Ran a 10k - Official Thread (4 Viewers)

We're not allowed to park at the trailheads and I have been busy with quarter end so can't get out for a run long enough to run to the trails, so today was day two of running on roads around the house.  Even ordered another pair of road shoes today.  It's like I don't even know who I am anymore......
Is it as bad as you thought it would be?

Worse.  There are cars and people and stuff. The ground is really hard.  And flat.  Not much in the way of wildlife.  Worst of all, the views suck.

But I'll make do.  Don't want to let down Team Juxt any more than expected.
I get decent wildlife in the suburbs. Cars suck. So do dogs. People are hit and miss.

Well, partial success.

The knee bra helped a little, I think. I think it stabilized it enough to keep it from worsening too much. I made it pretty tight at one point and it helped a little more but not enough to eliminate it. Just helped confirm that's likely what it is.

Good news is it wasn't that bad at all today and didn't feel it until close to a mile. Considering what it was like yesterday, I'm really thankful for that. I had no pain all day today either.  I'm positive a week off will get this right.

If any of you see me post a run this week, please let me know how big of an idiot I am.
Its not like putting a titanium rod in your leg. It’s more like wearing a cup before the ball smashes your mass and they swell up.

Summit get a chance for some road action?

She took the COVID test this morning, we'll see how long it takes for the results. She isn't in too much discomfort, but it worries me that she was having some difficulty breathing.
gl.

fwiw- my mom sent a video from NYC er doctor (from March 22) on the front lines of this here- who said that it's time to go to the hospital when you have shortness of breath. not the fever, not the coughing, not the sore throat. all of those can/might pass. it's the shortness of breath that tells him it's hospital time.  (I can link the video if you want). hoping it's unnecessary and not trying to scare- just passing on info I've just heard.

I'm glad she got tested.  I'm sure the not knowing for 100% sure adds to the stress.

Not yet.  In the mornings I've been walking over to empty parks, school fields, etc and letting him off leash for a bit.

I'll probably try taking him on some road runs, but with all the people out walking their dogs at all hours it's going to be a challenge as he wants to stop and try and play with every one we pass, which obviously isn't happening right about now.

I think this weekend I may walk him the 2 miles to the nearest trail head to work out all his smell and pee on everything needs, run with him for a few miles, then run/walk back.

@SayWhat?, dammit.  #seeyouinsquaw2021

To the Western States Community:

Due to the continuing public health threat of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Board of Trustees for the Western States Endurance Run has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Western States Endurance Run. In accordance with this decision, we are offering an entry spot for the 2021 race to all runners entered in this year’s race and a wait list spot on the 2021 wait list to all people on this year’s wait list. The 2020 Memorial Day training runs are cancelled and all registrations for those events will roll over to the 2021 Memorial Day training runs. More details on entry and registration for 2021 events will be provided later.

We have made the decision to cancel after careful deliberation, knowing that our foremost responsibility is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our 2020 entrants, our volunteers, our broader running community, and society at large. The current situation in the United States and throughout the world is one of disruption and uncertainty. We feel that moving forward with plans for a race in June is not aligned with what our government, medical experts, and society is asking us to do. While painful to do knowing the hopes and dreams that surround this event, we feel it is the responsible action to take in light of what is going on in the world around us.

We took into consideration the following in making our decision to cancel:

  • We considered our social responsibility in this global crisis to not continue to foster an environment where the training needs of our entrants are in direct conflict with current shelter in place rules in the U.S. and abroad.
  • With more travel bans, shelter in place rules, and lock downs, it seems increasingly unlikely that people from around the world will be able to assemble in Squaw Valley on the weekend of June 27.
  • We determined that we will not be able to secure all the necessary permits and approvals in time to postpone the race until the fall.
  • We took into consideration how disruptive this pandemic has been—its financial impact, work and job stress, family and health concerns, kids at home—making it difficult or impossible for many to focus on training for Western States.
By making this difficult decision to cancel the race now, we hope to relieve some of the pressure people are feeling during this time of stress and uncertainty. We also hope that having an entry secured for 2021 offsets some of the disappointment about not being able to run the race this year and creates a brighter light for the future.

