Chief, what was your projection?  JShare, what's your updated number?  Captains, what do you expect?  Any other adjustments prior to launch?
Let me ask the group...

I had a 10k time a couple weeks ago- filtering out my typically slower 1st mile of around 48:00. My hamstring hasn't allowed me to go much faster than 8:10/s since then (slower yesterday) which is somewhere around 51:00.

I'm going to go out and run 10k, likely Sunday given local weather, at a pace my hamstring can handle without pushing and risking injury.

What's the call/play here? Just count my upcoming time relative to a new projected time of 51:45? Or use that 48+ relative to the originally projected 47?

You can't use the 48:00 because it wasn't during the designated race window (today though Sunday).  If you want to skip since your injury won't allow you to truly race it, that's understandable and probably wise.  But if you want to give it a go, that's fine too.

I think that was ruled out when it was decided that Mrs. Gianmarco would be the deciding runner during the 5K.
I know we'd progressed from allowing a new attempt to: If you make another attempt, then you live with it good or bad.  But then the Sunday dynamic came down to Harris, APK, and Mrs. Gian, and we determined it was a fitting conclusion.

If someone isn't liking their pace, they can stop it short or just not label it as their race attempt.

Thanks, for the first time in my life I had to stop and tie my shoe during a race.  It wasn't my day.
I know you've mainly focused on base training since taking off so much time during your illness.  I think you're probably about a month away to being in race shape.  Just from checking every now and again, I've noticed your heart rate is still a bit high.  Undoubtedly you'll get there. At a minimum, this was a good hard tempo.

A hard 10k is a destroyer of souls. No way would I want to re-run one within the span of a month, let alone two days.

Before I recalled the Sunday dynamic @tri-man 47 mentioned this was my first thought: why the #### would anyone want to put themselves through this misery twice in 4 days. But then i remembered it was the madman @BassNBrew making the inquiry and it all made sense. Probably wants to experiment with elijah craig as fueling one day and tullamore dew on take 2.

Sounds fair.

So let's put 51:45 as target time. Won't really be "racing" but running at a pace that I don't think will further injure the leg.

Here's an updated list (holding off on pbm's still-super-fast actual for the moment):

From some quick calcs, TeamGrue has an edge based on the projections.

I thought @BassNBrew submitted a 5K time?
I don't think it was intentional, but the story had a better ending with Mrs. Gian. We didn't think BnB was racing so Sunday was all about Harris, Michael J Fox, and a wonderful woman who has probably grown to despise zoom. Her finish was how we all decided that story would end. He came in and logged his run sometime later that day, but that chapter of this tale had already been sent to the publisher.

You'd projected 30:00, but you and the equally steady @SFBayDuck didn't run an official 5K.  I put the actul 5Ks in as a comparison to the projected 10Ks.

I ended up running it that Sunday.  Gave Team Jux a win by about 5 minutes.

Got it - "When the legend becomes truth, print the legend"

:lmao:

I may give it a go this afternoon and decide if I want to stand on that time or give it another go on Sunday.

It was way wrong. In reality U know I was at165-175. Bummed that it didn’t work as it would have been good days go have.

53:12.

ETA: Suck it, Team Grue.
Nice job.

So if I run today and take the number, this contest is basically over with a win for team Jux.  No way the rest of the gang is making up 23 minutes.

eta - I guess on the plus side, it means the rest of you guys can just cruise.

Unless you're injured and would be risking further damage by running, you should run.

I think that's jumping the gun a bit.  There are a lot of people slated to run that have very little 10K racing experience.  Between that and the timing of this race to intersect with the first real warm temperatures of the year for a lot of folks, I think we're going to see a lot of variation between predictions and actuals.  If you get a few folks 3-4 minutes over target on one side, some overperformance (or sandbagging) on the other, who knows...

There are some...**ahem**...conservative. Very, very conservative 'projections' on the Team Grue side of things. This 4 day long steel cage match is gonna be a bloody one.

I wouldn't say that.  I expect bushdocta, SayWhat?, and Chief bring in much better times than projected (based on their 5K/10K ranges) for TeamGrue.

Not sure on this assumption my friend.  :sadbanana:

No bueno on any abdominal pain improvement for me over the last 72 hours.  I’ve got something going on there that’s at the point of some concern.  If I give it a go, I can’t imagine it’s prior to Sunday.  And fitness has not been aplenty over the last couple weeks.  We’ll see.
