It gets the clicks but I highly doubt it’s going to happen. LaCanfora is the source, and his track record is dubious at best. I think in actuality there is no market for Watson right now. All of these stories are coming from his agent or Houston and these reporters are more than happy to report it for the clicks. Also wouldn’t be the first time they carried water for these guys in this type of situation.

although id take cmc contract if they gave even more picks and rookie players lol

Unless the Panther's need to unload a large contract in order to redo the contract of the franchise QB they acquire.to a long-term deal. Not sure what Carolina's cap situation is but they might be making this a condition of the deal. Not sure what Houston's cap situation is either but I would think that if they are in rebuild mode they'll have a bunch of cheap rookie deals and could afford McAffery's cap hit.

We thought no one would trade for an RB to sign them to a huge contract and get rid of a franchise receiver, top 3 in the league

In addition to LaCanfora being the source this is the other reason I don’t buy the rumor. McCaffrey’s contract hit with two consecutive seasons of health concerns makes absolutely no sense for a rebuilding team.

PFT also pointed out that between Watson, McCaffrey's accelerated bonus after a trade, and Darnold's guaranteed money, the move would cost the Panthers over $70 million on next year's cap. The whole thing just makes zero sense.

 
Rhule said today, CMC will hopefully be back this week or next week. Maybe I'm being pessimistic(as a CMC owner last year) but I'm kind of 50-50 he plays again this season, and Rhule is just doing this for some sort of competitive advantage. This just feels eerily similar to last year, and I'm not sure the Panthers currently being the #7 seed, changes anything.

He's just a perpetual liar. First he said CMC will be back in no time. Now he's saying he may not be back.

I just think it's opposite day for this clown Rhule. Therefore, I don't have any reason to think CMC misses this week as of today.

If he actually tore it, instead of just pulling it, that is absolutely a season ending injury. We haven't gotten any information since he almost certainly had a setback. Its possible/likely, the setback was worse than the original injury. Rhule keeps pushing the timeline, just like he did last season.

 
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said if Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) can't play in Week 9, he's hopeful McCaffrey will play in Week 10. 

Rhule in his never-ending vagueness said CMC might be able to practice by Wednesday, ahead of Carolina's Week 9 game against the Patriots. McCaffrey whose three-week injured reserve stint comes to an end this week, hasn't played a full game since Week 2 against the Saints. Fantasy managers should plan to be without him this week and hope -- like Rhule -- he's back for Week 10. Chuba Hubbard will remain the team's primary ball carrier in the meantime. CMC is on his way to a second consecutive disastrous, injury-plagued season.

He was practicing a week and a half later. He did not tear his hammy cleanly - it's a strain. 

There are known facts about this injury, so this wild speculation seems misguided. He had a setback trying to get back too soon. He's now been shut down for 3 weeks. 

I see no reason why this would be season ending.

They said he's going to practice on Wednesday. So.....what more do you need? If he tore his hammy & was out for the season, he would not practice Wednesday. 

This seems fairly easy.

Even if he plays, which I doubt.  His value is going to take a hit due to the new running offense they are trying to do.  The oline actually was that bad yesterday running the ball and both chubba and AA ran welll.  Now of course cmac is going to get touches but I have to imagine he is on a pitch count.

I doubt he'll play this week - week 10 seems realistic, but the practice reports will give us better insight to that. 

As for the last part, even with a run-heavy game-plan, I doubt that would impact CMC's receiving role - Darnold was much more successful when he had CMC to dump-off to. I don't know why he'd be on a pitch count if he's fully healthy. 

We'll see what happens, but I'm optimistic that if he comes back, he'll be CMC again.

There are known facts about the injury he suffered in week 3. We have no idea what his setback was, but its certainly seeming like it was worse than a strained hammy.

Rhule doesn't sound like he's expecting CMC this week or next, he's just hopeful. I have no idea where you got that he is practicing Wednesday, that's when he's first eligible to, but Rhule sure doesn't sound like a guy expecting him to.

Sounded exactly like a strained hammy to me. He sat a week, then went back to practice and had several clean practices. He then practiced on back to back days & reported no issues. Then he apparently aggravated it the next day & they shut him down. 

I’ve had players who have had that exact same thing happen in that exact same sequence of events. It’s a tricky injury. if it doesn’t fully heal, it can haunt the player for a while. 

I think a lot of this speculation is due to the team & their reporting last year. I understand the paranoia, but nothing here seems out of the ordinary for a strained hammy - that he was able to practice on a limited basis before indicates that they thought it was minor. That he aggravated it is unfortunate, but it basically hit the reset button on the recovery time.

I “got the idea” he’s practicing on Wednesday from Rotoworld, who has it as a top 6 blurb right now. ETA: “Rhule in his never-ending vagueness said CMC might be able to practice by Wednesday, ahead of week 9”

Yep. Deductive reasoning - injury one was grade 1. Injury two was either grade 2 or another grade 1. Thing is with a second grade 1 is it almost always takes longer to heal than the first. The muscle didn't finish healing then another problem happened, which restarts the scar tissue clock that now has to do double the work. 

This is why I usually don't start a skill player in their first game back from a muscle strain. Some players like CMC are worth the risk though.

I almost posted some hyperbole to that effect, but went with 9:55 on game day. 

 
Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) practiced on Thursday.

It would likely be a limited designation given that McCaffrey was on a stationary bike as individual drills began, but teams don't have to update injury designations on players returning from IR. McCaffrey's been out since leaving Thursday Night Football in Week 3. Keep an ear to the ground on Friday to see what happens. If McCaffrey is playing, we'll probably know about it on Saturday because he'll have to be officially restored to the roster.
