Weird/sad running news:

1) Boston marathon officials are apologizing for the actions of police officers who seem to be targeting members of the BIPOC (~ minority) community who were out to cheer on runners in Newton. Scroll down to see this disturbing video of police blocking, actually surrounding, a celebratory group of fans:
Boston strong?

2) And then there's the ultra-runner from Australia who flew to the UK for a 50-mile ultra. She wasn't feel well late, so she decided to drop out. A friend drove her forward to the next check point (her data showed a 1:40 mile). She reported to a race official, but then decided to finish anyway ...and accepted the third-place award before it was all discovered.

I’m calling it. It’s race weekend.
👊

Have a blast!

What are y’all up to this weekend?

One of the great local races is tomorrow, heel and crank - run, bike, run

I’m volunteering to hang out in transition and mark participants. A buddy of mine is the run director so I might help him a bit. Afterwards I’ll probably go for a run before helping the neighborhood clean up the pool and prepare for summer :excited: pool opens Mother’s Day weekend (last year I wore my wetsuit while my youngest kids swam).

Then, date night with the wife.

Knock on wood, because 2 days ago it said it was going to be raining for my race... but right now it looks like it will be 38 at at the start and 44 by the finish (feels like temps of 32 and 38) with no rain.

Hoping that stays true.
Perfection. Do you have a bib number yet/tracking info?

No bib # yet.

I'm also not sure how tracking will work. The link below makes it seem like I have to carry my phone and hit start on it as I get going:

I'm not sure if they have normal chip tracking outside of the phone. I'm probably not going to do the phone app thing.

I hope the tracking is better than when I did it in '18. Per usual, Toledo delivers with good weather though. I think last year is the only time it's not been 40something and dry in at least a decade.

Maybe this results page will update (race is Sunday 630 start)

Glad it looks like weather shouldn't be a big negative variable. You've had a really nice training block, it would suck to get hit with a race day weather whammy.

How's the taper been?

For my taper, it's gone as expected....started off a little sluggish and bloated feeling, which has passed now. I've upped my carb intake this week and cut back (a bit) on some if my bad eating.

All in all I've been able to take it easy.

Your race today or tomorrow?

Have a chill day today and May your legs be full of running come the morn. You’ve had a fantastic training block and prepared yourself and have experience to use. Have a great race day!

Looks like your bib chip will be trackable for folks who sign up for text updates after searching you…

Boys across the pond hobby jogging and taking pictures ahead of race day.
No tv coverage in the states that I’ve found. Race has an app for tracking. Flotrack members have live coverage I guess. Elites go off wicked early east coast time like 4:30am with many waves following.

Elite nuggets:
Double Olympic champion Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands will make her much anticipated debut against a stacked field. In the men's race, legends Kenenisa Bekele and Mo Farah take on defending champion Amos Kipruto and upstart Kelvin Kiptum.

A week of feeling good led to three runs, including today's 7 miler bright and early. Nice and slow in the fat-burning zone - shows you just how bad of shape I'm in. Just for comparison during my marathon training in 2019 I ran an 8 miler at the same heart rate at a 10:10 pace. Today? 11:49.

Heart rate training works, as we all know. Anyway, after that:

1. Farmers Market. Mostly greens this time of year, but asparagus is in. That's a gift from the gods. Radish. Sourdough bread...a fresh sesame bagel as a snack. All good

2. Casey's for big phat coke

3. Lowe's for a respirator for my son. He's started making soft plastics for the Corbinator Bait Company. They will be on the website soon.

4. Home Depot for a meat thermometer.

5. Community Center to check out the gym. I'm getting a membership for the boys as they are starting working for fall football and hockey. I hired a personal trainer to write them both a plan specific to a kicker and a hockey player. LOTS of isometrics and low weights for now as they build. These guys are getting big and strong and they've been working hard. Been motivating for me, as this week has shown. Maybe that's what I've needed to get things going.

Have a good weekend gents. @xulf , @gruecd , and @SteelCurtain - GET YOU SOME!! :headbang:

Bib #598

Thanks, guys. I'm bib #6549, and I'll supposedly be starting shortly after 10am local time. Weather looks to be pretty similar to Boston - temps in the low 50s, wind chills in the mid 40s, and rain likely throughout. Not ideal, but certainly better than 70s and humid. Given that it's my first time running here and being unfamiliar with the logistics, I'll probably head over to the start earlier than I'd like (especially given the weather). I'm really struggling to get dialed in mentally for this one. Hopefully that changes by morning.

As long as you don't keep seeing Big Ben and Parliament, I think you'll be fine.

G’dam roundabouts…..

Thanks everyone.

This race was obviously much better than Monumental. Weather was perfect. It is also small enough that congestion at the start was not bad at all.

I ran my race and was able to keep it up throughout. I thought I had a chance at 3:15 because the pacer was in my sights the whole race. They negative split and I just couldn't keep up and didn't want to do something stupid to jeopardize my time.

Super happy with this :towelwave:
