@gruecd, as you know, I've done a 40-day, 3-marathon extravaganza back in fall, 2013.  And as you might recall, I suddenly bonked hard at mile 19 of marathon #3. So my main advice is to be cautious about the lead-in to Lublin.  More than anything, you don't want to put Lublin at risk since you will not enjoy having a bad day when showcasing your talent across the pond.  As others suggest:

- skip Carmel

- run Boston.  Go easy over the first sixteen, and use the hills as training, followed by strong striding to the finish.

- skip Prague.   While the gang here will appreciate the accomplishment of multiple marathons over such a short period, the folks in Poland won't.  Most of them (like most civilians we encounter) are impressed enough with a marathon race.  Multiple marathons over a very short period won't really compute for them, so why bother?

- race Lublin for a strong time and a top finish.

Sounds almost identical to my recommendation!  :hifive:

Had an awesome morning on the trails today.  Started with me sitting in my car, in the dark, at the trailhead, lamenting how tired I was and maybe I should just drive home.

#### that.  I'm there already, so I got out.  Who cares if it's -17C (1F) and windy.

Got up Prairie Mountain in a not-PR, but respectable (for me), time.  Then turned around, and hauled-### down the mountain in PR time.  Back up the mountain, and had my fastest "same-day second ascent" time ever.  At the peak, I turn around and start running down, passing a couple community ultrarunners (who recognized me from the prior ascent) and I get a "Great job, man!" from them.  Getting in-person kudos from these badasses totally fires me up, and I'm determined to get back down fast and PR my "Prairie Double".

Which I did.  By 15 minutes.  /flex

Now I'm paying the price.  All good things in life must be offset by bad.  So I'm back home, on the couch, and the wife has "A Very Corgi Christmas" on TV.
Whenever I see one of your photos from the top of Prairie Mountain I get the urge to take an American flag up there...

...and then build a fort.

Maybe @ChiefD  could join me with some shovels.

Hopefully you can get some hearty Minnesotans or North Dakotans to man the fort.  Otherwise you'll have folks like @JShare87 wearing six layers of gloves & mittens and unable to even hold a shovel...

@gruecd, on the other hand, will be running shirtless around the rock pile.

Another vote for Salomon Speedcross 5s. I’ve gotten to the point where hiking boots are way too heavy for me so I wear these for most hikes (wore them hiking around outside of Sedona and Vegas this year).

Since we joked about racing to 185, I've proceeded to gain about 10 pounds back. The last couple of days I've weighed in just over 200 again.

🤢

But time to get serious again, imo.
I was just mentioning how my increased non-MAF mileage is making my appetite explode. It's not even holiday stuff because I haven't otherwise done anything different. I don't know where I'm at right now but it's been 193-195 lately.

That is where mine started. I hit a point in marathon training that I was just always hungry. Between my birthday rolling around and feeding that hunger close to the race, I started to slide a bit. Then after the race, the holidays appeared and I've just over indulged often.

Just need to go back to being deliberate about intake and get back to being more consistent with workouts. But I'm ready for both.

On the weight front, I’ve gained 10 lbs (to 179) in the 6-7 weeks since Indy.  I’m about 3 lbs off my all time high.  Admittedly, some is muscle as I’m lifting regularly again but some of it is definitely fat as I’m eating everything in sight and not running.

I’ll get back on track in January with my intake.

Echoing the same thing everyone else is. No desire to run, so I just don’t. Alcohol and food has been consumed at an alarming rate (showing no signs of stopping). The worst part is, it’s like summer around here again. 72 as the low with 100% humidity! Like a swamp around Christmas. Happy Holidays, fellas. Let’s keep eating, we’re on the 22nd mile of our marathon.

I know you all are right that there's no way I can be 100% for Lublin if I also run Prague (at any pace, really).  So now I'm trying to decide if I want to skip Prague or if I'd rather still do them both and be content with back-to-back 3:30 marathons or something.

Bunch of  :porked: s around here...

I lifted yesterday and then followed it up with a 10-mile run in the glorious spring-like weather.  Taking another half-day today and meeting my friend to run another 15.  Probably going to start an actual training plan for Boston soon.  Debating between Hansons and working with my coach again...or just re-using the same plan that he gave me for my last race.

I have absolutely zero desire to train for that spring half.

In a bad state of mind right now. Might need to buy a new shovel to make me feel better.

Blah.

Went hiking with a buddy of mine - nothing too strenuous and some good exercise on my off day.  Until, I fell about a mile from the car.  Took the mossy and somewhat rock for granted and bit it.  Landed on my right wrist and shoulder.  Shoulder seems ok but my wrist is hurting pretty good.  Legs are fine so shouldn't impact my running but hoping my wrist is just a sprain.

Easier to stomach than sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Prague while a bunch of marathoners run past me...
Wellll, you could wear a Boston shirt (to establish your cred) and head to km 40.5 as runners are coming up the slope as they exit the tunnel and 'strongly encourage' them to not walk up that slope and to DBAP with just a mile to go.  That'd help to motivate you, in turn, to RF:DBAP during the Lublin full effort.

Up to 185 here, about 1 lb more than last month.

Does anyone have venmo and PayPal? I definitely will pay triple threat, but I kind of don't want to establish a new payment account.

Was thinking I could PayPal someone the money, then person could pay triple threat thru venmo.

Me too?  I only have PayPal.

Sure, I can do that.

As long as you don't take limestone for granite, you should be alright.

