First he's using PEDs*, now this.####ing cheater.
Not trueMeh. It's NEVER 57° for Boston. Always hot AF anyway.![]()
That what what I really tried to convey to the RD afterwards. I knew I had a tight right turn coming in the park, but having never ran the actual race before there was no reason for me to believe it was not that one - especially because the 5K was making it at the same time.@MAC_32 - great 5.94 mile race report. Love the racing elements early on. Hard to believe they didn't better anticipate the potential challenges of the late integration of the lead 10K runners with the mid-5K runners. But, yeah ...know the course!
Same for me.Meh. It's NEVER 57° for Boston. Always hot AF anyway.![]()
Buddy with an "in" told me last night that it was gonna be either 9/14 or 9/21, so I made hotel reservations for both weekends. Got a room at a VERY nice hotel for $280/night, and today the website says that there are no rooms available.....probably until they update their system to jack up the rates.
Booked direct flight tickets from Milwaukee this morning, also at a pretty good price.
Capitalism, brotha.Same for me.
I heard they were eyeing September, so I made reservations for every weekend in September.
When I made my reservation, the Copley Marriott was $283/night. Once it was announced, the rooms were $799/night. Selfish greedy bastards.
Fine. It's always hot AF anyway WHENEVER I RUN IT.Not true
4 of the last 10 have had day time high's within 5 degrees of average, 2 have been below, and 4 above. Of those 4 only 1 of them was over the average Sep high of 73. To be fair, that one was 91 though.
So expect it to be 16 degrees hotter than hot AF.
Grue as he approaches Heartbreak
Can't believe you didn't get a dig in about not listening to music during a race.@MAC_32 - great 5.94 mile race report. Love the racing elements early on. @MAC_32 acknowledged it in his report, so I decided not to pile on.Can't believe you didn't get a dig in about not listening to music during a race.
I would have bet good money on that....
Thanks, what I'm most annoyed about is I have now run three 10K's - and none of them have been actual 10K's. I mean, this one was, but due to my #### up it wasn't. My previous two were 6.37 and 6.48 miles. I really just want to set a good PR benchmark, but maybe it just isn't meant to be.That's a really tough beat @MAC_32. In my boat, I can't control how many people are in my AG in any given race, so any AG medals are always a little bit luck. However, I can judge how I performed relative to my goals and that's always the part that I take more pride in. All that to say, you should take great satisfaction in your run and the time, regardless of the outcome.
At this point, I think you need to find another thread. This 10K thread isn't for you. Thanks, what I'm most annoyed about is I have now run three 10K's - and none of them have been actual 10K's. Amen.snow, cold, ice, heat, rain.. none of that bothers me.
but, this wind. this freaking 30+ mph wind... this can get bent. man is it miserable.
yep. it's circa 40 out there now. brilliantly sunny.. but the wind is just a wall. stepping out in a few to get some miles in. weighing my options regarding direction. given where i live it's going to be a run mostly directly in to the wind.Amen.
I kept telling my wife that and she's finally realized the wisdom.
Wind, then gray/no sun, then rain/snow, then cold in order of suckiness.
I'll run in 10 degrees with sun and no wind well before a 45 degree overcast windy day every single time.
OMG, that'd be the absolute worst. I mean, I'd totally be so done with him, know what I mean? Like, who does tha... wait a minute, wait a minute ...were you listening to music in the mile 5 race pic recently posted? If so, ignore everything I just said.Yeah, but what if he was listening to music AND heel striking?
My HR has been fairly consistently in the high 120's/low 130's on easy runs. Today in that wind? 143, one sustained gust was so bad I almost clipped 150.snow, cold, ice, heat, rain.. none of that bothers me.

It looks like every event over 500 people is getting postponed or cancelled.
Even our church has cancelled the next two weeks of services and youth group.
The oak barrel half (April 4) is limited to 1550 runners, so I'm guessing there's a really good chance that gets cancelled but maybe not as it's fairly small and we're a couple weeks out.![]()
I don't listen to music when I run anymore. That's so 2018.OMG, that'd be the absolute worst. I mean, I'd totally be so done with him, know what I mean? Audio books? Podcasts? Rain on rooftop white noise?I don't listen to music when I run anymore. That's so 2018.
Can you get the wifey to drive you somewhere east of home so you can run back with the wind? #protipyep. it's circa 40 out there now. brilliantly sunny.. but the wind is just a wall. stepping out in a few to get some miles in. weighing my options regarding direction. given where i live it's going to be a run mostly directly in to the wind.
c'est la vie. no excuses!
I was given the option to still run the race tomorrow or defer to next year with no additional fees. I'm in eddyville KY as I type this.Looks like I have defer (yeah prob have to pay again) or virtual run which is WTF to me. So I defer and hope to see next year.

ooh, filing that one away for the future. good idea.gruecd said:Can you get the wifey to drive you somewhere east of home so you can run back with the wind? #protip
Everyone has different motivations, and you are in a total different class than me, but if I take that kind of attitude, I'd end up as a fat, lazy slob sitting on my couch again. I don't want that and since you are one of the people that keeps me motivated not to do that, get you butt out there and be a good example!Trying to think of any reason why I should do any kind of long run tomorrow. Seems kinda pointless given 6 months now til my next marathon...
If you really want to get better than you must immediately find your want-to so you can take advantage of these couple months.Trying to think of any reason why I should do any kind of long run tomorrow. Seems kinda pointless given 6 months now til my next marathon...
Oh, ok, I’ll just go find it then...If you really want to get better than you must immediately find your want-to so you can take advantage of these couple months.
I’ll give you a reason. Because you’re physically able to.Trying to think of any reason why I should do any kind of long run tomorrow. Seems kinda pointless given 6 months now til my next marathon...
I get that. Right now is a great opportunity to take advantage of an actual offseason, whether that's to rest or test your limits. Either way will require change and you to take a step out of your comfort zone. But ultimately it's on you to decide what to do.Oh, ok, I’ll just go find it then...![]()

Right there with you, except it's a full year and a half marathon.hours ago, gruecd said:

Hopefully you had your wifey drop you off in Funktown so you could do a long, relaxing run home.Trying to think of any reason why I should do any kind of long run tomorrow. Seems kinda pointless given 6 months now til my next marathon...
You ultra guys are nuts! That 23k may have been more work than the marathon. Whew.
