turmoil in Miami, so many rumors. Sure hope Tua can play like he did last week (besides the UGLY af INT), not sure I see it happening 2 weeks in a row even against ATL defense.

I benched Tua for Darnold (12 team 2qb league). Rankings this week were basically dead even between the two.

I predict they are going back to the script of lots of dump offs to Gaskin/Ahmed and ~5 yard outs. Hope I am wrong.

Rooting for this kid way more than I ever did Tannehill when Mia drafted him.

Why would Flores say this in week 7 instead of earlier? Shopping Tua?

Who knows I guess, but it is slightly conspicuous after all this Watson talk (which could just be a bunch of clickbait /shrug).

Tua Tagovailoa completed 32-of-40 passes for 291 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in the Dolphins' 30-28, Week 7 loss to the Falcons, adding four rushes for 29 additional yards.

With the four-score performance, Tagovailoa more than doubled his season touchdown total, though he literally doubled his interception total. Pick No. 1 was an awful end zone giveaway where Durham Smythe had no window to make the catch in traffic. No. 2 was even more unforgivable. Instead of just accepting a fourth quarter sack, Tagovailoa forced the ball up as he was going down and LB Foysade Oluokun nearly returned it for a touchdown. When he wasn't giving the ball away, Tagovailoa did just fine dinking and dunking it, but big plays were in short supply. Only one of Tagovailoa's completions went for more than 20 yards, and it was a 27-yarder to Mike Gesicki. Deshaun Watson trade rumors will continue to swirl. The Dolphins visit the Bills next Sunday, which is two days before the trade deadline.

Appreciative of a clutch one-week stream in place of Allen.   Sounds like the picks were brutal.

Still, I have to think the London effort and go-ahead TD drive puts him ahead of Hurts and Darnold in the "who wants to be a starting NFL QB?" power rankings.   Of course this also probably makes him the more desirable throw-in if you're the Texans.

B/R Gridiron@brgridiron

Tua’s last two weeks:

  • — 6 TD (3 INT)
  • — 620 yards
  • — 74.7 completion %
  • — Two go-ahead 4Q TD drives
  • — 4th-best
@PFF QB grade

Versus JAX and ATL.  That's like exhibition games. If he keeps it up versus the Bills this week and the Ravens in a couple of weeks then I'll be impressed.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Stats: Chargers' run D holding Justin Herbert back?

Excerpt:

Tua Tagovailoa ranks second in on-target percentage

It’s a small sample but so far this season, Tua Tagovailoa has been far from the disaster many want to paint him to be:

Pro Football Reference @pfref

Best On Target Rate:

1. Kyler Murray - 84.9%

2. Tua Tagovailoa - 83.6%

3. Russell Wilson - 83.2%

4. Joe Burrow - 82.0%

In just his second season, Tua reminds me of prime Andy Dalton. As he works his way back from a devastating injury that we simply don’t talk about enough, Tua looks like a capable player you can win with — even if he’s not the reasonyou win. The problem for Miami is that, unlike those solid Bengals years with Dalton, they’ve failed in building a team around the quarterback. Thanks to injuries, the pass-catching corps is a net negative around Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki. The offensive line is the biggest whiff in this rebuilding era and they can’t run the ball. The defense doesn’t move the needle.

Tua can offer you starting-level quarterback play in the right infrastructure. Anyone playing him in fantasy right now knows that. As he gets farther away from his hip injury, maybe there’s a greater ceiling. For now, the Dolphins have much bigger problems.

Basically what I’m saying here: It would seem pretty ridiculous for a deeply flawed team to bail on a quarterback that’s showing some degree of promise in favor of chasing a legally compromised player who requires them to mortgage what’s left of their future.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores again voiced his support for Tua Tagovailoa.

Asked about why he has not publicly ruled out a move for a starting quarterback, Flores suggested he already has. “I think when I say Tua is the quarterback, I’m not sure what more I can say," Flores said. Tagovailoa had a rough outing against a tough Bills defense on Sunday, but he put together a couple of solid games before that. While it looks like Tagovailoa will be the starter the rest of the season, these kinds of questions will continue into the spring unless the young quarterback closes the season strong.

TUA TAGOVAILOA QB, MIAMI DOLPHINS

Dolphins GM Chris Grier said trade talks about Deshaun Watson were more about Watson being available than the team being dissatisfied with Tua Tagovailoa.

Bold to try the, "It's not you. It's me," approach, but it makes sense for Grier to do some damage control after the Dolphins publicly went after Watson ahead of the deadline, and the GM added the team believes in Tua and are happy with his development. That said, Grier passed up an opportunity to say the team would not pursue Watson during the offseason, instead saying, "We'll revisit the entire roster." It sounds like the Miami quarterback saga will be one of the stories of the offseason.

Tua Tagovailoa (ribs/finger) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Tua has been listed with the rib injury for a few weeks despite his last absence due to the issue coming in Week 5. The finger injury, however, is new. The injury is in his left hand and he's a lefty so it certainly deserves monitoring. If the issue forces Tua to miss more time, Jacoby Brissett would step in as the starter. The Dolphins averaged 20.7 points in Brissett's three starts earlier this year. All Miami fantasy options would get a slight downgrade if he is under center versus Houston but the easy matchup should keep everyone afloat. Brissett would rank as a low-end QB2.

Nov 3, 2021, 4:27 PM ET

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Tua Tagovailoa (finger) is expected to miss Week 9 against the Texans.

Schefter added that Tua has a "small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand." The injury hasn't recovered enough to allow him to play this week. Schefter noted that the injury isn't a long-term issue. Jacoby Brissett will start in his place. Brissett averaged 230 passing yards per game in three starts earlier this year and managed to throw at just 5.8 yards per attempt. Tua's absence is a downgrade for the entire offense but Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki remain in the WR3 and TE1 conversations based on the volume they project to see.

Fins season is over. They have no real reason to push him to play when he's not 100%.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Tua Tagovailoa (finger) is a game-time decision for Week 10 against the Ravens.

"If the game were oddly moved to tonight, [Jacoby] Brissett would start," Flores said on Tuesday. "It's a medical decision, team decision. I have a lot of say in that." Tua missed Week 9 due to his fractured finger but was encouragingly able to suit up as the team's emergency option. He's a fringe QB1 in an uptempo affair opposite Baltimore's injury-riddled defense if active Thursday night.
