RB Alvin Kamara, NO (1 Viewer)

Is the broken rib confirmed?

Was an off comment on some podcast from what i heard. Not sure it holds much water.

Anywhere other than here that this has been talked about?

That’s where I saw it. Apologies if it’s false and I’m spreading a bit of disinformation. That headline seemed like it came form a beat reporter.
I for one thank you for bringing that to my attention.

That's not a rando beat writer, when I had access to his info at his previous jobs I thought he was one of the best in the biz. Good enough to go into business for himself and consequently I don't get/pay for most of his info so if he's not tweeting it I don't know it.

He sent out a tweet late Tuesday night, not about Kamara specifically but said something along the lines of Saints fans need to prepare for a lot of potential heartbreak when the injury report comes out tomorrow but this is the first I've heard of a broken rib. If he's saying I tend to think it's true.

Anyway due to that tweet I saw Tuesday night and then Kamara showing up on the injury report the next day I made some moves Wednesday for Jamaal or Kendre were they were available. After seeing he got in two practices I was going to just turn around and cut Jamaal on the next waiver run tomorrow but now I think I'll hold on.
Yahoos player profile has him listed as hip/rib so there may be fire to this smoke.
The official injury report by the Saints listed it as hip/ribs so for sure there is something with his ribs but I just assumed they were sore, not maybe broke.

I recall him trying to gut through a painful rib injury in 2022. Missed a game, returned the next week, and then sat the following game. Can't remember the exact rib injury at that time but it was the same one Justin Herbert was dealing with and it's more of a pain management type injury then something you can make worse and would guess this is similar in that it's more of a pain management issue.

flak jacket up and continue to be an offensive threat, imo

Here we goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
Kamara to The Broncos
Kamara to The Chiefs
Kamara to the Cowboys
Who else ya got?

The Cowboys would make the most sense for Kamara owners, but do they have the cap space & picks to make it work?
if the cowboys do this, someone making a lot of money has to leave. I dont think they can do it otherwise.

but Kamara is more valuable in New Orleans than in Dallas. Carr throws to his checkdown more than Dak does. if he goes to Dallas the numbers wont be what they were in New Orleans

Right now it's hard to come up with a lot of teams that would be in the RB market and it's real tiny when you focus on teams that make sense as buyers. We got 3 more weeks of games and possible injuries but right now if a team is trying to get something for a RB in a trade I'd bet the market is cold.

We had reports that asking for a fifth for Khalil Herbert from a division rival was too steep a price for the buying side of the equation. And despite what fantasy yahoos will say (I am a yahoo), Ty Chandler is the back MN might have to roll with. He or Cam Akers in Herbert's stead (it was reported they were initially interested in Herbert over Akers, but a fifth proved prohibitive).

I'd say the market is really cold, especially for an aging backs whose main calling card is catching the ball out of the backfield. I moved Kamara for peanuts before the season began and it was an awful trade, but I can already see the Gurley-esque decline (only with less arthritis) from a favorite fantasy back. I'm sure that the scouts and GMs watching the actual games are going to pick up what he's throwing down on film.

He is best with the Saints as was pointed out upthread. Carr's checkdowns last year kept this guy afloat for quite some time when he came back from suspension.

As a fantasy gm if Alvin is on your team
Where would you want him to go?
Tough for me. I own zero shares. If I did, I actually think I'd just want him to stay where he is. He is getting 20 plus touches a game where he is at. I guess the question is where could he go to lock in 20 touches? In my opinion their is none.

Mike Garafolo:

Sources: The Saints   and RB Alvin Kamara agreed on a two-year, $24.5 million extension that puts him under contract through 2026.

The deal, confirmed by Kamara’s agent Brad Cicala of @QCSports, puts the 2017 third-round pick in position to retire a Saint.

He was already under contract for 2025 with like a $22MM base salary so not sure why this is being described as a 2 year extension in the headlines. Probably lowers his cap number next year and converts a big portion of the base to a bonus. With that huge base salary and the Saints cap situation they had to do something, honestly thought they'd cut him and give Kendre a chance finally. Sounds like they are chalking up this season for the team to injuries, probably means Carr will be retained next year too despite his huge cap number.

I don't think this comment I'm about to make is football-related but it's relevant. I don't think the GM is ever going to bite the bullet on this cap. He's leaving it for the next guy. The owner is the person who is going to have to step in, and I'm not sure about what current ownership is like. @Doug B, you haven't been around in a while, buddy. How are you? Any thoughts about Saints' ownership and the GM and the cap of the Saints?

Was never going to see that $22M base. He'd have been cut if a restructure was not done.

