And you did the hills too??? If so, those paces are bananas!
It was probably closer to 30 second hills than 45, but yes. I remembered that hill being longer. May try a different location next time, but apparently if I go another 10 seconds I have a strava segment. Hmm. Hellaciously fun regardless.

First 20 of the cycle is done.  Some good, some bad.  Goal was to cruise the first 15 at 7:35-7:45 pace, then drop down close to marathon pace and run the last 5 at 6:45-6:55.

Took me a couple of miles to warm up, but then I felt really good.  Lots of miles in the 7:15-7:30 range, and I was consciously holding myself back (but maybe not enough).  When I dropped down to sub-6:50 for the last segment, it felt harder than it should.  Clocked 6:48 for mile 16 but slowed to 6:51 for miles 17-18.  Much of mile 19 was a slight incline, and I only  managed 7:04.  Was able to get it together a little bit for the last mile at 7:01.  Averaged 6:55 for the last 5 miles, so while I technically did what I was supposed to do, I would've hoped/expected to be closer to the fast end of the prescribed range.  Not sure if I just ran that first part a little too fast or if all my life stressors just caught up with me.

Big idea that I'm starting to kick around in my head....skip Boston and instead run both the Prague Marathon on May 3 and the Lublin Marathon (my wife's hometown in Poland) on May 10.  I'd still run Carmel as my goal race, so both of these would be fun runs.  Thoughts?

If you skip Boston you could czech Prague off your list. That would be cool.

A run through Poland’s other sites would be a nice capper to a trip like that. Do it.

@gruecd A progression to marathon pace for the first 20-miler of the cycle sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.  Congrats on making it through with only a tiny reduction to plan.

Did the first NOBO AT* segment this morning going from Springer Mtn to Hightower Gap.  Some beautiful waterfalls and just a gorgeous day.  A little over 10 miles but forgot to start Strava back up so missed about .4 of a mile.  Only 1,421 feet elevation so not that bad really.  Hoping my legs feel good enough to get a run in tomorrow.

Tough run for me this morning.  Wanted to do a 18-mile progression but bailed after 16.  I have a lot of excuses but whatever.  It’s been a struggle for me this cycle even though I’ve felt much better the last few weeks.

I have a half marathon next weekend.  Forecast looks good...50s to low 60s.  PR won’t be in the cards but I feel reasonably confident I can keep under 6:30 pace.  That would be satisfactory for me at this point. I’m still not expecting all that much for the marathon in October but I’m pleased overall in my improvement in August.

123 miles in August with the last 2 weeks reduced to rest and recover my right leg I’ve been dragging along for awhile.  About 10 gym sessions and some PT does a body good I think/hope.

Felt most normal today in a while and with goal of adding another hour or so next week and test some strides to see how I’m feeling at weeks end to determine how to manage the SOS workouts to come.  One run at a time.  Ready for a new month.

Big stuff out there by yous guys in August. So inspiring.

I had such a nice run tonight.

Nothing special, nothing fast. Just a good, relaxing run.

Followed up with some Fin Du Monde beer.

Good night, gents.

One of my favorites although it’s been a few years since I’ve had one.
I had them here. You should have told me and I'd have cracked one open. I thought I showed them in the fridge.

Have you ever had their (Unibroue) Maudite?

Pretty sure it's the first time, at least since high school, that I've done back to back days of 10 miles. That was fun, kind of wish I had the time to do it more often.

I’ve said before I’m not sure if I’ll ever be a runner like most of you guys but if I do ever get there it will be because of days like today.

As mentioned I did a pretty long AT hike yesterday so was a little worried about my legs.  Woke up and legs felt pretty good but my back was a little stiff.  Wasn’t sure how long I’d go as I didn’t wanted push it - thought 3-5 when I started.  Set out to keep a comfortable pace and then get to 150 and see how my legs reacted.

I was a little stiff the first half mile but loosened up quick.  Picked the pace up and after a mile I saw I was under 11:00/mi.  Felt really good so keep pushing a little more.  Miles 2-5 were maybe the most comfortable running I’ve ever experienced - I didn’t push and HR moved between 140-150.  At mile 5 the sun starting heating things up a little and I could tell my legs were feeling a little heavy but instead of slowing down I started pushing the pace and got my HR up to 160.  Still feeling pretty comfortable until 6.5 miles when I said let’s see what we can do here.

