Twice in one week! I've missed it. But, without getting into messy details, it's a little uncomfortable out there right now. Have a 2nd procedure next week and then hopefully I'm back to normal and can build back up some stamina and such.

Glad to hear your recovery is going well enough to run.  Sending good vibes your way for the second round, GB!

My food intake has been gross for a month or so.  I can't stop eating candy and ice cream and I'm starting to feel more wiggle in the gut than I have in awhile

The problem is that I don't want to cut back on the calories because ice cream is delicious

Hopefully my increase in mileage will even this out, or my wife will have more of me to love.

I have been doing a bit of the same. It’s funny when I eat like garbage, my running seems to benefit from it.

Gonna drive to the bike path about 20 mins away for my 14. Gotta go stash some water first along the way somewhere.

Actually had a pretty nice run this morning. About 5 miles in stopped at the new park they just finished near the Farmers Market. It has a great new bathroom there - nice and clean. 10 mile run was actually pretty good this morning - shaved 6 minutes off of last week with a HR 3 beats lower. So I'm getting there. After that:

1. Farmers Market. Today must have been hot chick day. Holy smokes there was some eye candy extraordinaire. Good thing I was wearing my mask to cover up my drool.

2. Bakery. Had to grab a snickerdoodle and 2 ham and cheese croissants for the kids.

3. Quik Trip for a big fat coke.

4. Grabbed a breakfast burrito at Mack Donalds.

Gonna work on the bathroom a little bit and then grill some chicken tonight with some new potatoes, green beans, and corn on the cob.

Maybe a couple of cold ones. Have a good day gentlemen. :banned:

Ride wasn't half bad this morning. I'm still sweating a lot, but started at 68°, ended at 88° with a dew point 68 (I guess I started with 100% humidity?) Really didn't feel bad at all.

Rode by the new Minor league baseball park which is obviously vastly underused right now.

 ice cream is delicious
You don't say 🤔

It's delicious enough that I'd eat it despite being lactose intolerant.  I've started taking lactaid, and cut way back on the ice cream. That seems to have helped the gut big time.

Anyone up for some good old-fashioned running fun?
No.

Quick trick up to the Superior Hiking Trail with the family this weekend.  A couple hikes and a couple runs (one simply to meet the family at the trailhead for a hike) over the past 24 hours and damn, I’m terribly out of shape.  Just a complete ### kicking and I feel like going to bed.  I don’t think it helped to do the hike and two runs today on about a 20 hour fast, but still.  Embarrassing.  That said, not many places I enjoy more than the SHT.

Trails are so awesome, even if physically challenging.  Drain the body, replenish the mind.

🤯🤔

This is new to me, but I think it's consistent.

Swam long intervals today - 1,000 750 500. Pulled (with buoy) the 750. Effort felt consistent throughout. Pull interval HR was 60bpm lower than when I'm kicking.  Regular swimming has the HR around 200 (doesn't feel anywhere near that hard). Pull was basically low zone 2 / low MAF (is that even a thing?)

I will acknowledge that the pull feels somewhat smoother, but not that big a difference effort-wise.
60bpm delta with pull buoy?  Sounds like something wrong with the HR reader.

I use this watch as well.  It’s fabulous.
Moi aussi. It's a great watch all around. There are times when I think I'll upgrade or get something else new and shiny but then I never have a reason to because the 920XT can do it all.
I bought my wife the stylish forerunner 935    as the 920 looks like a Volvo. That said, I’m not a fan of her watch. I don’t like the HR reader on it (I use a strap) and I find the interface a little clunky.

Doing a rogue Boilermaker 15k run tomorrow.

My BIL has run this like 20 years in a row. This year it was cancelled due to CV. Typically this race has like 10k people and is well attended fan wise.

We will kickoff normal time 8am but won’t be racing racing. Will be more of an enjoyable pace. Knowing what I know about upstate NY, I’m guessing there will be about 1k people doing the same thing.  Not sure what to expect as the roads won’t be shutdown. TBH I’m expecting a full on :trainwreck:

See ya on the flip side!

Wife and I drove to Boston yesterday to visit elderly mother in law for first time since February

She lives at the foot of the descent from Heartbreak Hill. Ran 4 miles west on Comm Ave to the Newton Fire Station and back. Did pretty well tho the heat and hills finally got me and I had to walk for a tenth of a mile up the steepest part near the beginning of the third and final hill in Newton

Mother in law just turned 89. I need to HTFU and BQ for 2022 if I ever want to do this thing

Checked the weather before leaving this morning, saw that I had probably two hours before rain and storms would come.

Got down to the confluence at 8, put in and decided to take the creek instead of the River. When I had hit 2 miles, I'm facing north and see a rather large bolt of lightning off in the distance, so I figure it's time to turn around. Got back to the ramp, had to go a little further to make 4 miles (on the way out, I had taken a branch that was blocked at the arsenal), hit the Tennessee River for a little, turn around and hit 4 miles right at the boat launch. Got out, strapped the kayak to the roof, and right as I'm finishing the last strap it starts to rain. By the time I had driven a mile the storm was here. All good, except if you've ever driven in heavy wind with a trailer or something large on your roof, you'll appreciate the challenge. These winds were easily over 20mph, plus driving 50 mph. The plus side is, the straps work!

Beautiful morning, nobody wants to admit it, but kayaking >> running.

Fwiw, HR while kayaking mostly stays between 70-100.

I'm guessing that's true.

Same thing (sort of) happened in the river Friday. When swimming across, my HR was well over 180. Swam upstream for a bit, HR goes between 120-140. Turn to cross again, HR jumps back over  180-200. I'd attribute that to the waves.

