randall's ALS diary (1 Viewer)

I don’t think I can until I’m actually disabled - as in not working. Is that wrong?  Would Medicare benefit me now even if I could get it?  My wife’s medical insurance is excellent and covers many things Medicare doesn’t

You are right that ALS auto-qualifies for disability and Medicare once I do apply.
I didn’t realize you’re still working. What kind of work do you do?

In. Let’s get to that $2500 asap. (If it’s all FBG so far, seems we may be almost there).

Great stuff JB and DD.

For sure Buddy. More than fine.

In fact, let's do this - Honor system here but Footballguys will match up to $2,500 of money the forum raises. Let's give it a couple of weeks (or hours depending on what you guys do) and we'll match up to $2,500 for what you guys donate.

$150 more, goal reached in matter of hours......this is FBG at its best nice work.

We’ve met with contractors and a designer to plan out a first floor master suite addition.
sounds like you've got this under control- but please don't hesitate to reach out the second you have ANY questions about any of that- however small or idiotic you think it is. I specialize in residential (granted- mostly city stuff) so this is in my wheelhouse.

@randall146  I lost my father just two and a half weeks ago to a 3+ year battle with Bulbar onset ALS.  My eyes are welling up reading this thread, the loss is still so fresh.  Over Christmas it was evident that he wouldn't last another and we spoke frankly about the disease his mindset and how he's coped (he was a therapist by trade).  He spoke of mindfulness and being present are the things that helped him through... That was his last lesson for me.

Man I've got a thousand thoughts running through my head about these last 3 years and can't complete one other than ALS really ####### sucks.  I wish you strength and peace on your journey.

Thanks so much everyone and particularly Joe and David. It’s amazing that you guys came through for $5000 in less than a day, after sleuthing out the GoFundMe to begin with.

I feel hashtag blessed

p and s - just because you reached the matching goal of $2500 doesn’t mean you have to stop giving 😉

Thanks for getting this started Mr. Anonymous.  Great detective work.
I just wanted to help in any way I could. Once I found the right campaign, I weighed whether or not to share it. But hey, its GoFundMe - it's meant to be public. Everyone here is going way above and beyond what I did and should be proud of themselves. I'm glad to be a part of it. Most importantly I'm happy that something nice is being done for a fellow FBG. It's neat to see the total grow.

That being said, since the link is on page 4, and for the sake of convenience, here' randall's GoFundMe page fresh with another donation...

This time I added my FBG name. :)

Ok guys - I had to make a decision to try to preserve some of my anonymity. I had the admins of the GoFundMe hide any comments that mentioned “randall” or Footballguys by name. My concern is I don’t want real life people, particularly my kids, tracking down my internet identity and reading my posts. I don’t think I’ve said anything terrible here, but even in this thread I’ve talked about some personal medical or emotional stuff that I don’t want every real life person to know.

The alternative is deleting this thread, and the gun control thread, and going back through thousands of old posts. I don’t want to do this because I enjoy this community so much and this thread has been an outlet and source of strength for me.

@Joe Bryant I feel the worst about removing your comment because I’d love the site to get the PR for being so incredibly generous. But I just don’t see what else I can do.

One other alternative is just hiding all comments, which I may end up doing

sorry about that guys. I just don’t have anywhere else to so openly express myself about this disease, so I don’t want to give it up

Sorry man.  Didn't even think about it.

That was my comment with your username

You do what you think you need too

Zero worries Buddy. I couldn't care less about any PR. All good. You're all I care about.

Can I at least be AAAnonymous?

Just kidding GB - understand your reasoning.

Wow, nearly tripled in the last 2 hours and the campaign is now trending! I think randall's family and friends must have been informed.

Awesome

Late to the thread, but I hate to hear it GB :( hang in there man, I cant imagine what it's like, and if the only thing I can really do to help is read your posts about how you're doing and your thoughts, than I hope it at least provides some happiness and escape for you.
