QB Dillon Gabriel, CLE (9 Viewers)

I don't believe in Dillon Gabriel for redraft purposes and don't think this 3rd round Rookie QB is ready to go out there and lead the offense on Sunday
I have skill players like Judkins and both Tight Ends spread across several leagues, I just don't see Gabriel being ready and I think we might see something lie the Bengals over the last 2 games

I hope I'm wrong...but I doubt this kid is ready
You're telling me that 31 teams passed on this kid twice but the Browns knew he was a steal in the 3rd?
I can no longer give the Browns the benefit of the doubt and there are other teams that also fit into this box

I have no skin in the game from the fantasy football perspective.

I don’t know if Gabriel is the answer for the Browns but I know Flacco is not.

Why not put the kid in to see what you have to help with the Browns 2026 draft?
I hear you Max, let me share some facts that are indisputable
Gabriel is a 24 yr old rookie QB...Fact
Gabriel played for 3 different colleges running from programs where he could not beat out other superior QBs so he darts thru the portal to another school, UCF, OK and Oregon, Fact
Gabriel stands tall at 5 foot 10, they say he's 5-11 but look when he stands around tho other players, he might be 5-9.5
Gabriel is under 6 feet tall and playing Quarterback in the NFL, Fact
Gabriel weighs in at about 200, that's pretty small to play Quarterback. By any measurements Gabriel would be one of the smallest Quarterbacks starting an NFL game this Sunday, Fact

I wish him the best of luck this weekend but we could see Sanders as early as this weekend

lol....this is silly.

I'll ignore the fact that you made the same point twice. He left UCF for a much better and bigger opportunity. Nobody runs from a Mickey Mouse college to a real football powerhouse to start as their QB. That's not how these things work.

2nd year at OU, he completes 70% of his passes for 3,660 yards 30 TDs and added12 TDs on the ground. He transferred out because OU's OC left and his draft grades weren't there. He didn't want to chance it with a defensive minded coach and Oregon just put a transfer QB into the NFL first round. Oh, and the superior QB he couldn't beat out? Benched before September ended and transferred out. I'm assuming you're doing bits here.

He's starting for Cleveland because he's not only better than Sanders, he's got mobility and with a leaky line, the Browns have to turn to a mobile QB who is accurate and experienced. A QB that beat some of the best teams in college. Sanders shrank in the biggest games. And to the extent he does try to run, he runs backwards which, while entertaining in college, is a recipe for disaster in the NFL.
Thanks GM
You start with an adjective to discredit the facts/post that were listed, straight out of the GM playbook.
Why is it silly to question DG's abilities to play the QB position in the NFL?
Your post is emotional and filled with happy thoughts but I don't see many facts and none of that rosy fluff you posted changes a single word that I wrote
Dillon Gabriel doesn't suddenly walk on the field 6 foot 3 after your post does he? He's still 5-10 and you know why? Because it's a F-A-C-T!

That's why I took the time to get his measurements in print, NFL QBs for the most part that experience success these days are built like Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and I'm still not sure which if any of those 4 would have had success in Cleveland so add it all up and Gabriel is not only diminutive but has an uphill climb just wearing a Browns expansion uniform

"He's starting for Cleveland because he's not only better than Sanders, he's got mobility and with a leaky line"...Opinion not a fact

Got it. It's a bit. Thanks for confirming.

Does anyone have a report from any of the local beat writers in Cleveland about the Showcase that Gabriel must be displaying in practice on a daily basis?

I would assume assume Gabriel just blows Flacco away and demands the football be placed in his throwing hand, the Vets must be rallying behind him

Gabriel is a small size QB that also is left handed, we hadn't gotten to tha Fact yet either

Got it. He's short.

So a 2x NFL coach of the year knows less about his team's best chances of winning than a guy who begs for attention on a magic football message board.

That was harsh

But think of it this way. Flacco plays out the rest of the season, Browns go to the 2026 draft and don’t have as good of a feel as they should about drafting a QB.

Do I think Gabriel or Shadeur are going to good? No. But there’s a chance.
The way the first 4 games went, Flacco was never going to play the full season. Gabriel's time was coming and if he doesn't show a spark then Sanders will be next. The problem with all this is timing, it's crazy stupid this is the situation Gabriel is being thrust into.
So what’s the better option?
Keep playing Flacco until you have tackles that aren't turnstiles. If that tackle problem persists then pull the rip cord when you play against teams with weaker pass rushes in 2 weeks. There is no way for me to nicely mention others not talking about the tackle problem - it's grossly negligent. Cornelius Lucas has given up 28 pressures in 4 games. That is the most in the NFL. By 10. And KT Leveston and Dawand Jones have combined for 16 themselves. Putting a 3rd round rookie in that situation against these defenses in these spots is malfeasance. Get Cam Robinson acclimated and Jack Conlin healthy - then play the kid. Not now.

Hope I'm wrong...

Oh no!

It’s odd to me that people are getting all worked up over two guys who won’t help anyone for fantasy this year and will be replaced by a top 5 draft pick next year.
I'm not so sure about that right now and it's not due to what I think about Gabriel.

Hey you don’t know that man!

You are most likely right, but maybe we’ll see some Flutie magic. He knows how to win, and seems like he’s got a lot of confidence. Maybe he’ll become a champion for the vertically challenged.

Stefanski raved about his study habits and intellect and consequently how he learns. He seemed honest to say some he takes a long time but learns others very quickly.

Fans seemed to grab onto either the positive or negative part of his learning as if it wasn't the same sentence.

We generally eat our words from a guy like Ward who starts day one and we say just learn there will be growing pains- but for a sub rookie QB people seem to have more expectations

Daniel Oyefusi
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski on new starting QB Dillon Gabriel: “From the second he’s been here, he’s been working very hard. He’s a very intelligent young man. He’s done a nice job throughout practice and this whole season he’s been learning how to get yourself ready and understand the rhythm of an NFL week and what that looks like as a backup. Obviously now feel like he’s ready to go as a starter.”

Browns WR Jerry Jeudy called Dillon Gabriel a “smart dude” and said he knows where to go with the ball. Said Gabriel also knows how the coaching staff wants him to operate within the offense.

Stefanski sounds more like he’s describing a dude he wants his daughter to date.

Browns offense will have a much quicker pace under Dillon Gabriel. He is an accurate thrower with an above average arm. And he processes the field quickly. People may be surprised.
I was not a big fan of Gabriel when he came out, but I do think he is a good fit in this offense. With 12 personnel he will have multiple outlets and can get the ball out quickly. If they are able to keep the run game on schedule and throw in some deep shots to Bond to keep defenses honest, they could be greatly improved on that side of the ball. His mobility will also be refreshing after seeing Flacco struggle to buy extra time.

I actually think that's due to Gabriel's limitations. What I saw in preseason was a guy who could make the quick reads and get it out quickly to the middle of the field. But once the defense figures that out and starts to clog the middle, he's going to have problems. I think him throwing the longer outs is going to be bad news.

I drafted him in dynasty, so I hope he does well. But that's just what I saw and my prediction.

I assumed we were just having fun and you acknowledge my reservations about him. I am not rooting against him in any way, I wish him success vs the Vikes
I just can't believe we are at this point in the season already

Cheers!

I think if I were say, starting the Vikings defense this week, I'd rather they were starting Flacco than Gabriel. We know Flacco would be a sitting duck back there this week.

Tough first start for Gabriel, but I agree that he has a better shot than Flacco.
