I’ve said before I’m not sure if I’ll ever be a runner like most of you guys but if I do ever get there it will be because of days like today.
As mentioned I did a pretty long AT hike yesterday so was a little worried about my legs. Woke up and legs felt pretty good but my back was a little stiff. Wasn’t sure how long I’d go as I didn’t wanted push it - thought 3-5 when I started. Set out to keep a comfortable pace and then get to 150 and see how my legs reacted.
I was a little stiff the first half mile but loosened up quick. Picked the pace up and after a mile I saw I was under 11:00/mi. Felt really good so keep pushing a little more. Miles 2-5 were maybe the most comfortable running I’ve ever experienced - I didn’t push and HR moved between 140-150. At mile 5 the sun starting heating things up a little and I could tell my legs were feeling a little heavy but instead of slowing down I started pushing the pace and got my HR up to 160. Still feeling pretty comfortable until 6.5 miles when I said let’s see what we can do here.
Mile 7 - 9:47
Legs still feeling good ok so I put a GnR song on and just pushed the pace to an uncomfortable but maintainable pace
Mile 8 (and last) - 8:23
10:13 pace for the 8 - Now this is a slow day for most of you but I was
For comparison I did this similar run two other times in the last 2 months. First time was 12:33 pace and the other was a hot day rested at 10:43 pace.
Have a safe Labor Day guys!