Also a strap guy here. I just find that it's much more accurate and it's not a huge deal to throw on before a run or bike. I have a feeling my 920 will be on my wrist until it dies.

Got up this morning, fully intending to try to get a run in, despite the butt pain and the 29C (84F) temps.  Ran back and forth across the master bedroom a couple times and decided no joy.

:sadbanana:

Have an appointment at the sports medicine clinic on Friday.  I imagine their advice will be "stop running until it recovers".  Ugh.

It's amazing how appealing running in the heat becomes, when you can't actually do it!  I need to bottle up this feeling for when I want to whine about the weather in the future.

Maybe not.  Of course, if the pain is too bad to run, you shouldn't.  However, I suspect they will recommend physical therapy for stretching and strengthening exercises while still running as your body permits.

In all seriousness, sorry to hear that the injury is lingering.  Few thing worse than being a runner who can't run... :kicksrock:

I met a friend for drinks at an outdoor pop-up spot in the hood on Saturday afternoon. Had a beer and two strong margaritas and headed home... more buzzed than I was expecting given the consumption. Got home around 6 completely wasted and not feeling right. Tried to sit down with the family to watch a movie but quickly made a run for my bathroom- where I stayed puking, shaking, anxiety ridden and out of it until 1am... a time that I completely lost- I thought I was in there for like half an hour.

I spent yesterday laying low and sleeping. figured I had probably gotten one or all of food poisoning (had a premade bagged salad for lunch), dehydration, alcohol poisoning. It wasn't anything I'd experienced before from being fall-down drunk or dehydrated or even food poisoned. might have been an anxiety attack thrown in as well. was able to eat and drink without puking and feeling nauseous, and was just feeling wiped out, a little dizzy and out of it.

today I'm feeling more dizzy and out of it.

not running until this gets sorted.

Did your friend maybe slip something in your drink to take advantage of The Floppo?

Did you run a 5K recently and get a little lost?

In all seriousness, though, that's scary. Hope you get well soon and there's not much to it but none of that sounds normal. Get better.

thanks gb. and lol- I did think of the 5k. starting to wonder if this might just be my reaction to body-stress/sickness as I've aged. the feeling was and is definitely similar to that feeling I had with the 5k... :oldunsure: ... minus the puking

@El Floppo - be careful!  I’d picked up an inner ear disorder almost 30 years ago, and it started with an onslaught of dizziness and severe vomiting.  Really hoping you don’t develop that.
Thanks gb....I recall us discussing that previously, iirc when I first got tinnitus and was having a couple days of equilibrium issues. Menieres disease? I looked into it and it wasn't what I had then...but will keep a close eye on my body the next couple days.

Yup - Meniere’s.  Fingers crossed for ya.

Anyone ever tried capsaicin for ailments?

I got a cream to try on my stubborn foot as supposedly it helps with inflammation.  Jury's still out, but they're not joking when they say exercising may cause a burning sensation - it had been 12 hours since I applied it, and the last 3 miles of my run it felt like someone had lit my foot on fire.  Pain seemed maybe better, although hard to tell for sure with all of the burning  :lmao:  Think I'm going to not apply for a day or two to let the heat sensitivity go down.

It's apparently good for jock itch.

Well, given its potency the tube I have should last me any ailments that could potentially be treated with it for the rest of my life.  Apparently some people like it for arthritis and neuropathy.  I found some study on it relating to surgical repair of rat achilles, but it was a bit over my head.

Regardless, supposedly the associated burning becomes less over time.  I'm definitely going to err on the side of using a minimal amount / spacing it out over days, though, because I don't want my foot feeling like it's burning every time it gets warm.  Hopefully it'll have some positive benefit, even if only from placebo effects.

Biofreeze works well ...apparently as a less intense solution.

Ugh.

Ran for the first time in 18 days this morning. Just 4 miles. My left leg, mostly around the knee, then up into the groin, definitely feels it now.

Is it bad that I don't even know the tendon / ligament / muscle that hurts?

Back side of the leg, basically between the knee and the calf. The discomfort goes further but that's the main point.

I'm about ready to give up running for a long time. It's hot and nasty anyway.

There may be something to this.

Weighed in and I am ~5 lbs up from a few weeks ago  :porked:

V02 Max ticked up today and ties my highest level ever  :coffee:

(though I do not feel my running shape is as good now as it was previously)

Since my appointment isn't until Friday, I've been busy with Dr. Google to self-diagnose.  I'm thinking maybe Piriformis problems.  But "Dead Butt Syndrome" or Gluteus Medius Tendinopathy seems to fit better for my symptoms.  Plus, this quote stuck with me:

Orthopedic specialists have noted an increase the number of DBS cases over the last few years, possibly due to how many patients run for long distances after sitting for hours during the workday.
This is so me.  On a typical non-running day, I'm lucky to get 3K steps in.  Running days, I get 13K+ (about 1,600 steps per mile).  Were it not for running, I'm still incredibly sedentary.

It sounds like an MRI can't confirm this diagnosis, but can rule out others.  Willing to get a private one, if my insurance doesn't cover...

First attempt to run after Saturdays sickness. Went slow, but pulled the plug around 1m in. Not ready yet.

My standing HR has been on the low 40s. While I've been there before, I also am overdue for my physical and dr Google has some of my symptoms as potential heart issues (I've been previously diagnosed with a very slight murmur). I'm going to take this slow.

Last night was another glutenous glutinous gluttonous evening of BW3's.

I had to make an emergency poop stop a couple feet off the path on my run this morning.

Time to reevaluate my life choices  :lmao:

A couple feet off the path?  Sounds like maybe you need some expert help (Don't worry chief - my finder's fees are quite reasonable).

Would you say your evening was Glutenous Maximus?  [badum tish]
