Quinn wants to play for Browns (1 Viewer)

In the press box before the game, a source well-connected to the Notre Dame football program said Irish quarterback Brady Quinn hopes to play for the Browns. The source said Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has informed Crennel of Quinn's feelings.
Assuming that happens, Winslow and Edwards have to take a rather serious short term hit production-wise. I'm guessing Winslow's hit would be less severe given that rookie QBs tend to overly rely on TEs. I didn't watch enough CLE games to know whether or not QB is their main issue. What's the OL play looking like? Are they serviceable there?

Edit to say that a pick like that might cost Crennel his job. If they manage to get Quinn and don't get a servicable QB to start right now, I would think that Crennel won't be around long enough to get any benefit from Quinn. Next season looks to be Crennel's third on the job, right?

Browns lost something like 3 OL in the pre-season.

But most FF owners look past that and headhunt the QB and RB positions.

Is this true, or at least the common conception? Do rookie QBs typically more heavily rely upon their TEs? I have never heard that one and found it intersting.Sorry for the hijack. It losely relates to the topic.

I personally think that if CLE's o-line is healthier next year, Quinn could be a decent fit there.

I am sure Troy Smith does too. They can probably trade down 10-12 picks to get him and another top pick.

Great news for Buc's fans. The Quinn hype needs to be in over drive in order for Calvin Johnson to slip to us. Wouldn't mind Joe Thomas either.

The media and talking heads in the Cleveland area are all saying that the "Charlie Frye experiment is over" and Crennel better turn things around in 07 or he's probably gone (a lot of people want him gone already).

I've been saying it since they came back in 99 and I continue to say it...the Browns need help on the O line. There are rumors up here that say LeCharles Bentley has had complications (staff, etc) with his recovery from surgery and he might miss part or all of the 2007 season as well. Fraley and Andruzzi aren't exactly spring chickens anymore and the depth across the line is virtually non-existant.

I think this rumor can be put to bed though because I don't see how the Raiders can pass on Quinn at the top spot and if they do, would the Lions take him and let him study under Kitna for a year (see Palmer, Carson)? Either way, I can't imagine that he'd be there at 3 and I hope this doesn't gather too much steam and pressure management into doing something stupid if he slips to them at the 3 slot.

They won't trade down to get Smith in the first. If he's still there early in the second round they may "have" to take him though (home town kid, Heisman winner, etc).

This is proof that there needs to be drug testing in college football.
He's probably saying that because Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis are the closest cities to his and his womans home town, and the other 3 don't need a qb.

Based on my uneducated football watching, it seems to be the case with young QBs. TEs typically run shallow or quick developing routes, which inexperienced QBs will look for because the longer routes and the fast rush tend to make the game appear much faster. We always hear about QBs waiting for the game to "slow down" which to me means that they are able to read defenses quicker and deal with the rush by moving around a bit. Young QBs haven't mastered this, so they compensate by either throwing into coverage or trying to throw to underneath routes or stuff out in the flats. TEs are also typically much larger targets and can compensate for poor throws with body size (although larger WRs can do this as well).Of course, I could be insane.

I know you are not suggesting that he should prefer to play in Oakland or Detroit?
