Yeah I had no intention what so ever of taking a QB but seemed like a QB takin in the top 40 picks of the draft has a chance to start and be a quality player even if he’s not a prospect I have much faith in. I don’t like Matthew Golden much either but late round 1 he seemed like worth the gamble. But I’m very unsure about either pick.

I had Shough as a hard target as long as the value was there (and it was). Pretty nice situation with the Saints and the dude can spin the rock. Good athlete with surprising speed. I don’t care about his age.
Shough is likely going to have a long leash with Moore. He could easily end up being the best FF QB in this class.

Although he is my target at 2.12 in a SF.

The concern about the age for me isn’t longevity of career, it’s the fact that he will be 25 this year. Jalen Hurts was 25 last year and won the SB. Imagine what this version of Hurts would have been doing in college right now. Also the 3 season ending injuries worry me quite a bit both mentally and physically. But the player taken after I took Shough was a guy named Chimere Dike. I don’t have any idea who that is and he sounds made up. I’ll take my shot with the guy 40th pick in the draft over Chimere Dike.

Yeah, the injuries worry me more than his age. It's a completely different dynamic than a RB's age, for instance. Your point about Hurts is valid, although, Shough has very good arm talent and is no slouch as an athlete. It's reasonable to assume he had a mental advantage over his peers in college due to age/experience, but the traits are NFL caliber.
I think you could make a case for Shough in the late 2nd round of rookie drafts, but as you mentioned, he's been falling far enough where the value really sticks out.

Shough to the moon with the Carr retirement. He's 6'5"/225, throws darts all over the field, runs a 4.6, makes great throws on the move (even going left), and is good at not taking sacks...what's the problem?
I understand the theory behind Shough having a mental advantage over his peers in college due to his age, but you don't get better while you're rehabbing injuries. If he didn't have the injuries and came out a couple years ago, everybody would be on him.
Shough is the same guy, albeit, a couple years older. If you're going to come out a couple years older than what is typical, QB is the position to do it. Falling to the late 3rd in a SF is ridiculous.

What am I missing here? Kid lost a lot of time due to injury so he enters the NFL a lot older. Knock him for injury concerns if you want, but discounting for age too is double dipping. He was borderline QB2 prior to the draft but now he’s got a pretty ideal spot to win the job and not let go. Late 2/early 3 in superflex doesn’t seem right. Getting some Carson Palmer vibes.

It's all relative. He was QB2 in a very weak QB class. QB2 last year was the 1.02 Jayden Daniels. Obviously there is no comparing Shough and Daniels. The year before QB2 went 1.02 as well (Stroud).
QBs that the NFL considers starting quality players obviously go early. Almost always 1st round. Once you get past that, the track record isn't very good. You do get some late project QBs who shock everyone like Purdy and Dak. However, these guys who were highly scouted, very much on the radar but not coveted enough for a team to spend a 1st on tend to disappoint. Hurts is the only recent guy I can recall who proved to be a high quality QB. The other names are Ridder, Hooker, Willis, Levis, Trask, Mond, Lock, Rudolph. I think chances are that's the kind of player we are looking at in Shough.

If you go back a little further you have Carr, JG, Dalton, Geno (took awhile, but you might just blame the Jets for that) as some hits in that range. But you primarily get backups. Even Levis offered a nice window for selling at higher value (and I think Levis is a pretty similar prospect).
The path to at least having a Levis type of sell window is that he shows flashes and NO doesn't get a top 3 pick. Maybe not super exciting as a ceiling. but still a swing I'll take in late 2 early 3rd ring of a sf rookie draft.

Yeah though you go too far back and nfl front office mentality and philosophies can change a bit making comps tougher. Also I do believe Shough is worth a shot at the right point in drafts because he’s going to get a good opportunity. That matters a lot.
