Congrats @xulf can’t wait to read the race report
Not to spoil it for him or anything but it should include something along the lines of "the wind can kiss my ***“... I can't imagine what the back half of that course was like today. Wind was just stupid crazy at times.
We were done, standing in the finish area and swear the wind picked up a **** load. The marathon had to be brutal.

Yeah, it wasn't bad when I was out there other than a couple of gusta but almost as soon as I finished, it picked up big time.

For the record, I was about 2:13. Nothing to right home about, just needed the Y to spell INDY, which the standard metal didn't have for some reason. I had to go find it afterwards.
Yeah, my sister, BIL and their friends all had to stand in the other line. Really cool concept for 4 in a row. Did you buy the square holder?

Great job everyone on what seems to be a brutal day for running.

Such consistent miles for the first 22 miles for Xulf and Grue. You can feel the wind effects in those last few miles. Ugh

Hey guys! I’ll write more later, but it was a great day out there today. Other guys might disagree, but I honestly didn’t think the weather was that bad. Wind was really only a major issue for a mile or two around 20-21; the buildings seemed to help on that last 2-3 mile stretch. The warmth and humidity was probably the worst part.

I intentionally banked time in the first half with the wind at our backs and ended up not really needing it. Could’ve finished around 3:27-3:28, but I ended up sending most of my group with 1-1.5 miles to go and then just kinda ran around trying to corral any stragglers I could find. I had a really great group, and they were super appreciative (not at all whiny like my boy @gianmarco). Lots of hugs and high-fives afterwards. Super rewarding.

Awesome job to get out there and do it. I tried to find your bib# on the app to track but your name wouldn't come up.

Wow what a kick *** day for everybody. Great la-di-da pacing, @gruecd! @Juxtatarot "mailed-in" a sub-19 5K for a 4th-overall finish . @xulf knocking out the full in a great (if disappointing) time -- but still a rockin PR. @tri-man 47 with a "no legs" AG win in the same 5K as Juxt. @The Iguana and his no-training HM. @gianmarco managed to figure out race tracking for the first time!

And then a bunch of great training runs out there as well.

Epic la-di-da material for @ChiefD!

Well la-di-da mr. cheesehead just goes out for a stroll in the park during a rainy and tornado like windy saturday and just brings his flock in at a cool 3:29:12 so they could all achieve their goals and pay homage to his gloriousness as they cross the finish line with a great story to tell of how they crushed it on a terrible day of running........

Well - that was an experience.

I went into this knowing the conditions were not ideal, but we got a huge reprieve by the rain holding off other than some light stuff.

I didn't train for 16 weeks to back off my time (like I had to last year with getting covid), so I went for it, hoping it would work out. It did not.

Got 20 miles at my goal pace, but as @gruecd said, 20 and 21 were wthe worst. I started falling back a bit from the 320 pacer and found myself on an island taking the full brunt of the wind and the 40+ mph gusts. There was nowhere to hide.

My effort felt the same as what I had been doing all day, but the time just kept increasing. I made it to 24 still "running", but had absolutely nothing left in my legs.

Tough time to take based on my goal, but I don't know if another approach would have been too much different. I wanted to give it a try and don't regret that at all. It just wasn't in the cards.

I'll do a race report later.

Glad to have spent some time with @The Iguana and briefly meeting @gruecd

I did buy the square holder but I did so the year the world shut down... They are suppose to be shipping me mine but they said that last year to. I have the email of a person this time, however do I'm hoping I actually get it now.

I did just upload a picture of the 4 together on Strava. Near idea, imo. Not sure why the Y want the standard metal like the previous 3. That was weird.

Sister says the regular medal was due to the 15th anniversary. Y was only for those who ran the 4

Nice work fellas!

Mad props to @gruecd as carrying a sign in the wind sucks. I’m glad the banking time with tailwind paid off well with your group.

@xulf - love your attitude! You decided to go for it and although you didn’t hit your goal, I respect you left it all out on the course. Sometimes, your current post race feeling is better than knowing you didn’t go hard and still had a fuel in the tank.

@The Iguana - crazy you ran that on so little training,

@Juxtatarot - your speed is really extraordinary. Fun to see you are on your way back.

@tri-man 47 - I want to be you when I grow up. Your consistency (and medal mongering) is inspiring.

My bib tomorrow is #7155. I think all tracking is through the TCS NYC Marathon app. Goal is 3:39:30. Going to be a hot one with high temps supposed to be 75°. The key is the sun and whether it comes out.

I’m starting around 9:50 am ET, and hopefully cross the finish at 1:30 pm ET.

Pros start just before 9 am if you want to watch on ESPN2. Pretty sure ESPN2 won’t focus on the 3:40 pace group.

Couple AG wins for @Juxtatarot and me. Juxt had nice speed; I was plodding along today. But we got ‘er done.
Congrats you medal monger! Was this cantigny?
Yes, Cantigny. Juxt and I didn't care much for the course. Over half of it was on paved cart paths for the golf course. But those paths can be somewhat choppy ...hard to establish any sort of rhythm. Lots of turns, too. And then the wind, which was in our face for most of mile 2 and then quite a cross-wind for much of mile 3. Despite the dark, cloudy day, I wore sunglasses just to keep the wind out of my eyes.

Hey, to add to the weekend’s activities, it looks like @AAABatteries is doing some awesome hikes in NC. It’ll be interesting to hear the details of all that!

Thanks tri-man. Just got back last night. Had a 6 day Appalachian Trail backpacking trip that we pushed hard to get done in 5 days. I’m wiped out but had a fantastic time - plan to write a “race report” in the hiking thread. Appreciate the supportive comment on Strava!

Like clockwork, through half at 1:50:10. Paces all between 8:21 and 8:25.

Yeah, I had a tough race. Brief race report:

Mile 1 5:38. First mile went OK. It felt hard but it was supposed to. I want to run 5:3X miles for the Turkey Trot so this was in line with that. Maybe 6 or 7 of us started out in a pack. By the first mile I was in 4th, not far behind the top 3. The others were falling back quite a bit. There was 40 feet in elevation loss during the mile. The paths were better than the rest of the course and the wind wasn’t too bad in these directions.

Mile 2 6:15. Near the beginning of the mile we were on the golf pathes and against the wind. I quickly knew I needed to slow down but I didn’t know how much. If I had to do it over, I would have worn my Adizeros instead of the Vaporflys. I had only 14 total miles in the Vaporflys and had a tough time navigating the curves and turns. Actually I have very little experience running those paces on anything other than near-perfect suburban streets. It makes a difference! The leaders were getting pretty far ahead and I didn’t notice anyone close behind me. I don’t think I checked the watch until the split. I stopped caring about time, I just wanted to be done with the race and not have anyone pass me.

Mile 3 6:06. Wind wasn’t as bad and we went off the golf near the end. I probably should have pushed harder at the end but I didn’t really care.

Official time 18:44. 4/473. That’s a little over a minute slower than I want to race. I’m not too concerned as I’ve been running faster in recent trainings and I can try to again before the race. Too bad this race didn’t serve as a confidence builder though.
