RB Bijan Robinson, ATL (1 Viewer)

Ok, so this might be a dumb question and not trying to be funny but when I saw Bijan at the podium I got legit curious thinking how do you get accurate height readings on people who wear their hair this way? https://twitter.com/Andrew_Krammer/status/1632018650226913280/photo/1
Lol.
Press down or slide the scale thingy. It's doable.
Fair question though
That thing seems tough to press down on so you might want to adjust this:

5110/215

I don’t think you press it down. You just slide a measurement device into it on the scalp like a comb or a pick.

I said slide it......)))))

There is not one RB in the NFL I would want over Bijan Robinson and most if given two RBs. A guy in one of my DEVY leagues, who is smarter than most, has been getting the best of the league for years. He traded Barkley and Swift for Robinson a couple of weeks ago.

G1 Savage @kennyvaccaro
My comp for Bijan is Alvin Kamara. Comparable size/height. Elite balance, vision, feet and hands/route running. I expect him run faster as well. Best player in the draft🤘🏽

@nfldraftscout

Matt Miller @nfldraftscout

I’ve been saying Saquon because of the power and contact balance but I like that one too!

They used to take two measurements

I really find it strange that this thread stays on page 1. There's almost nothing to talk about until we see where he goes.
If that were true of Bijan, wouldn't it apply to every pre-draft prospect?

I just mean this guy is the best player in the draft, the best RB to come out since Barkley, etc. What's there to discuss?
Yeah, I suppose. I thought you meant in the other direction, like he's not good enough to know his value until he has a team, so I was thinking, uh, so who is worth talking about? But yeah, I guess people just like getting excited and thinking about the possible outcomes.

Slower (4.46 vs. 4.40), lighter (215 vs. 233), and less explosive than Barkley (37" vert vs. 41"). The guy is really good, but hopefully people can stop with that comparison now. Barkley was a generational physical talent. Robinson can be a top 10 NFL back, but the narratives exceed the reality in terms of his raw athletic tools. Not that he's a slouch at all. 4.4x at 215+ is great and on par with what you'd want from a first round back. It's just not quite FREAK level.

The draft is such a booming cottage industry that by the time some of these guys actually get picked, their legend has been built up by years of narratives. I think Bijan is closer to Zeke level than Fournette or McFadden level, but he's short of all-timer status if you stack him up against Peterson, Tomlinson, or Barkley. Probably closer to a Lynch type of prospect, which is still tremendous. Barkley is basically a faster Lynch with 20+ extra pounds though. Mutant.

I expect non-honks to point out that there was a better testing running back by a significant margin and that it was just last year. Generational my foot. Hall da man!

The 40 should be run in full pads, along with every other drill.
Players should run a 40 every year they are in the NFL, make contractual incentives if you have to. I wonder what Jerome Bettis's 40 time was his last couple years.

The actual drills were on par with Saquan and Zeke. His catch and run ability is elite. Did not disappoint and still the 1.01 by a large margin.

His catch and run ability is elite.

same with…Breece. Look, this is just a point and I write it with a smile, but everybody slagged last year’s class and it didn’t seem right. Now we’ve got the 1.01 testing lower than last year‘s 1.01, only this guy is called generational. It strikes me that people hivemind and groupthink and therefore don’t think. It’s a microcosm of all things wrong with following leaders and consensus and not your own analysis (at times) when the event or postulation calls for skepticism.

And it manifests in Bijan and Breece, and the two perceptions of each. Breece is still a “nice back,” Bijan is “generational.“ Makes no sense.

Last year Breece was the far and away #1 before the combine, and people lost their mind after the combine. Breece was a 1st round startup pick in most of the drafts I saw.
Dude, Breece Hall was hyped up PLENTY last year.

2023 NFL Scouting Combine: Texas RB Bijan Robinson runs 4.46-second 40-yard dash

Excerpt:

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Robinson ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, which was the sixth-best result of the running back group. Robinson weighed more than every other back who turned in a faster time, except for Tulsa's Deneric Prince, who ran a 4.41 at 216 pounds.

Robinson, ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the draft by NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah, seemed to be pleased with his 40 result.

"I mean, yeah, It was a good time," he told NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales after the completion of the workout.

Robinson's 10-yard split of 1.52 seconds tied for the third-best mark among running backs, matching the number of his college teammate, Roschon Johnson. That time was just a sliver slower than the 10-yard split of Texas A&M RB Devon Achane(1.51), who entered the combine as one of the favorites for the 40-yard-dash crown.

Among all running backs, Robinson tied for fifth in the vertical jump (37 inches) and tied for fourth in the broad jump (10-foot-4). During the on-field workouts, Robinson displayed his burst, quickness and vision that made him one of the best players in college football the past three seasons. In the drills, he worked his way through the bags as quickly as any back in the group. Robinson also caught the ball well.

You don't think Bijan is a more special runner, coming out of college?

No. A lot of things are team-dependent, especially running backs who depend on their line. It was pointed out on numerous sites last year that IA State’s line stunk when Breece was there. Other than an eye test, how can one tell besides Texas hype for a Texas product?

I’m also a firm believer in these underwear Olympics. That’s why the players aren’t running. Fear and loathing, as it were. I love that Bijan had nothing to hide.

So I should be really complimentary of that. Huge balls on Bijan for even participating

I get the overhype, and it's very American of us to be down on a guy if it wasn't BEST EVA 3 cone, or whatever.

But Bijan is probably top 4 talent in the draft, those guys just need to to not have a bad combine. I don't care about his or Will Anderson's workout numbers, as long as they are above a certain line.

I think Bijan can be a lesser athlete than Breece and Saquon, and wind up being a better running back than both of them.

That‘s true, and I won’t deny it.

The rest of your post rang true, too.

Im being a bit persnickety here, but I believe certain guys‘ hype is overblown and other guys are under appreciated. This isn’t so much con Bijan as it is pro Hall. I don’t believe Bijan is that overblown, but Hall was slept on.

I remember everybody being totally bonkers for Hall. And still so.

Yep. A lot more bonkers after the combine though

I thought the fantasy community lacked the excitement for the top and depth of the first round last year. It was industry standard to trade your late first for any first this year. They were calling 1.09-1.12 a dead zone and saying no astute player would hold those picks. The 1.01 was similarly denigrated by the cognoscenti besides a select few outlets.
