Wow, that must have been some fineprint because I thought it was 25% off everything. That sucks.
Yup, put them in my cart, applied the code, and price didn't change.  Then saw the excusions link on the top of the screen, " 25% discount excludes: Bondi 5, Hupana, and Challenger ATR 3."

I never saw those features, so I can't really say.... I didn't think the other stuff was worth it so I cancelled it a while back.  Did you join the FFA group on Strava?

Welcome back!
I was giving everything a second look this morning and noticed all of that.  Seems like it used to just be the suffer score and the personalized heat map (which for me was running the same damn road everyday).

Didn't know there was a group.  I need to get hooked up.

Speaking of Strava, we need an update on who is who over there. I see there's some new blood that have joined TeamFFA who I assume are FBG's. Also, we need to clean the group up and clear out the guys or gals that are definitely not FBG's. LIke that spanish dude who is crushing everyone on the leaderboard each week.
@Sand is the group admin - I assume he can do this?

This is what happens with 5-10 years of ongoing training!  We get better.  :pickle:
I truly am kicking myself for dropping out.  I never completely dropped out, but I might as well have.  I think I've run more the month of November than I did all summer/spring.  :(

I've had about 4 years worth of excuses I'm done with.  Signed up to run a half in about 6 weeks.  I won't be fully prepared, but its a big step in the right direction.

Went out for 8 mile yesterday, 10:39 pace avg HR of 153.  That's really not all that different than what i would have done 4-5 years ago on a long run, with the exception of my HR would have been 125-130.

Will be signing up shortly

Anyone else?  To be honest I can't keep track of who is a real FBG or not.

I just checked, and in your settings you can add your board name if you want after your last name. Just put a dash after my last name and added the board name.

Might be a way to do it.

Today I officially signed up for the Wisconsin Marathon on May 6 in Kenosha, WI.  Hopefully it will be my BQ for '18.

@ChiefD Hoping you'll be able to join me!
Talked to my wife about this over the weekend. Her words:

"If you are going to do another, you may as well travel to a different city for something new."

Provided my health stuff checks out in a couple of weeks, I'm about 90% sure I will sign up. Guessing I don't need to worry about the field getting full for this one?

Simone is definitely not one of us.

I don't know who Matt P or Scott S are..... does anyone?
I think Scott S is TheWalkmen?  I don't think he has posted here in a while.  Besides Simone and the Spanish guy I think everyone else is a FBG.  By looking at profiles, they were the two serial club joiners.

Anyone ever done the Myrtle Beach Marathon? @pbm107 I was considering this one over my hometown Shamrock Marathon. It's March 4th, so it's a couple weeks earlier than Shamrock. Both are flat fast courses, was just thinking doing something different.

Ankle is feeling noticeably better with swelling 99% gone but still feel a tiny bit of soreness in spots.  I'll test it out today and/or tomorrow - sucks there's 2" of rain forecasted.  I may just jump on the treadmill instead :X   I don't expect any setbacks that will prevent me from racing.  Only thing stopping me is a really bad limp; otherwise I'm going for it.

Runner tracking is set up, I'm bib 144.  http://results.xacte.com/track?id=1374  Hopefully its a little more reliable than it was in 2014.

I'm going to be going for a conservative/negative split.  Pace band - https://postimg.org/image/ps9isqj0d/

Good news. Yeah, I would just do the treadmill regardless just in case it starts bothering you, you can hop off at any time.

Forecast looks GREAT for race day.

I am still planning on running the Shamrock Marathon, hopefully you’ll be around for the post-race party.  I need to start running tomorrow, I am really out of shape.

In all likelihood I'll still end up running Shamrock. But if I do decide to run Myrtle Beach I'd still probably run the Shamrock half because it's really a fun race weekend and I haven't missed it since I began running. But if you're definitely in for it, that does sweeten the deal to stay home.

I have Shamrock earmarked as my Plan B. ;)

Sounds like a good plan and I like that you're going with the pace band.  Good luck, I also will be tracking.
This will be the first time using one, so it should be fun.  I've got little to no self control (which is why I started HR training), so I figured maybe having the nerd printout on my wrist will help to force me to slow the F down over the first 5K.

14 weeks and without "pre-training"?  I'm a little surprised as this isn't your normal M.O.

Yeah this is less than ideal, definitely won't be looking to PR.  Depending on how the next three weeks go, I will probably attempt the last 12 weeks of the Pftiz 70 plan.  Luckily I will be 40 for Boston 2018 so my BQ time is 3:15.

Yeah, he really needs 5 more minutes.

But wait @pbm107 does that mean you're not going to pace me to a 2:58??
I may need the extra 5 for this race, I haven’t run much the past 3 months.   No 2:58 for me this time, but hopefully I’ll be faster than that for Boston.

HA! Gotta aim high!

You know seriously though...when I ran Richmond I didn't have my monitor turned on but I felt like I had 3:00 cardio. Unfortunately after the 3 week running layoff my legs were probably only capable of a 3:15 or so.

So yeah, it's probably a bit of a long shot going sub 3 but I don't think I was far off before I got hurt. I think I was somewhere between 3:02-05.

