I am pumped, thanks for asking! Rain looks like it will come through today into Saturday but clear out for Sunday with a high of 61. Looked really wet early in the week. Now it looks great.Good luck to @bushdocda on your marathon this weekend? Do we get a pre-race report? Weather? How ya feeling?
I mentioned it already but it's been awesome following along the work you've put in considering you're newer to this than some of the others in here. The quality and quantity is certainly accounted for. I can't wait to see how this weekend goes for you but either way should be truly proud of the effort you put in. Now just go enjoy the results of that work and go get some.I am pumped, thanks for asking! Rain looks like it will come through today into Saturday but clear out for Sunday with a high of 61. I’ve executed this plan/cycle just about as well as I could have asked at the beginning so it will be cool to put myself to the test. Ive looked back at last years training, last years race report and on experience alone I have grown tremendously. I’ve demolished last years shabby training with more quality and quantity. I have a much deeper well to draw from and I improved logistics by getting my bib mailed to avoid expo and staying much closer to the start. Lots of things in my favor as I anticipate Sunday morning and my nerves are coming and going. Ready to take on the 26.2.
Will find a tracking link and post # later - gun should be ~8am est Sunday
?
I have heard that for this race that there aren't assigned corrals and reading your race report from last year you mentioned that it was pretty crowded and slow the first 3 miles. Are you going to do anything different from last year for the start? You're clearly in better shape than last year and I am looking forward to see what you can do.I am pumped, thanks for asking! What's the goal? Around 3:30-3:40? This is just your second marathon, right?I am pumped, thanks for asking! Rain looks like it will come through today into Saturday but clear out for Sunday with a high of 61. Looked really wet early in the week. Now it looks great.

The McMillan equivalent for the marathon based on your half is 2:49:10, so breaking 2:50 could be possible. My entry was officially approved for the 2019 Chicago Marathon yesterday so I put that on the calendar. Kind of crazy that they make you decide almost a year away.
I don't know what what I want to do in the spring (besides the St. Louis relay, of course!). I've trained for an A race the last three winters so I'm used to the cold and darkness. Part of me wants to take time off but there's that other part that wants to keep pushing while I'm still "young" enough to get better.
Btw, you going to join in the STL relay? I don't think we ever heard from youThe McMillan equivalent for the marathon based on your half is 2:49:10, so breaking 2:50 could be possible.
They added 3 corrals by bib # for this year which should be (I hope) a better start flow. I am in the first corral and will l line up between 3:30 and 3:45 pace groups and ride out the first 2.5m miles that have the only uphill of note. If the corrals and my placement get me freed up by mile 3 I’ll be stoked bc last year was quite a jam through 5.I have heard that for this race that there aren't assigned corrals and reading your race report from last year you mentioned that it was pretty crowded and slow the first 3 miles. Yes and yes. I would be thrilled with the top end of that range. Per Hanson plan, I trained for 3:35 but I can’t wrap my head around that for race day pacing. What's the goal? Around 3:30-3:40? This is just your second marathon, right?
I will have to talk to the wife this weekend, she is mostly understanding of all the running I do but I am afraid that I will be making the request at an inopportune time. In about 2 weeks before I head out of town for the weekend with friends to run a marathon.Btw, you going to join in the STL relay? I don't think we ever heard from you![]()
Rested legs can make a huge difference. Hopefully you'll be shocked at how much easier that pace feels than it felt in training. That happens to me.Yes and yes. I would be thrilled with the top end of that range. Per Hanson plan, I trained for 3:35 but I can’t wrap my head around that for race day pacing.
As someone else who has been following the last 7 weeks of Hansons, I am very interested in seeing how close to 3:35 you will be.Per Hanson plan, I trained for 3:35 but I can’t wrap my head around that for race day pacing.
It's so stupid. One of the main reasons why I'm not inclined to sign up.Juxtatarot said:My entry was officially approved for the 2019 Chicago Marathon yesterday so I put that on the calendar. Kind of crazy that they make you decide almost a year away.
That, and because the weather is a total crapshoot. It's so stupid. One of the main reasons why I'm not inclined to sign up.
They've had a good 7 year run. That is if you're normal and tolerant of conditions over 37 degrees anywayThat, and because the weather is a total crapshoot.
They have. But the ones I've run:They've had a good 7 year run. That is if you're normal and tolerant of conditions over 37 degrees anyway![]()
Looking great for Indy so far. High of 49° on Saturday with an overnight low of 36° on Friday, meaning we'll probably be racing in the upper 30s/lower 40s.They've had a good 7 year run. That is if you're normal and tolerant of conditions over 37 degrees anyway![]()
That triggered a memory of an early post I made in the archived thread. Apparently it was my first 10K thread post: https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/302486-ran-a-10k-in-june/?do=findComment&comment=10923197Fixed.
It’s funny how much can change and also stay the same. That triggered a memory of an early post I made in the archived thread. Apparently it was my first 10K thread post: https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/302486-ran-a-10k-in-june/?do=findComment&comment=10923197
My run today inadvertently looks like butt cheeks. I might start running it more.I know you as “boner route guy”![]()
I wrote a pathetic little race report . I don't remember doing that. I apparently also had left heel pain and tight calves during training that year which is exactly what plagues me now. I didn't think that happened until several years later.. My current self could have given that guy some really good advice. It’s funny how much can change and also stay the same.
Since it's pre-race it'd probably be an uber and not a walk (which may already eliminate it from consideration), but we loved this place - http://www.saintjoseph.beer/food.@The Iguana, can you recommend a good restaurant close to my hotel (Le Méridien) for dinner on Friday night? Not pasta....I do that the night before the night before (Thursday). I typically just get some kind of chicken entree or something. Already have my reservation for Saturday night at St. Elmo's. Remains to be seen if I'll be celebrating or commiserating, but either way I'll be doing it over a big, juicy bone-in filet!
I remember you writing this around the time I did a half early October last year. I'm experiencing now what you were talking about. I didn't really get to go through it in 16 either as I was tapering for Columbus. The next time I do a fall marathon it's not going to be any earlier than sometime in November - and I realize that means I'll have to travel for it. I'm okay with that. It’s funny how much can change and also stay the same.
I wish Chicago was run later in the season, my favorite time of year to train is October and with a mid October race I’d be tapering and recovering all month.
Yes, I'm going to run every day in October and I'm sure I've never done that before. Fall seems a lot less windy here than spring too which is nice.I wish Chicago was run later in the season, my favorite time of year to train is October and with a mid October race I’d be tapering and recovering all month.
It is.
It fascinates me how fast runners make it look effortless. It doesn't even look like they are running fast at times but the stride length and kick is tremendous. It is.
One thing I don't recall us discussing much: the amount of bounce or “vertical oscillation” in the stride. I see this in other runners a lot and it baffles me why they are jumping every step.
I have been told my stride is efficient. I don't credit anything other than a natural tendency of trying to accomplish things as lazily as possible.
The beer mile guy is a good example of the "effortless" look.It fascinates me how fast runners make it look effortless. It doesn't even look like they are running fast at times but the stride length and kick is tremendous.
I'm pretty sure i don't do that when I run because I don't have the fitness to maintain that but it still amazes me the difference in how a fast runner looks compared to a slower runner like me. I'm assuming it's just a natural evolution as you speed up and that speed work helps with the faster form needed.
He's what made me do a search on that and what led me to finding that article. He made that look easy. I can't even sprint that fast, I don't think, and dude is just "jogging".The beer mile guy is a good example of the "effortless" look.
St. Joe's that was mentioned is an excellent option other than not getting a beer and being an uber rather than a walk. Other local-ish places I can think of aren't any closer.@The Iguana, can you recommend a good restaurant close to my hotel (Le Méridien) for dinner on Friday night? Thanks! I'll have my car, so St. Joe's isn't a problem. Like I said, my wife won't be getting down there until later, and I need to eat earlier, so I'll prob just belly up and eat at the bar. Do they brew an Octoberfest?St. Joe's that was mentioned is an excellent option other than not getting a beer and being an uber rather than a walk. If you want something right there, there are plenty of chain like places there that are ok - rock bottom, Weber grill, colts grill, old spaghetti factory, kilroy's. Actually as I type, there's a Scotty's right there too that is a local brewery and restaurant. A little higher end is Harry and izzy's but that's more of a steak place and you already have St. Elmo's after.
Feels like I am forgetting something... I'll think about it. St. Joe's is my favorites of that list so far.
Ahhhh, yes, St. Joeberfest. ?Thanks! I'll have my car, so St. Joe's isn't a problem. Like I said, my wife won't be getting down there until later, and I need to eat earlier, so I'll prob just belly up and eat at the bar. Do they brew an Octoberfest?

