Listen here you big pansy. Part of the reason I'm going for the marathon this year is because of watching your (and others) training progress. The progress you and everyone makes around here is incredible. That race you ran is scratching the surface of where you can be, and you worked so hard to get to that point. And you were cruising that day.I believe the words were "never ####### again".

I bought a fresh pair of size 11s last week and on my ten miler Saturday felt like my foot was coming out of it. It was all I could think about as I ran.
So I went out after my Saturday run and bought a pair of 10.5s and have run four times this week w/ a 10.5 on right and 11 on left. Kind of goofy but it feels great so I'm rolling with it. Used cash from my secret sock drawer gambling stash to fund it. No need to explain dropping 300 in two days on two pairs of shoes, two that I'll never use, to anyone but you nerds.

I remember the first time I had 4 pairs of shoes show up at the door. My wife looked at me with that WTF look. Speaking of "models" here. Is the glide 5 the same shoe as the glide 6 (replace with whatever model you have) with different colors and/or different assembly etc? All the technical aspects the same? Not sure how to ask my question, but I got the shoes I did because I run closer to the outside of my foot and these shoes were best for that type of stride. Yup, the Glide will always be a stability/control shoe (or whatever it is). They just tweak things like heel drop, weight, colors, etc. I haven't been to a B&M shoe store in years.I've never worry about getting the newest model. I'd think given your knee issues that more leg strength would be better for you.I think not doing the leg workout is to my benefit. I struggled a little bit today, but not like I have been the past few Fridays. I didn't do leg workout yesterday like I normally do. Did another round of upper/abs instead.
My knee issues aren't a strength problem. They are a cartilage problem. Thanks, I appreciate the input. Really want to crack 24 minutes.I'd say don't make it a discouraging event by flying out of the gates ...don't sprint. But take off at a pace that's somewhat uncomfortable, knowing it will continue to feel harder as the race proceeds. You could try something around an 8 minute mile and see how long you can sustain it ...that could bring you in close to 25 minutes. Good luck! I've been running the 5k at around 26 minutes without pushing myself too hard. Everyone tells me that I'll run faster during the race. What is a realistic expectation for improvement. I want to get down to an 8 minute mile pace. I've also read that you should not start too fast, but I've also read the opposite that people say to start fast and then just will through it at the end. What is the best approach for my first 5k?

I ran 5k yesterday with the dog at 29:25. each mile I ran was faster than the previous one. I was breathing hard but nothing too bad.
how much quicker will I run a race? will adrenaline kick in and get me more around 28:00? its only 5k so I was thinking of just running balls out (for me, that'd be just under 9:00 min/mi) for a mile or two and see what happens. worst thing that can happen is I have to walk for 30 seconds before picking up the pace again.

You could always return them and claim that they are mismatchedd. I mean they only cost about $2 to make and they are still making more producing two pairs to get you to buy one.
