If you ever add "how to raise kids" let me know.Would you believe that I don't know how to play?![]()
Add it to the list of things that I'd like to learn how to do along with learning Polish, learning to play guitar, learn how to finish a basement....
That’s more like 80s and 100% humidity. What a perfect day for running. Upper 60s, 33% humidity. It's almost like summers in Wisconsin.![]()

Age group monetary awards?I’m kinda intrigued by these “last man standing” events. This one is new this year and relatively close to me. I feel like I could run 4.2mph for a long time...
( @SFBayDuck and @SayWhat? "belt buckle awards?"
) The porta-potty lines between segments have gotta be ugly, though.I’m seriously leaning towards signing up. I’m kinda excited by the idea of doing something new/different. If I do, this will become my “A” goal for the fall, as I’d wanna try to win the SOB. I’d likely still be a little “compromised” for Indy a month later.Age group monetary awards?( @SFBayDuck and @SayWhat? "belt buckle awards?"

Do whatever you want.I learned yesterday that the track I intended to run on is closed so I started mapping out courses. I know there were discussions about what kind of courses are allowed, but I forget what the final decision was on what's acceptable. Would something like this course work, or are we supposed to start and finish in roughly the same area? This course would give me an opportunity to take down the "Run by God School" segment which has 1,181 attempts by 67 people and I have run it 841 times.
Preliminary 5k race time for me is Saturday 4/18 at 7:00 AM.
My plan is to wait for the wind forecast and then pick a with-the-wind, net downhill, point-to-point course.I learned yesterday that the track I intended to run on is closed so I started mapping out courses. It's tornado season here in KC. I'm gonna wait for a tornado, net downhill, point-to-point course. My plan is to wait for the wind forecast and then pick a with-the-wind, net downhill, point-to-point course.

We don't go to our basements until we take plenty of pictures and video.Whoa, be careful. Why are you even on your computer?
Just dawned on me that we're within the long term forecast range! I have a wind from the SW right now. I'd have some decent options with that. Any chance the police would block off some busy streets for me?![]()
I'm not going to think about what particular day & time until at least Tuesday.
Under consideration but I counter this as after the team mile. And I don’t think I have track access. So I’d probably stash beers along my trail and record myself. For consideration
I will be running my 1mi event on a track. Actually, I will be running my 5k also on the track and pray that I dont have to run my 10k on the track. But I digress ...
If there is anyone on #teamlosing, sorry I mean #teamgrue, that is choosing to run their 1mi event on a track, I would like to formally BMF CHALLENGE you to enhance your 1mi event to a beer mile.
I would in-fact record my beer mile and distribute it (stays here) for posterity.
Just cough a lot, that will set least get pedestrians out of the way.Just dawned on me that we're within the long term forecast range! I have a wind from the SW right now. I'd have some decent options with that. Any chance the police would block off some busy streets for me?
Avoiding busy streets and avoiding other people makes this kind of challenging for me. I've ruled out running on a trail and heavy breathing near others so it takes away a lot of options. I am choosing to do it early on a weekend in hopes of being able to cross the one busy road without stopping. Long term forecast is ideal, 39 with 4 mph wind.Just dawned on me that we're within the long term forecast range! I have a wind from the SW right now. I'd have some decent options with that. Rain both days here, temps in the 40s Saturday morning. "Winds light and variable" but also 5-7mph, NNE (does that mean from NNE or pushing towards NNE?)Just dawned on me that we're within the long term forecast range! I have a wind from the SW right now.
Yes, I might have to make some traffic related impromptu alterations.Avoiding busy streets and avoiding other people makes this kind of challenging for me. The good thing here is you can't take a wrong turn!Yes, I might have to make some traffic related impromptu alterations.
I’m thinking first light warmup early for sure to avoid people, traffic and maybe even wind. I’m going to take the mostly even to downhill chunk of my usual trail to hills route, not turn around and finish down the shoulder of a pretty busy road. I don’t think I’ll cross, will stay on right with traffic I think for .5 miles to finish.Avoiding busy streets and avoiding other people makes this kind of challenging for me. It looks like you have been successfully replaced as the training partner. Better find a new hobby.Might as well post some updates from here.
My wife took our 4 year old out running with her the last couple of days as she's been asking to. Now, my 7 year old has gone running with her a couple times and gotten a mile done. However, in her classic nutty way, she doesn't run conventionally. She'll sprint for a bit until she can't anymore, then slow way down, then sprint again. The concept of even pacing for her is foreign.
My 4 year old, on the other hand, ran an evenly paced 1/2 mile with her yesterday at a sub 11 min pace. And she loved it.....

For a small 5k, yes. Bigger 5k or longer race, no. I think 1 runner 5k meets my requirement. Are you always in the front row?

I’m gonna drive to Chicago and run loops around your house, flipping you off with each pass.I'm assuming everyone is using a GoPro and all results can be verified through video and Strava.

So you are more than welcome to film that.

Even with the wind issue, I find that the track tends to be 10-15 sec/mile faster due to the springier surface and no short-stepping caused be turns/curbs/etc. For track miles, I start on the outside lane and work in. That eliminates the counting and builds a bit of extra mileage that cuts down the last lap ( @JAA, I think you were cautious about doing the 10K on the track, but breaking it into these 8-loop sequences makes the time go by rather painlessly, although I probably just made @SFBayDuck throw up a little in his mouth).Early forecast for my area are good temps but a lot of wind. I had been tentatively planning on the track I mentioned earlier, but I'd have to scout it for openness and lack of crowds, and if it's going to be windy I might just stay on my normal streets. Forecast is for a west wind, which in my head I thought would be the easiest to find a favorable course, but it's amazing how difficult it is to find 3 miles in one direction without either big hills or fairly major streets to cross.
