You might be right about McCarthy, but not for this reason. Jones can't pass block and Rodgers is already playing on one leg. It is Jones fault he isn't on the field more. One of the many reasons this is his last year in GB.

The RB’s stayed in to pass block twice all of last game. You might be right about McCarthy, but not for this reason. Jones can't pass block and Rodgers is already playing on one leg. It is Jones fault he isn't on the field more.
The game script determined that. The Packers won't always be down 3 plus scores. He will continue to share time because he is a poor pass blocker. The RB’s stayed in to pass block twice all of last game.
That makes zero sense. Ok, though. The game script determined that. The Packers won't always be down 3 plus scores. He will continue to share time because he is a poor pass blocker.
It makes a ton of sense. Kareem Hunt was pulled out a ton last year and this year because he can't pass block. That makes zero sense. Ok, though.
You can’t say he was pulled for pass blocking when the RB’s did as close to zero pass blocking as you can get. That’s illogical. It makes a ton of sense. Kareem Hunt was pulled out a ton last year and this year because he can't pass block.
It was well known last year and I am saying that trend will continue and why Jones won't be the primary back on a consistent basis despite being the most talented back on the team. You can’t say he was pulled for pass blocking when the RB’s did as close to zero pass blocking as you can get. Diversity?https://twitter.com/TomSilverstein/status/1049369399197614080
McCarthy on Aaron Jones: Way the game goes and strength of the players on the football. He's dynamic with the ball in his hands. But there's more to the position than just running the football. We have diversity in our attack with three guys. All have excellent attributes
BAH :(
PFF Pass Blocking gradesIt was well known last year and I am saying that trend will continue and why Jones won't be the primary back on a consistent basis despite being the most talented back on the team.
Thatf is why Williams will come in even if he isn't asked to pass block. Rodgers might change the protection or the play and Jones can't be trusted to protect Rodgers who is already playing hurt.
What are these for last week, last year?
Uh, oh feathers ruffled. If it’s last week, this year or last year it makes your narrative untrue. Time to wake up rip van winkle. What are these for last week, last year?
Mike McCarthy is stupid. The Packers coaching staff has claimed this for going on 2 years now.
No, if it is for one week. I am not buying it. If it was for last year then then the Packers coaching staff are severely misusing him and should be held accountable.Uh, oh feathers ruffled. If it’s last week, this year or last year it makes your narrative untrue. Time to wake up rip van winkle.
I am good. Quit being an ###. You act like I am on the coaching staff. It isn't my narrative and it doesn't matter what you, I or PFF say.@msudaisy26 it’s for the year, so calm down guy. Also delete your post I just got a vacation for that. I won’t report you like some other clowns around here.
Ok, well I won’t be a coward then. I reported you because I’m not taking a vacation for a week and then be subjecated to the same treatment around here on my end. You can ignore me and we’ll move on.I am good. Quit being an ###. You act like I am on the coaching staff. It isn't my narrative and it doesn't matter what you, I or PFF say.
The Packers coaches won't put him on the field, so he can't score points for us in fantasy and they have claimed it is due to pass blocking.

okay, guy. Feel free to read all my posts next time and nice back track. Whatever helps you sleep at nightMaybe next time go half tilt and not full tilt.
They're both kind of cute (NTTAWWT)Soooo... you guys are hooking up, right?
Both of you get back to keeping it 100% on football and not each other.Whatever helps you sleep at night
Thx Joe.Both of you get back to keeping it 100% on football and not each other.
PFF grade is for this year...and he has played 2 games...and blocked how many times? The Claymaker said:I just tend to think MM is a moron, Rodgers won him a SB and he’s still coaching the Pack because of it.
Obviously none of us really know the truth behind the RB split, but regardless of his reasoning to me and seems like most viewers it makes no sense.
According to that PFF grade, he’s by far the best pass blocker, can catch and the most explosive runner on the team. I know I’m confused by the usage. Rodgers even said it himself, we gotta get him more touches. That’s good enough for me.
What an excellent post. All this misguided focus on pass protection.
Mike McCarthy is the coach. He likes using RBBC. That was true long before Jones and Williams arrived. Heck FF players have been overdrafting and over-bidding on Packer RBs for several years now.
Here are the Packers' last 10 top-scoring RBs:
2008 Ryan Grant 161.9 (RB22)
2009 Ryan Grant 211.0 (RB8)
2010 Brandon Jackson 128.5 (RB29)
2011 Ryan Grant 100.7 (RB36)
2012 Alex Green 58.9 (RB55)
2013 Eddie Lacy 209.5 (RB7)
2014 Eddie Lacy 234.6 (RB6)
2015 James Starks 129.3 (RB24)
2016 Ty Montgomery 98.5 (RB38)
2017 Jamaal Williams 117.8 (RB28)
Two RB1-level seasons from Eddie Lacy and one from Ryan Grant, and the rest not even RB2s.
That's the story here, not pass pro.
I agree and disagree, this is definitely good info, but it’s only part of the info. The Packers have not had many good RB’s in all those years. Lacy could have been if he didn’t put the dinner table first. Look at the names on that list, it’s a joke. Jones has talent and he’s got some pop when he runs. The bottom line is that you are probably right, this may always be the coaches fault until he is replaced, but there is talent at the position now, which is new for the Packers. All this misguided focus on pass protection.

