Ran a 10k - Official Thread (9 Viewers)

Low 50s and light rain this morning here in Wisconsin.  THIS is the weather I want for my marathon!  #heaven

Went and watched the CrossFit games yesterday.  While these guys (and gals) are amazing physical specimens and terrific athletes, man did they look awkward and uncomfortable on bikes!
Yeah, we are supposed to be at 54 degrees tomorrow morning. Rain all day though, but it's not supposed to start until 8.  Gonna try and be on the road by 6 to try and beat it.

Yeah, I'll be going out at 7 tomorrow for 17 miles.  Forecast says 59°.  It'll be humid AF (dew point 55°), but I'll take it.

You'll take it? Screw you guys. I'm running a 5K tomorrow and the starting temp is going to 80 and 71 dew point.
I may actually have to wear a long sleeve shirt and a stocking cap.

Oh, and kick your normal ### tomorrow.

Sounds nice.  Back to Tampa tonight where the SI should be 150+ at 6 am tomorrow and goes up to the high 160s in the afternoon.  Enjoy

 yup.  I even say it in this link though - so much easier to link to the same thing I'd write.

Thanks for posting that link. I went and re-read your post and then some of the follow up links. I always figured I was running my long runs at the upper end of my threshold in terms of heart rate, but reading that again confirms it.

I need to slow down even more. As hard as that is, especially now that I'm feeling better.

Who here is the other guy in Louisiana?  On Strava at least?  A street where you run is very very similar to my street and freaked me out a bit lol.

Side note: Anyone have experience with calf sleeves?  I was reading about them helping with shin splints.
these are the pair I was talking about. 10 bucks is well worth it. The material is very similar to my thirty48 pair at a third the price.

I chose a really dumb weekend to make no real distance running plans.  I mean, I didn't choose - our schedule did, but I went along for the ride.  81/71 in a few minutes isn't going to be any fun, but 70/54 tomorrow and 73/58 Sunday look fan-#######-tastic.

Maybe I'll squeeze something decent in at some point.  <_<

Just ordered the large size - $6.99 and will be here on Sunday.  Thanks!

I was gonna say....make some plans now!

It was a hike, not a run, but  I spent an epic couple of hours this morning in the Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake City.  I got up to the lake at the top of the trail, took in the views, and literally said out loud, "damn I love the mountains!"  I was planning on running more, but it was so technical and steep that even on the way back down there was little that was runnable for this flatlander.  A little over 2,000' of gain over the 7 mile out and back, and topped out at 10,250'.  I was thinking as I started around 8,500' that the altitude wasn't really bothering me, and then as soon as I hit 9,000' it hit.  But it hurts so good......

Your running photography skills certainly dwarf mine!

I'm coming to terms with some hangover miles on Sunday.  Maybe I'll be smart and hydrate plenty before going to bed Saturday.  I probably won't.  But maybe.
I started this morning with a bit of a hangover.  Would have been worse if not for the <4% beer here in Utah.  But I sure felt great by the end.

Lol. C'mon, I live at essentially sea level!  Sure I spend all my time on the hills around, but I can't get above 2,572' in Marin.  But point taken, I guess maybe "flatlander" isn't the most accurate term. Maybe "sea-level dweller" is a bit more accurate.

:hifive:  If I actually catch my connecting flight home in Atlanta later.  I'm drinking wine right now to pass the time.

3 McDonald's doubles, 4 Papa John's slices, 2 hash browns, 1 large fry 4 cheese sticks and a pint of ice cream I'm working on. Also, enough vodka to drown an elephant. I'm so ready for this 5K in the morning.

And........ zero grains of rice!

So I was just told I am racing the 5k tomorrow instead of running with my son. "You can come find us then run the last half mile together."

Would have been nice to know before I mowed down those 2 donuts. And ran for more than 2 hours in the woods on Wednesday. But @JShare87 is coming off a marathons. And a buffet of fast food. So my complaining makes it seem like I am in need of a safe space.

I am going to wake up after a day Magic Kingdom and pool beers and break in some new shoes.

15:59

Time to make the donuts.

61 degrees. Rain coming in 2 hours. Need to do a 90 minute run. This could get entertaining at the end.

Good luck racers today!

Edit: Just looked at the weather map. This rain is coming quick. I'm getting wet. Great if you are in bed with a lady, but not when you are trying to get in a long run.

   I like getting wet either way.

61 and wet works just fine.   :pickle:

Speed is coming back little by little. 17 miles this morning at 7:57/149. That's 46 miles so far this week. I'll likely do a super easy 4-mile recovery run tomorrow to give me an even 50 for the week.

MAC - Great race!!

Officially 18:40 but the guy on the bike led us the wrong direction and I had to stop and turnaround.

Unofficially I paused my watch when we stopped and ran a 18:34. So I'm happy but annoyed. Splits looked pretty good:

6:06, 6:01, 5:59 & 5:04 pace for the last .1.

Not bad considering the 150 SI. Not true a PR but definitely my best 5K in summer heat.

1/47 age group & 4/458 overall