When you get older and #### hurts all the time you'll long for youth and the tighter BQ times that accompany it.  :hot:
:goodposting:

speaking of... nicest letter I've gotten in my entire life.

fit great so far walking around. will take them out this weekend for a spin.

thanks, nigel! I'm pinning that note up on fridge (9yo floppinho wants to keep it for himself- he's an ### man).

at 45, they move it to 3:25.  That's how I BQed.  ha ha

Last Wed I met with a doc who does the surgery required to fix my meniscal root tear. He said there's no way to know if it's fixable until he gets in there and has a look. If he does so and goes for it 8 weeks of non-weight bearing will follow, then another 3 - 4 months of rehab. If he can't fix it he'd trim whatever is flapping around causing the joint to catch and I'd be walking on it in a few days. So I'm going to hold off on surgery, winter in Boston would be a tough time to be on crutches. I think end of Feb will be a good time if I decide to go ahead with it. He also talked about growing some cartiliidge in a test tube and sticking that in there to fill a gap where I'm missing some, a problem distinct from the meniscus but in the same area. For now he gave me a cortisone shot which he said should help calm the symptoms down, maybe even to the point where I could give running a go. His view is to ignore what the MRI says and make decision based on symptoms and how I feel, maybe the shot can buy me a season of pain-free running. The shot takes a few weeks to take full effect, so I'm going to wait it out a bit. I've been doing tons of leg presses and hip strengthening to try to wake up the muscles that have stopped firing since I've been dragging my left leg around for so long. My left quad in particular is noticeably smaller than my right. I feel better now than I have in four months though.

Overall I left there feeling a whole lot more optimistic. Will see him again in early January.

This wasn't planned, but I ended up running 0.1 less miles in November (126.9) vs. October (127.0).  Maybe I should run to my afternoon meeting just to match it.  Just did some math and as long as I don't do less than that in December (intend to do quite a bit more actually) then I'll eclipse 2,000 for the year, which is about double what I've ever done before.

So after working nearly everyday for about 3 months, I decided I was sick of being a fat piece of #### and need to get back in shape. Until about 2 weeks ago, I've laced them up about 5-6 times in the last 5 months.  I have gone out about 12 of 16 days since. I entered the lottery for Chicago and hear back on 12/13. I also got a buddy from work to sign up for The Race to Wrigley in April, which will be his first race.

your brother seems like a fat-###... which would make that a pretty short race.

but inspiring to hear you're back in the saddle.

You get back down here and we'll run one together.  I could do one up there too .

So in 5 years I might be good to go?   :excited:

Timing can be a #####.  10 days from rocket city and this week is testing for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. Optional of course but it's something I've wanted since I was a cadet 20 years ago. (The trick is having an actual German soldier, certified to conduct the test) So the first week of a 2 week taper looks nothing like what a taper should.  But, this will be my only chance to earn this badge and there will be marathons in my future.

There will be a dozen of us testing, including one of my captains who was the catalyst for this event.

The German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge is one of the few approved foreign awards that can be worn on U.S. military uniforms. Traditionally, it is also one of the most sought after awards and can be earned by service members of any rank. The competition tests the agility, endurance, strength and mental toughness of the participants."It really is a holistic look at what it means to be a Soldier," said 1st Lt. Daniel Dore, with Kuwait-Base Operations and Security Support Services Office, Area Support Group-Kuwait. "You're testing everything."The competition included a 100-meter swim, 11x10 meter sprint, chin-up, 1,000-meter run, ruck march with a 33-pound load and marksmanship test using the M9 pistol.Dore, a native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, said participants are competing against themselves. In order to move on in the competition they had to meet the set standards for each event.Dore, the officer in charge of the week-long German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge test, and previous gold badge recipient himself, added, "There is a pressure to perform every single day of the competition, you just can't take a day off."The swim test was the first event, and the primary eliminator of participants from the competition. The required distance was 100 meters, which they had to complete within four minutes in full-duty uniform, minus hat and boots. Before exiting the pool competitors had to remove their outer garments, down to their swimwear, while still treading water to complete the event. On the second day of the event, participants were tested in a basic fitness test to challenge their endurance. The fitness test took the average score of its three events to determine the badge level service members would qualify for and try to maintain through the final two events."A lot of people can go out and run 1,000 meters, but can you run it after doing a flex-arm hang, shuttle sprint and swim?" asked Dore. "Can you follow that up with a ruck march and finish with shooting? The events build on each other and really test the service members overall ability to demonstrate that whole complete package."The standard for the ruck march was carrying a 33 pound load, approximately 7.4 miles in 120 minutes for gold, 5.5 miles in 90 minutes for silver and 3.7 miles in 60 minutes for bronze. The marksmanship standard was shooting 5 targets for gold, 4 for silver and 3 for bronze with an M9 pistol at a distance of 20-meters.Spc. Chance Mooney, a motor transport operator, with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 524th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, was the lone-finisher of the competition of the four Soldiers sent by his battalion.Mooney, a native of Savannah, Georgia, said seeing higher ranking individuals competing for the badge sets an example for him and his fellow junior enlisted service members. The motivation to compete for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge varied among competitors. Some said they were competing to wear the badge on their uniform, others said their love of physical tests and competition drove them to earn the badge. For Staff Sgt. Joseph Gomez, air mobility noncommissioned officer in charge, with 4th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, his love of competition was his drive to earn the gold-badge."I like pushing myself," said Gomez, from Corpus Christi, Texas. "I always like doing my best. One way of doing it is by going into these events and finding out where I am."The 46-year-old former Marine says his competitive approach is reflected in all aspects of his life. Recovering from a recent shoulder injury, he struggled to meet the required time limit for the flex arm hang but spent two-weeks losing weight and training to hang from the pullup bars in uniform and backpack. He credits his fitness to the mile a day swimming and keeping his family first."Most of my desires always focus on the family," said Gomez. "Everything else comes second."
I'm slightly worried about the sprint, I'm not a quick guy.  The rest should be alright.