I agree with you, but (at least from his quotes) it seems that Mike McCarthy may disagree with you... which may spell trouble for Jones. (Full disclosure: this comes from a frustrated Jones owner. Seems like every time I see him play, I see explosion and leg drive. It’s almost like MM is going out of his way to prove Jones isn’t the answer. I mean he gets flack from all angles on why he doesn’t use him maybe he’s just decided that he’s splitting carries regardless and that’s that, he’s the coach and he will decide who touches the ball. I mean Rodgers said it, who see what’s going on, on the field better than a QB?I agree with you, but (at least from his quotes) it seems that Mike McCarthy may disagree with you... which may spell trouble for Jones. None of the RBs are injured now, and it's a full-on RBBC.This is good info, but misleading.
2008 was a split
2009 Grant was the lead guy and produced like it
2010 - Grant got hurt in the first game and Jackson stunk
2011 - Grant was coming back from injury and Starks had his unbelievable run during the playoffs thus forcing a split and neither guy was good
2012 - Green was their 4th string running back, this wasn't a committee. Starks, Grant and Dujaun Harris all got hurt that year
2013 - Lacy ruled
2014 - Lacy again
2015 - Lacy got fat and was banged up all year.
2016 - TY was a receiver and took over at running back because everyone else got hurt
2017 - Montgomery started the year got hurt, Jones took over and got hurt, then Williams finished the year.
Green Bay has tried to go with a workhorse for the most part, but has been very unlucky with injuries.
So in 10 seasons they have had 3 rb1's and 2 rb 2's and a lot of injuries.
Umm, okay. I was replying to the fact that you said McCarthy likes to use a committee, but he doesn't. He only uses it when he has to.None of the RBs are injured now, and it's a full-on RBBC.
yes. I'd be shocked if this isn't the week he scores a long TD and has around 75-100 total yards.Jones has been very good albeit it in limited duty, so far this season, averaging 6.1 ypc. McCarthy's answer is plausible here, basically saying we've been behind in games and havent been able to run the ball the way we'd like to:
https://247sports.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/Article/Mike-McCarthy-explains-use-of-Aaron-Jones--123133676/
McCarthy sounds a little ticked off about the reporter asking about Aaron Jones' ( lack of) usage, and for good reason.
you just get the feeling that the breakout game is coming, and a matchup vs. SF is just the thing to get this offense dialed in.
So the Packers have dealt with RB injuries in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Seems like a pretty good reason for the coach to go with a RBBC in 2018.2010 - Grant got hurt in the first game and Jackson stunk
2011 - Grant was coming back from injury and Starks had his unbelievable run during the playoffs thus forcing a split and neither guy was good

And while the common narrative I see everywhere is that Jamaal Williams is elite at Pass Blocking (which I believe has been exaggerated), if this is truly the thinking by McCarthy then he deserves to be fired. If your start QB is injured and you want to protect him, you don't put a pass blocking RB in the game. First off, it's going to signal that you're throwing and tip your hand (and this RBBC he has signifies exactly that - there's a Twitter breakdown by a fan that could predict pre-snap every single time the Packers ran out of shotgun just by how close the RB lined up next to Rodgers - as each RB is used one way and allows the defense to know what's coming), but the goal here should be to expose Rodgers the least. The way you're going to do that is to rely on the running game to move the ball, and not put Rodgers in situations where he needs to move around, scramble, or take hits. Obviously when you're down by several scores late in the game you're limited with what you can do. But why would you abandon the run game in the middle of the 1Q when one of your RBs is averaging 6 YPC? If the Lions keep putting points on the board, then keep them off the field with your run game. It just seems so elementary, although I'm not surprised that McCarthy couldn't figure it out. He's been living off Aaron Rodgers for years. In 2016 the GB offense clearly was only clicking when Ty Montgomery was in there but he refused to utilize him to the degree that he should have. We're seeing a repeat of that in 2018 with Aaron Jones. The bright side is that we may see the team finally come around on Jones, especially if the Losses keep adding up or the pressure surrounding McCarthy continues to grow. It reminds me a lot of Alex Collins in Baltimore last year, where we saw his productiveness but the team refused to feature him for several weeks, teasing Fantasy owners to the point that some (including me) dropped him, thinking that the team was never going to properly use him.You might be right about McCarthy, but not for this reason. Jones can't pass block and Rodgers is already playing on one leg. It is Jones fault he isn't on the field more.
He doesn't based upon what, exactly? Your narrative that he would use a feature back if only his best back was healthy is being disproved this season.Umm, okay. I was replying to the fact that you said McCarthy likes to use a committee, but he doesn't. He only uses it when he has to.
So there is something else going on here.
We've discussed this significantly in previous pages of this thread. I posted a link to an article that mentioned, from one of the coaches, that GB doesn't like to go RBBC.He doesn't based upon what, exactly? Your narrative that he would use a feature back if only his best back was healthy is being disproved this season.
The evidence in front of us points to McCarthy preferring RBBC. We can try and dissect the reason(s) why, but in the end it doesn't really matter why.
Just because they aren't using a lone RB, doesn't mean that they prefer a RBBC. That's quite a bit of assumption.davearm said:He doesn't based upon what, exactly? Your narrative that he would use a feature back if only his best back was healthy is being disproved this season.

For those keeping score, through 3 games he is averaging 62.6 all purpose yards per game. And just getting warmed up!I will predict Aaron Jones will average at least 62.5 all purpose yards per game, putting him on 1000 yards per season if he played 16 games.
