It's a real shame that they aren't getting tomorrow's weather today.Looks like their suck index is going to stay below 120, so long as the sun doesn't peak out late in the race. More sun --> more heat. Slight tail wind, but more cross than at their backs. May be a good thing to help keep them cool(er).

You won't need the -5 minutes anyone. They reduced the qualifying times by 5 minutes this year so a BQ time should pretty much be good.I was looking at this today.

This is why it's highly probable I won't attempt another BQ in Spring. While I think practicing in the elements maximizes race day readiness my average winter always lends to the possibility you can't adequately train amidst it. I think the last few winters of heavier volume have led me to knowing what I can do to get the most out of running here, but navigating 70" of average snow fall just isn't feasible. It's probably a big reason why our local marathon isn't until mid-late May. Ran into this at Umstead. Spring is kind of a ##### because it's very likely that temps are going to be higher than anything you could have trained for unless you live south of the race site. You'r taper is going to fall into the window of any temps remotely close to race day. Even if you catch a warm day or rearrange your schedule to run midday, you still need several warm days to get any heat adaptation. That said, it's that way for for most everyone so you have a level playing field
It's a very well-organized process. 4 waves with a 15 minute gap (as I recall) between them. 8 corrals in each wave, and they're very tight about people getting into the right corral. You can drop to a slower corral, if desired, but not to corral 1 of a later wave (the most ideal positioning, because you get the least congestion for the first several miles). Once each wave starts, it's a steady flow ...no delay from one corral to the next.They must be really spacing the start groups apart...
I have thoughts, in my next Boston cycle, of traveling a couple hours south from Chicago on some weekends to get long runs in warmer climates. I can't explain why, but this thought never entered my mind. This is a great idea though. Thinking out loud, beyond the family timing issues I wonder if it's because if it's that bad here then if anything driving conditions will be even worse. But if it's just to get 50some degree temp's instead of 30something.
