I have. A few times. Sucks, but injuries and life happen.. On the other hand, I've never missed a race start that I signed up for, so I have a measure of pride to keep that streak alive.

If you're not staying up drinking, maybe you could become an early morning runner.Just got some bad news. :(

Just left my appointment. Doctor said, you’re good to go! Knee looks strong, start slow. We talked for about 15 minutes and he answered all my questions. He seemed to be extremely knowledgeable and really understood my lifestyle. It’s nice to have a doctor that seems to genuinely care. A little bit of bad news, we locked eyes at the end, he extended his bare hand with a smile on his maskless face. I couldn’t help myself, I extended and we embraced in the most solid handshake I’ve had in all my 33 years. So, I start running tomorrow, but I may have that Rona. Absolutely giddy to complete my 1-2 miles in the morning. Leggggo TeamGrue!
Wow. Between that and Oktoberfest already cancelled I do wonder if I should even be training for Paris in October at all! Jeez...Berlin canceled. This can't bode well for Boston.
Yeah, here's the link for anyone who can read German (or can click the "translate" button): https://www.nau.ch/sport/leichtathletik/berlin-marathon-muss-in-diesem-jahr-ausfallen-65696353Wow. Generally speaking, if a race being cancelled will negatively influence you I would not train with that particular race in mind. I get it - having that carrot out there helps get us out the door each day. But try to make shorter term goals instead. It's why I think this race series was such a great idea.Wow. I agree with this and also agree that the race series was a good idea for the short-term goals.Generally speaking, if a race being cancelled will negatively influence you I would not train with that particular race in mind. I totally relate - exactly where I was about 4-6 weeks ago. Been training since August specifically with a May sub-3/BQ attempt in mind. I had only done one 20 miler, but had done 15 between 15 and 18 miles. I've done some venting about adapting to WFH life with three small humans age 4-9, but in a bass ackwards sorta way that distraction played a big role in that March realization not hitting me as hard as it may have otherwise. I was just too busy to really think about it, so I couldn't be bummed about it.I agree with this and also agree that the race series was a good idea for the short-term goals.
Was exaggerating a wee-bit but would definitely be a bit bummed if I targeted sub-3 and put in seven or eight 20+ mile long runs for Paris to be cancelled. Even if it was though, I think at that point I would make some minor adjustments to the schedule and do my damndest to travel to another race within plus/minus a couple weeks.
Gonna lose a lot of sleep on that one, that's for sure.I'm sure it would have quite an impact. If the '20 qualifiers roll over - which only seems fair to them - what percentage would still go? A high percent, I expect. But then you get the oddity of people shifting up to new AGs ...and runners (like me) who have already got our qualifier for '21.A "benefit," I suppose, to all these cancelled races is that it limits the number of new qualifiers for '21. If '21 is heavily filled with the '20 qualifiers, there won't be much room for new entrants anyway.
So @Brony, if you overrun your 10K, too ...don't get your hopes up.
:(Dear Mississippi Running Festival Teams:
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the cancellation of the Mississippi Running Festival. This was an event born out of necessity last spring during catastrophic flooding in our area, but bringing it to life was one of the most inspiring and community building things we have done at GO! St. Louis. That makes it even more difficult for me to have to regretfully cancel this year’s event.
I know we all hoped that by late May and early June that we would be out of the woods, but we now know that is not the case. In addition, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will remain closed past our event date. And finally, it is the smart decision to place safety first and avoid gathering with an event of this size (because we all know this event was about FUN and GATHERING!).
Because we are able to cancel this event prior to any planning or purchasing, we are pleased to be able to offer all teams a 100% refund (please allow 2 weeks for processing of refunds). In return, my request for you is simple: please consider coming back next year and supporting this event, telling your friends, and bringing more running friends with you, so that we can all keep the local running community going strong! Small organizations like ours have been hit hard, but we want to continue to provide you with quality, local events for years to come.
You have all my thanks for continuing to be a part of our community. Keep running, keep moving forward, and I very much look forward to the day when we can all run again together!
With thanks,
Bummer.

