Congrats! While we may have been calling you grandpa all along, now it's official!I'm a grandpa! Tri-a'-little born 7 am. Everyone doing great. Labor/delivery took maybe 4 or 5 hours ...I've had races longer than that!

Goal(s) for 2016: To do more local races, run at least a few with my sons, and BQ next December. Volume goal for next year - 75 hours swimming, 125 hours bike, 150 hours run, 50 hours weights
Did more local races, a few with my 8yo who got a lot more interested in running; BQ’d in December. Didn’t come close to 75 hours swimming, exceeded the rest.
every day is odd and funny.
youse guys. Yeah, really interesting from a strategy perspective. I think the course is pretty easy, in fact it switches from trail loops to road loops during the night. It's not about speed, not about climbing or technical running, it's all about managing to get back to that start line every hour on the hour.My initial thought would be to run "easy" (which would be slower and slower as the laps added up) and take advantage of the rest time before the next start. Probably a woefully ignorant strategy though since I know very little about ultras and stuff.
Wow, how great is this? Congrats!FUBAR said:adopting our daughter from China and bonding with her.
I'm not entirely sure how this happens or how it can be prevented, it's not like I'm running over sharp objects and I haven't changed anything since the last few rides which didn't have flats.
Awesome! Hope you gave the mom one of your medals for her best performance ever!I'm a grandpa! Tri-a'-little born 7 am. Everyone doing great. Labor/delivery took maybe 4 or 5 hours ...I've had races longer than that!
Normally, I would try to make this happen, but its the weekend after Chicago marathon so I can't do it this year. You know, if there was ever a group of us that wanted to do an Ultra together, something like this would be ideal. If a number of you would want to do this, I'd seriously consider it.
Your gym is open today? :jealous:Osaurus said:Ran on the treadmill today and did some upper body at the gym. Upper 70s and my cold is finally gone. Might go for a run tonight, but definitely in the morning.

Time to get a Baby Jogger so you can take the little one out on runs with you. My kids loved it when they were younger.Maybe one of the "run thru Hell" medals from Dances With Dirt?
We did all spend some time together at their place this afternoon. I could get used to this.
Awww yeah!2016 Year-end Report
Goal(s) for 2017:
I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. I'm going to kick sugar/carb addiction once and for all. I feel so crappy when I'm consuming sugar and so great when I'm not that it's all about having the discipline to stick to a healthy lifestyle. Motivation comes and goes, but discipline doesn't once you can establish it. I've gone from a college-esque low of 178lbs in early September to a lethargic 192lbs currently. Time to get disciplined and stay disciplined.
Secondly, I'm now in the "need to run Western States" camp with an itch that needs to be scratched. With limited local qualifying options, I'm going to give a go of the Kettle Moraine 100 in Wisconsin in early June in lieu of running the Superior 100 again in September. If all else was equal, I'd run the Superior 100 without a second thought. Love love love that trail. But with the training time requirement and two young children, I figure it best to incur the heavy training over the February to May timeframe when the weather here is mediocre and then be able to enjoy the summer with the family than to put another year of heavy training in during the prime summer months of June through August for a September race. Running 100 mile races is a bit selfish, so I'm attempting to mitigate that selfishness just a bit.
The Kettle Moraine 100 is a far more runnable race than the Superior 100 with something like 9000 feet each of elevation gain and loss. I'm more of a grinder as pure running is not my strongsuit so I'll aim for a finish first and foremost, and then hope I can do it in the 24-26 hour range.
"Pass that crack pipe over here, will you." You ####### addicts.Awww yeah!
Oh, please. We all know that you placed yourself there and watched her ### for 10 miles.i finished 3 seconds behind a 62 year old woman in 2016![]()

Hell yeah! Who's next?
If I can run at that point I'll run a leg with you. No telling at this point.
Oh ####!
Will need to force myself to hit the road and trails in Jan/Feb in order to be ready for a few races in late March/early April around DC and Baltimore. Targeting my first marathon in October at the Marine Corp Marathon in October. I can improve/ensure entry by completing a 17k race in March so that’s goal 1. Cherry Blossom 10m is a week or so after then maybe a trail half marathon in late April. After that push I want to reassess the summer and target the Annapolis 10 mile race in August and maybe another trail race during training for the marathon in October.
Going to need a lot more miles to be ready – should be able to log 1000 miles on strava which would be cool.

Are you in the Strava group? I'm not keeping good track (and honestly I have a hard time tracking alias to names for some folks).
If only there was a way to add your board name to the end of your name on there..........I think his initials are SM. Only Maryland I found. If I am wrong correct me though. Welcome, aboard![]()

Awesome news on the ankle. On my end I am liking my chances of getting a BQ time at Shamrock.@pbm107 I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to join you for the Shamrock marathon. Past 2 weeks my ankle has felt pretty decent. Worse comes to worse and I suffer a setback, I think I'm going target the Coastal Delaware Running Festival marathon at the end of April but I'd rather stay home and run with a fellow FBG.![]()
Was there ever any doubt?Awesome news on the ankle. On my end I am liking my chances of getting a BQ time at Shamrock.