Oh for sure no team was going to pay a RB that kind of salary, I thought he'd get cut too and probably land in Denver with Payton. My mind just finds it weird every article is calling it a "two year extension" when he was already under contract for 2025. Maybe restructure isn't appropriate when they are adding a year and tearing up the old contract, idk what would be. I guess 2 year extension.

Will PM.

Might be worth inviting @Shawnky and some other Saints' peeps into the main Saints thread to discuss ownership/GM/cap. Those topics would take away from fantasy info about Kamara.

Very short and quick, though: Executive vice president/general manager Mickey Loomis does not have the typical "GM working at the behest of the owner" role that most other GMs have. There's virtually no chance of owner Gayle Benson ever firing him -- in fact, Loomis is part of the succession plan for team ownership after Benson passes on. Someone on Saintsreport recently made the observation that Loomis -- though not being the owner -- is basically the Saints' Jerry Jones as far as organizational power structure goes.

Gayle Benson is, I think, the most hands-off and detached owner in American pro sports (aside perhaps from any corporate ownerships). She attends all the games and all, but they are social events for her and her circle of intimates. Unlike most other owners, she doesn't seem to have the team attached to her ego in any way. The Saints losing doesn't seem to affect her. Now, she WILL spend money -- if Loomis says "We need cash for X", she will lay that cash out without hesitation. She doesn't have that personal competitive ethic, though, that would influence her choices regarding the team.

Today I was offered Alvin Kamara for Malik Nabers and Trey McBride. I declined.
Even though I’m a Saints fan, who wouldn’t decline that?
That's what I was wondering. It was an easy quick decline for me.
Not sure. Nabers and McBride, depending on if PPR and scoring system, are better than Kamara by himself especially with him dealing with injuries.

I don't think so. I feel I made the right choice as I need McBride (there's no replacement available that's close), and I need Nabers too, he's my WR2 after Chase. I have Bijan, Achane, JK Dobbins, and Brian Robinson Jr. We start 2 RBs, 4 WRs and a Flex and we start 2 TEs (my other is Kyle Pitts.

You made the right call. Starting lineup requirements are more important than scoring system. In a must start 4 WR and a must start 2 TE league, Malik and McBride are clutch.

Does new coaching staff or the fact that the Saints seem to be trading assets and giving up on the season change Kamara’s usage? Or do they just ride him till the wheels fall off?

This is something I will lose a little sleep over.

It's sad he's stuck on such a terrible team. What he's doing at 29 as the only real weapon on this team is staggering. He's had better seasons statistically, but 2024 might be his most impressive due to the state of affairs in New Orleans. It's almost unbelievable that this might be the first year he reaches 1,000 yards rushing in a single season.

How are Kamara owners feeling about him rest of season? I am thinking of acquiring him, but there seems to be some concern with the lack of tds, overall quality of the team the potential they may sit him down eventually.

Adding to the agreement- they gave him a contract because they know he’s their guy for the next couple years. They shouldn’t feel the pressure to see what they have elsewhere or preserve his trade value. If anything, if they choose to roll over for the tank, Kamara is in a good spot to benefit from passive, listless game scripts that bad teams employ to stay bad.

Rumor that CEH signed by Saints.

OMG start the presses. Film at 11.

Could be a sign that Kamara is out and they need more help (good news for Kendre pick-up). If you think otherwise, that's cool.
I have Miller, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable starting him in the playoffs. Yeah, signing CEH isn’t a threat to Miller in anyway shape, form, or fashion.
I view it as a sign that Kamara may not suit up for remainder of season (obv no one actually knows outside of saints org). After losing Monty, I'm forced into Pacheco, Spears or Miller - none of whom I'm comfortable with starting.

Pacheco, Spears, Miller in that order is my opinion on it.

FWIW Dr. Chao has been speculating for a few days that he thinks Kamara will be out ROS. But he also keeps referring to him as a "speed back" and factoring that in his analysis and Kamara is pretty far from a speed back so I don't know but I'll be surprised if he goes this week.

As to your question I'd think Spears if Pollard is out would be a no brainer to most. Obviously some complications with Chiefs playing Saturday, Titans Sunday and Saints on Monday and knowing status of Pollard and Kamara. But I feel like we are going to have a pretty good idea before the Chiefs kick off.

If we are talking a situation were Pollard is playing I'd go with Kendre. Pachecho would be my last choice. But I might have an irrational confidence in Kendre this week. I just think he's looked really good, better then the stats have shown. But past that he's got fresh legs, a lot to prove and should own lions share of the work. Chiefs have been rotating a lot since Pachecho returned.
