So..... I haven't been as active in here as my running has slowly been taking a back seat to a pursuit of a life time dream I've always had; professional archery. I shot competitively starting at age 7 and was a sponsored shooter as a teen. When the shop that sponsored me closed their doors in '95, I stupidly gave up the sport. I've always regretted that decision, but with the lack of local support it was hard to keep up (excuses!).
FF to last fall, I started to shoot competitively again when my brother took interest in it. With the internet, it's a lot easier to get products/support then it was in '95 when there were no local shops around. It's been like riding a bike... Last Sunday I won my first tournament (a small one) since coming back. My wife and I have discussed me pursuing becoming a pro and she's fully backed and even pushing me to go for it.
We'll be traveling to KY next month for the Indoor Nationals; I need to wet my beak on the big stages. No better way than to just throw myself into it. Unless I blow the doors off of a big shoot, I'll be shooting independently (no sponsors) for 2014. Working with a coach now who's been pushing me hard. He's half the reason for this pursuit; he's convinced I can beat the top dogs.
So with that has to come sacrifices. While I'm still running/training, my volume has been weak; 25-35 mpw. I'll still be running races and possibly still pursuing Boston. I'm playing it by ear for now.
Ran a hilly 6MLR for lunch today..... 65 degrees felt like 100!!!!