Agree. I wasn't sure getting on a plane in 5 weeks was what I (or my wife) really wanted to do anyway.Zasada said:In.
This year I was going to have to drop out anyway, given that my top priority is to spend time with my wife once travel restrictions are lifted. Wouldn't make sense to spend a weekend with some of the coolest dudes on the internet in an epic display of BMFery, unfortunately, when my wife has been taking care of the house and fur-family exclusively in my absence.
But sign me up for next year.
FWIW, all the airlines have waived change fees through the end of the year, so you can book now (get a cheap fare) and change later if the races don't happen. On another note, I'm signed up for Boston and Chicago this fall and I'm really thinking neither of them will happen. I'll wait on booking flights to Chicago until we see how the world comes out of this.

Part of me is so aggravated that I didn't figure this out sooner. And I hope I didn't set myself back too far to get ready for this marathon that may or may not happen.
But there's something to be said for a full reset, so let's go with it. So glad @JShare87 about to join me back out there. Let's do this.

I knew this was coming but it still bums me out - like a lot.gianmarco said:
My training plan is the same as it was on Jan 1. No injuries.gruecd said:Also, is anybody else really struggling to formulate a training plan for this fall given all the uncertainty out there? I’m extremely schedule-driven, so maybe it’s worse for me than others. Like do I even bother focusing on Boston in September knowing it’s probably 50/50 at best? Do I focus on the Last Man Standing event in early October or Monumental in November? Is one more likely to happen than the other? Do I try to cobble together a plan that will somehow get me ready for both?
I swear if I had awesome hair like @JShare87 or @bushdocda I’d be pulling it out right now!
This.... well, now I’m running more and swimming much much much less :( :( :(
Understatement deluxe.This.
Funny, I was talking with my wife on our walk last night, about how I have almost no desire to race right now but I really miss the gym and pool. But at the same time I have no doubt that when I'm at the next race, I'll throughly enjoy it.
Agree! That’s why I run, to continue chasing the highs I’ve felt during it. They may be few and far between, but when they come, they’re amazing. So hot this morning. Almost took my shirt off a few KM in. But thought better of it.
While my muscles are still feeling the pain from Saturday, my mind is still reaping the rewards. Both yesterday and today when I crossed the "start line" of my 5K, I smiled and gave myself a few mental pats on the back.
In golf, I don't remember the 17 tee shots I sliced into the woods, I remember the one that went down the middle of the fairway. That's the one that keeps me coming back. Saturday's race is having the same effect. Many thanks to you guys.
I read online that "streaks" only require a one mile run. I subscribe to that.I'm going to be smart about it, but I don't know if I'm coming down with something - or just ate too much bad food yesterday. I'm on a 46 day streak and have a new record (50) in my sights, so I really just hope a half dozen tacos yesterday was a bad decision.

The area bathrooms don't unlock until May 1. Unfortunately I had to find that one out the hard way a few years ago. By my count the nearest porto potties are about 3 miles away in 3 different directions. He could free himself of those tacos a few miles in, and feel much better! Give it a try, @MAC_32!
Never forget the basics.I'm a 3drinkmile minimum subscriber. There is one 2 mile day wedged in there though. Also due to a stomach ailment. So I'm also a subscriber to not following rules. I guess this is why I cheat while racing.

That site sucks. There is an online chat option but the company never has anyone available to answer questions in times of need.

It's that lack of attention to detail that keeps me from being an elite runner.Did anyone else try to click on the location links and end up disappointed? I was expecting on location photos of ChiefD doing the deed.
I just ran in snow.Haven't had any weather complaints here in a while. Anybody else sick of the wind? I feel like we've had 20+mph gusts here every day for the last week.![]()
I'm waiting until it rains later today. Love to run in the rain - keeps me focused on the goal.Haven't had any weather complaints here in a while. Anybody else sick of the wind? I feel like we've had 20+mph gusts here every day for the last week.![]()
It would probably annoy me in April, but in general as long as accumulations are under an inch or so, I actually enjoy running in snow. I find it very zen, especially if it's not a particularly windy day. It's one of the few times I will consider forgoing music.I just ran in snow.
100%. Awful lately.Haven't had any weather complaints here in a while. Anybody else sick of the wind? I feel like we've had 20+mph gusts here every day for the last week.![]()
The bolded. Last week was actual accumulation while this was just flurries, but I still couldn't help but laugh. Locals are preparing us for more before the month is over too. I love winter snow running, but spring snow running can go #### itself. It would probably annoy me in April, but in general as long as accumulations are under an inch or so, I actually enjoy running in snow.