We thank you for your patience and kindness during this difficult period. We hope you all remain safe and healthy and we look forward to gathering with you in Squaw Valley in June 2021.
That last bullet is probably true for so many, and in some ways this might be a relief knowing the race is off and you're still in for the next year.

Obviously they don't say anything about lottery qualification.  But with no lottery this year I'm sure they won't require that a qualifier be run to not lose your accumulated ticket count.

Thanks Duck.  It’s sucks for many many people, I am quite sure of it. Especially those looking to get in next year.

But literally two hours ago I was telling my wife that with workload at my job, financial stress, training for WSER, more responsibility with kids at home all the time, house projects, etc, that something needed to give.  And I was hoping that something would be a WSER postponement to fall or 2021.  This now allows me a full, stress-free, build up to next summer where I can build a safe base and try to mitigate chances of a rhabdo recurrence.

So I’m good with this.  See you next summer!

Also had a phone consult with a gall bladder specialist yesterday.  He’s not  recommending gall bladder removal at this stage.  The plan is to monitor how I feel for a few more months, which I’m quite pleased about.

Have a good weekend all.  Be well and as safe as can be.

#### it's starting to get hot.  Hit 150SI during my run.

Decided I'd go ahead and run, did 8x quarters. Better than a couple days ago. But holy hell, I'd forgotten how much I hate the heat.

And it's only March! 🥵

correct. 125 today.  i'm going to start adding to the 50's until i hit 100.  the 50's aren't toooo bad.  the last 10 of the 2nd 50 today, were hard.
Outstanding. I always find maintaining form gets hard at that point.

33/34/33 for me today.

Your push up club is so 2 months ago

I've been doing them daily since mid January, based on something @belljr said in the fat boy thread.  I've been knocking out 3 sets of 55-60.

(Side note, I still dont look buff and I've been regressing on my running fitness.  You've been warned  :sadbanana: )

i'm a spazz about form.  i work out with light weights, to ensure proper form is always maintained.  i was going to see if i could do 100 in one shot, right out of the gate.  but it starting getting harder around 50, and i've learned, the hard way, to go slow.   i could probably do it, but why?  like mac trying to keep me from hurting myself, from running too fast.  it's not worth the risk of injury.

It's important to change the strength training regimen at least every 6-8 weeks. The body adapts. So while you're doing more push ups you're not getting stronger. Your body has just adapted to the movement. Just time to change things up!

@JAA is showing some serious speed today

@El Floppo steal of draft according to all

@SFBayDuck is getting familiar with streets.

For Team Juxt, no surgeries and no did-not-run-injureds.

Things are progressing nicely.
That team is peaking. TeamGrue had a minor set back for a major comeback. We’re about to be on the up-and-up. When this train gets moving, it can’t be stopped.

Choo choo!!

Heading to the local ski hills for some 1M/5K/10K training.  You’ve been warned #teamjuxtasecondplacefinish.

Ha - yes.  I'm really not doing it for any specific reason other than being consistent and doing something.  I'm finding one of the biggest benefits of doing the push ups is that it stretches my feet out...which are pretty high arched and need some attention.

Awesome.

We still can't get a test around here unless you're on the verge of heading to the ER or famous.
I think we might have been fast tracked since my wife is a nurse at CHOP. My wife has been able to work from home since I got sick as a precaution, but since some of the nurses on her team have been exposed my wife has been asked to see some patients. She works in home care.

Strava stuff I'm just noticing now - why is it my activity only shows in one club? I'm in a bunch, never looked at another club until today (I'm a loyal guy, my wife appreciates that part of me).

I see you in the 2 that we are in together that I know of.

I got a late start, it was about 70 when I went out. I liked it but the cool, not cold, rain off and on was nice until the thunder and lightning rolled in toward the end.

For the record, I'm all on board with the idea that training in the warmth pays nothing but dividends when the temps finally come back down again in the fall.

However, while on my run today, I was thinking about how much to worry about my HR now. It's definitely elevated from where it would be if it were 35 instead of 70 but I was never working hard or breathing heavy or any thing like that.

Still relying on "just shut up and run already"... but with more of the shutting up and hopefully back to more of the running after a little of period lately with the hip, hamstring and ankle. I feel back to normal at this point - normal being a relative term and all.
