Ran a 10k - Official Thread (11 Viewers)

I still don't think I'm in September 2019 shape, when I felt like I was just firing on all cylinders.  Regardless, going back to that, this is what I figure:

1mi:  6:02

5K:  21:55

10:  45:10

I love how you nerds are trying to steal our idea because you couldn't motivate yourselves like the Otis crew.  I bet most of you haven't dieted in years.

Some of you act like you think you're batman but are you willing to eat the apple and the tuna?  I doubt it.

Some of you are so focused on improving your 10k times that you've forgotten the joy of completing 10k for the first time.

Some of you are pretty cool actually and have been helpful.

But that's not important because we're challenging you chumps to an unspecific exercise thingy which we will surely lose and in much less organized style but we will have more fun doing it because we are the scrappy lovable underdog team and the movies tell us that you chumps are going down in since unlikely but entertaining fashion.

I'll leave this gauntlet over here because we're not really supposed to be slapping each other with them anymore.

I don't know what type of "unspecified exercise thingy" we're talking about, but on behalf of the entire 10K crew, we accept. :boxing:

Virtual relay 10K.  You pick 6 people.  We pick 6 people.  We'll spot you 20 minutes or so.

So anyone have any guesses on how much time having a crowd and competitors is worth?  I feel like that's the tricky part of this exercise.  At any rate, predictions for myself :

5K: 20:20

10K: 42:50

1mile: 5:59

Relevant training background:  Ran a couple of 5K's in just under 20 minutes in the fall, but have done no speed work since then.  Base should still be good as I was training for a half marathon next month that was just officially cancelled this week.  I've never raced a mile, but am not naturally fast, so I'm thinking running anything much under 6 flat will be tough.  Health wise my left foot has been giving me trouble for the last month or so and I'm currently getting over some sort of illness, so while I'm confident I will participate in the challenge, I'm not sure how many hard sessions I'll be able to handle before 5K week.

Each group picks 6 people.  5 run 1 mile.  1 runs 1.1 miles.  Add up times for each group.  We start down 20 minutes or so.
I'm pretty certain (even with how slow I am) that I could run an 8 minute mile pretty easily.  Exactly how fast are you jocks in here able to run a mile?    :oldunsure:

From Strava https://www.strava.com/athletes/5769366

Estimated Best Efforts
1k 4:02
1 mile 6:29
5k 22:10
10k 46:07
Half-Marathon 1:46:24

PS - I dont think im near those times anymore.  Id guess 20-40s per mile pace difference.
:oldunsure:

Those are almost exactly my times.  Just looked at our side by side (and my 10K time is from a while ago, so....) and they are crazy close.

Estimated Best Efforts

1K  4:02 (you)    4:03 (me)

1 mile  6:29  (you)    6:38 (me)

5k        22:10 (you)   21:52 (me)

10k      46:07  (you)   47:52 (me)

Half-Marathon  1:46:24   (you)     1:46:32 (me)

Ice Age Trail Races rescheduled from May to August.  :X

Apparently the Ultra-Endurance Sports Science & Medicine organization has recommended that all running events scheduled before June 15 be canceled or postponed.

I just saw a local race for may 24 postponed.

Dammit. They better not reschedule the 70.3 for the middle of summer. 🥵

:lmao:

this rules hard.
it’s like the TBirds went over to the rival gang territory to pick a fight

Any if you frail, skinny old bald men want a challenge, @eaganwildcats, @Boston Fred and I will take you down in a rowing challenge.

Upper body omg what’s that ?!!!

I think I may scale back the distance on the scheduled Sunday long. It's inevitable.

yeah, for 351 miles!
Don't exaggerate, it was only 102.37 miles, according to Strava.  So actually my pace was 17:27/mile.  I don't want to be accused of sandbagging.

Although I am pretty proud that from mile 20 on, my fastest split was that final mile 102 (11:47, and 10:50 for that final .37!).

Wait, what's this?  Looks like I have some catching up to do.  :lmao:

Right?!?   :excited:

Unfortunately I’m sticking with my <10% chance WSER happens.   :kicksrock:

At least I’ll be able to embarrass myself through some road racing in here to make me feel better about myself...
Unfortunately I agree with you.  Even if the state/feds relax regulations on group sizes by then, what about the travel there with so many runners coming from all over the country and the world?

Wondering about Hardrock - only like 110 runners in tiny mountain towns in Colorado in mid-July.  If it doesn't happen that'll be two years in a row with no race (and no lottery for me).

Angeles Crest in early August?  Maybe?

Back on track.  I'll go with:

5K: 21:45 (~7:00/mile)

10K: 45:00 (7:15/mile)

1 mile: 6:10

Kinda where I was mid-marathon training early last fall.  I'll need some good weeks (with a sore Achilles) to get back there, but worst case, I bust out my Vaporflys.