Sorry for the dad joke but that was a layup. Hope the wrist is better soon.

Sucked out there this morning. One of those runs that makes you do one of two things. Get frustrated and not give a #### anymore. Or, get frustrated and work harder. I am usually the ladder, but I am in a rut right now. Since that seems to be the consensus around here at the moment, I’ll try and stay positive about it.

Since you are down I won't tease you about ladders....oops

With that weather and that HR, finishing the planned workout wouldn't have been smart and maybe even dangerous. You still completed quality while suffering.

Hold your head up. Things will turn around and you'll take yet another step forward. Watching you grind these runs out despite how you feel is pretty incredible.

I was thinking about you this morning as I was sitting here on my couch, debating to myself whether I would run today. I knew you were debating running today yourself and had been in a rut.

Believe me, I am also in a massive rut right now. Saw you got out there this morning and gutted out that 10 miles.

Stopped feeling sorry for myself and am lacing the shoes up right now to head out. So even if you don't feel good about it right now, at least take solace that your effort got another guy off his butt.

So, thank you.

I don't know why my watch sometimes doesn't start right away. I hit run and it like looks like it's working but it pauses and restarts. Why it looks like I didn't start at my house. It also paused mid run. Probably thought I was dying

Could use some feedback for my wife's training, if you guys don't mind.

I pulled up the calculator again after looking at all her race results this morning.  I think it's pretty accurate at various distances, so here goes.  I'm using this calculator here.

I put in a 10K time of 7:55 pace which is in the middle of races she's run.  Here's how things line up.

Calculator 5K time:  23:38 (7:36 pace).   Actual 5K PR (2019):  23:01 (7:24 pace)
Calculator 10K time:  49:16 (7:56 pace).  Actual 6 mile race (2018):  47:28 (7:54 pace)
Calculator 15K time:  1:15:43 (8:07 pace).  Actual 15K PR (2019):  1:14:36 (8:00 pace)
Calculator HM time:  1:48:41 (8:17 pace).  Actual HM PR (2019):  1:51:01 (8:28 pace)
Calculator Marathon:  3:46:47 (8:39 pace). Actual Marathon:  TBD

The accepted BQ times for her AG in 2020 were 3:48:21 (8:43 pace). (minimum standard is 3:50:00 for F45-49)

So.....

1)  She didn't really run her HM well this fall as she went out way too fast to start (first 5 miles were all in the 7:50's).  I KNOW she can go out and run an 8:15 HM at this point.  We are running the HM together in early March and that's going to be the goal.  Start at 8:15 and keep that for 10 miles and then speed up if she wants just to show she can do it.  I'm 100% confident she'll get that done, especially with her recent 15K.  Assuming she can do this, she'll be slightly ahead of all those calculator numbers above.

2)  Given that BQ time, is a goal time of 3:47:00 good (8:39 pace)?  Cutting it too close?  It seems like a reasonable time based on both the calculator as well as a small cushion for 2020 BQ time in case it adjusts even more.

3)  If so, should she train with 8:40 pace as her MP and stick with it no matter what since this is her 1st marathon?  Also, when she actually runs, does she start at that pace and hold on or actually start a little slower and plan to negative split since this is her 1st marathon?  She is NOT good at negative splitting which is why I want her to make sure she does it for our HM in March to at least practice doing so.

4)  She's planning on using Hanson's beginner marathon plan.   You guys know the long run for that is 16 miles but I really think, as you guys have pointed out to others, that she needs to do a longer long run(20 miles) just for the mental aspect.  If so, is now the time to do that or is it ok to incorporate during the Hanson's plan?  FWIW, we did those two 15 mile runs together back to back weeks a couple weeks ago and she nailed both of them without any difficulty (avg HR of 150 for both runs).  So, we are up for doing a 17 or 18 miler in the next couple of weeks as we start our HM cycle.

Open to thoughts/suggestions on any of the above.

It can take a bit of time for gps to synch. You want to turn it on but not hit start/ start running until it synchs.

I am a disgusting human being this week...and it's still just getting started.  I've lived off of cookies, coffee cake and prime rib the last few days.  Had stomach pains for most of my run and barely made it home before it all vacated.

Tomorrow I have my work holiday party with unlimited food and desserts at Brio.  Saturday is a late Christmas gathering at my parents (my youngest has been sick so it got pushed) where there will be a feast and more cookies/desserts, the Buckeyes game with my favorite pizza...and its my birthday.  There has been talk about ice cream cake, which is my favorite, but I dont know if I can fit all that in (basically  @gruecd and I are dealing with similar things).
Not that it’s saying much but I’m in easily the best running shape of my life and putting in more miles than ever and with the way I’ve been eating the last week and half I’m putting on weight - I feel gross.  I know I don’t have to drink all this beer but I’m going to.  January 2nd can’t get here fast enough for my weights sake.

Just ran 10.5 miles with 1k feet elevation - few thoughts:

- my wrist was still hurting this morning and I started feeling like #### with a cold last night - it was an accomplishment just getting out today

- I love the flip belt - works perfectly, wish I would have gotten it months ago

- as much as I love the flip belt I think I’m loving my compression socks even more.  Could be coincidence but my legs have felt great both during and after every run I’ve used them

- there’s been some discussion in here about running with someone - it just makes runs so much better most of the time (IMO).  I’m very envious of @gianmarco being able to run with his wife or any of you who have running partners

- I was really able to attack the hills the last couple of miles today - legs responding well

oh, and Gian, up yours!
