Damn... it makes me really happy to read that post, tri-man. (not about the achilles though- sorry to hear it's still not there).I got so hooked into the 1/2s (my ideal distance due to the proportion of swim to bike/run) and the longer time required, that I started dreading NYC as soon as I signed up. But it's an olympic and you are totally right- 90mins on the bike- 60mins running, 45mins swimming... all very managable training sessions for a guy like me these days. That really just made my day...tri-man 47 said:While no races are planned, I am already looking forward to next season, which will start with shorter distances. Targeting the Olympic distance triathlon feels right, for now. I took today off work and got in two workouts - a 40 minute swim this morning and a 90 minute bike ride this afternoon. It feels good, knowing that these these times already exceed the race times for an Olympic tri. Itching to run again, too, but the Achilles still says 'not yet.'![]()
And the beauty of NYC is that they time it so that you are swimming with an ebb-tide down the Hudson. I did it in 24 mins last time- a good 10+mins faster than in a slack-tide/lake. You can pretty much lay flat on your back with a cocktail in one hand and finish the swim faster than I usually take to do 1500meters.
eta: Any specific races targeted?
I agree, as I love the Olympic distance. I have yet to run any further though, so that is still in my "to do" list. Olympics push me to train at a fairly high level, though I'm not too fearful of injury/burnout. Take it easy on that achilles.FYI: if you can find a race that promotes laying on the back and having a cocktail during the swim, I'm in! I received some great training in that arena last week!
Still trying to convince Furley to join me for the 15K instead of the 5K, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen. Maybe next year.

Would've gone a little later, but she had to be at work by 7:00. Anyway, did the 8 miles at 8:08 pace with temps in the upper 20s, and actually managed to get to the office by 7:00 myself.

Did five miles this morning despite wind chills in the lower 20s with 20+ mph wind gusts. Ran just under 8-minute pace.Playing basketball tonight and again tomorrow morning, and I might do a short (3-4 mile) run on the treadmill tomorrow afternoon before hitting the pavement for my weekly long run on Saturday.
, and it won't hit 60 until about 10 am.
I knew that'd catch up with me eventually.

I did 10 miles this morning with my running club in about the same amount of time. I probably would've run a little faster if I'd been by myself, but I enjoyed the company. Only about 20 degrees here with brisk winds from the NE. I can handle the cold temps, but I can DEFINITELY do without the wind.
Glad to hear it's not something serious right now though