Right?! That’s insane. Doesn’t even look like he’s running that fast, and then I realize I likely couldn’t keep his pace for a single lap. Insane. He's what made me do a search on that and what led me to finding that article. He made that look easy. I can't even sprint that fast, I don't think, and dude is just "jogging".

Good luck this weekend racers!!
You're racing? Awesome. All I'll say is dont force it. Correct me if I'm wrong but have you been putting in comparable miles to when you were marathon training? Lack of quality would be my only real concern, assuming your injuries aren't bothering you anyway.Plan for my half tomorrow is to go out at 6:52 (1:29:59) and hold on for dear life for 13.1 miles. No clue if I’m capable of it, but we’ll find out. I’m open to suggestions.

My nerve issue isn’t getting any better, but I have learned to deal with it. It probably has a bigger impact than I think on my running because I try not to put much thought into it. I’ve been putting in about 40 a week besides for this week because my foot on that side was pretty messed up after my Saturday run. No real quality runs though, just slow time wasting miles. 7:05-7:15 is a real comfortable pace for me, but it seems like I start working much harder when I dip below 7:00. If I’m feeling good in the am, I’ll push it. If not maybe just back off a little and do 7:05-7:15 for the first few and see how I feel. You're racing? Awesome. All I'll say is dont force it. I think I did that this morning. Do I need to do it again tomorrow?Didn't realize you were going tomorrow. Good luck!!
And don't forget the neurostim run!
Yep. Today was important but tomorrow, about 2-3 hours before race (when you first get up, most likely), just go out for a 10 minute jog. Nothing more, nothing fast.I think I did that this morning. Do I need to do it again tomorrow?
And that's not your race warmup. You can still do that before as well.Yep. Today was important but tomorrow, about 2-3 hours before race (when you first get up, most likely), just go out for a 10 minute jog. Nothing more, nothing fast.

Weather is amazing. Temp 60 Dew Point 55. My PR has actually happened twice before on MP runs during marathon training. In a race my PR is 1:31 and some change.Good luck! Your PR is 1:31, right? What’s the weather forecast?