Mile 7 - 9:47

Legs still feeling good ok so I put a GnR song on and just pushed the pace to an uncomfortable but maintainable pace

Mile 8 (and last) - 8:23

10:13 pace for the 8 - Now this is a slow day for most of you but I was :pickle:

For comparison I did this similar run two other times in the last 2 months.  First time was 12:33 pace and the other was a hot day rested at 10:43 pace.

Have a safe Labor Day guys!

Anyone who can run "comfortably" mile after mile is a runner.  Nice job!

Did have to stop at the gas station a little over two miles in for a pit stop, however..

Good luck on your spring 2020 half marathon

Managed to grunt out 4 Prairie Mountain repeats today, for the first time ever.

Slow pace, but the legs are still shot.  I only really planned for 3x but felt cocky and went for 4x.  Could do nothing more than walk it in at the end.  But still feel good for having accomplished something new.

After upload I discovered that there's a Strava Segment for the quad and I came in at 8th overall.  Pretty good, eh?

Until I saw that I'm 8th out of 8.   :bag:

Paging @JShare87 - what's the scene on the ground?  And the forecast?

Sending good thoughts your way!
Thanks! Getting a bit of rain and wind now. Really nothing different than the past 3 months it seems. The ground is so saturated here from all the rain. Going to head out for a run in the am (hopefully I have a nice tailwind), and then put up shutters on a few more windows. The track is looking pretty favorable for my area. Should see the worst of it tomorrow night and into Tuesday morning. They’re saying around 70-110 mph winds and that is without the center coming close to land. Hopefully the track stays the same. It just amazes me how they think this monster is just going to stop on a dime and turn directly north. Thanks for checking in. I’ll do my best to update throughout, Mr. President.

Headed to my favorite running spot at Red Top Mtn. - was meeting a buddy who is trying to lose a good amount of weight and can only walk.  This spot is a loop of 3.7 miles.  I told him I would run a lap and then walk one with him.  He was going to start close to 8 so I figured I’d start around 7:15 and then just walk most of his loop once I caught up to him.  I started at 7:16 and was doing a slowish warmup. About half a mile in I text him and tell him to let me know when he starts - like one minute later he texts me and said he just started.  Wth.

So, I had a rabbit (slowest rabbit ever) to chase.  I was somewhere around .75 miles when he started.  I was thinking I could catch him somewhere around mile 5-6 if I could do around 10 min miles.  Became a fun little game.

At my mile 4 mark I text him:

I’M COMING FOR YOU!!   phrasing

I finally caught him at 5.6 miles but at that point I was pot committed for finishing the 10k.  9:21/mi.  Walked the last 1.5 miles with him.

But now I’m thinking the running gods are messing with me.  I get a few miles down the road and the damn spare I just put on my car shredded and I had to get out and change a 2nd tire.  At Walmart tire center now getting a new spare.

Sounds great. I love chasing men around on top of a mountain....

Don't forget - draft at 8:00 pm Central time tonight. I have never been a commish on this draft tool, so apologies in advance if things don't go 100% smooth. I would just be ready a few minutes early, because once this starts I think you'll have 2 minutes to pick.

I will see once I get in there tonight to see if there is any flexibility there. I believe I will have opportunity to pause the draft, but I read somewhere you can only do this 5 or 6 times a draft. So just be prepared and lets hope things go smoothly.

See you all later!

Went to ****'s Sporting Goods this morning to grab some golf shoes. Wore my #BMF relay shirt.

Girl behind the counter: "Love your shirt. BMF huh."

Me: Yep. (laughing internally all the while.)

Just got my training schedule for the next 4 weeks from my coach.  This will be an important 4-week block.  Thought I'd share the doc just in case any of you were curious.  I'd be interested in your feedback.

I'll try to get there for the first couple picks, but can't stay on for the whole thing.  Will have to rely on autodraft.

The draft is always my weakness, anyway.  I do much better with in-season management.

When does the draft room open?  Would like to do some pre-ranking.

That is really cool. I was unaware of the detail and personalization that went into it. Sorry I can’t provide any feedback outside of it being pretty awesome. Really looking forward to your marathon.

Thanks for the read by the pool. Love the details not just on workout specifics/paces but also reminders like keep easy/recovery pace above x and the ‘why’ behind the plan as you work through it.  Mental and race prep stuff, the personalization and the thoughtfulness is really cool.  Appreciate the share.

Also like calling easy days glue days.

I’d go to Europe and run there.

I’ve run Boston two times and I think I’ll keep doing it if i qualify because i can drive to Boston and my hotel is free.  If i had to drop $2k every year, i wouldn’t do it.  There are other races and experiences to be had.
