RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (2 Viewers)

49ers will decide if CMC heads to IR in the next 24 hours

This is the lock of the year, he's going on it. He said that Thursday was his worst day "painwise".

The question now is if he's got some crazy injury that can't be fixed. This has been an issue for a very long time now.

I don't think its the calf that's the issue, it's the Achilles. If he plays professional football right now, he's going to rupture his Achilles, imo.

I believe this because they lied for 4-6 weeks about it just being a calf thing. Once Achilles came out, it became much more severe.

I've never seen anyone go on IR over a calf. CMC wishes it was just a calf injury. I'm not a doctor though, I don't know if Achilles can magically heal themselves.

I'd be furious if I drafted him at 1.01 though. If the words "Achilles injury' were being thrown around predraft, he would have fallen into the late second.

People aren't dumb. It's not a new injury, it's the same injury as the calf. They just kind of swept it under the rug and ****ed over millions of people.

Anybody that drafts CMC in redraft has to handcuff.

I’m pissed bc I wanted to pick Mason up in two leagues but read somewhere CMC was really probable and not questionable.

Where’s that point to the shirt emoticon?

They guy in our league who drafted him 1.01 has been strangely silent all day. Waiting for blowup in the team chat.

He already lost Tee Higgins and Jordan Addison. Wonder if we should call the police for a welfare check.

I never get the first pick. Never. So of course I finally get one and I take CMC and in round two, I took Nakua. Thank the fantasy gods I play in multiple leagues otherwise I’d be tempted to look for a length of rope and a high place.

And I’m old enough to remember the “Shanahanigans” that Skeletor used to pull. I truly loath the Niners. Maybe more than Dallas now…

Ah whatever…it’s just a hobby…

Let us know who else is on Team Voodoo so we can prepare ourselves, lbs.

I would have laughed at this but there is nothing funny about a laughing emoji. ;)

4 year run of taking my dynasty league's points title. CMC had something to do with the most recent ones.

After deciding it was time to move on from D Henry for a '25 1st, this is definitely looking like my David Robinson injury year to clear the path for Tim Duncan.

Unfortunately, I don't think '25 is thought to hold any "T Dunks" at the 1.1.

I'm not sure an all-out tank is worth the shame and embarrassment with this draft class, but I'm one CMC dynasty (& re-draft) shareholder that's starting to look towards next year.

It’s all part of the same ligament system, stress and strain on one affects the other. Wouldn’t shock me if he had plantar fascia issues.

I said nov 1 Monday night, I think I was wildly optimistic. I’d put him at Dec 1 now. Fantasy death if you don’t have an IR slot, you can’t cut him but you’re holding out for the playoffs

Anybody in this thread attempt to trade for or away from cmc? Would you accept a lowball like Xavier Worthy and Rico Dawdle or some kind of chumpy offer like that, at this point?

Lynch and Shanahan are running an actual football team. They don't care one iota (nor should they) about your (and millions of others') magic football teams.

Hope CMC makes a full recovery. Football is more fun to watch when he's on the field.

I'm with you. Heck magic football, I didn't draft CMC. I was moreso thinking the global betting market and future bets made on CMC.

At some point a little transparency would be nice when dealing with the millions in league entries and millions more in bets.

I myself am unaffected and have benefited for rostering Jordan Mason, but I still feel bad because I know people got burned on what appears now to have been misinformation.

While head coach Kyle Shanahan dismissed the idea of placing McCaffrey on injured reserve earlier this week, Lynch did not.
“If that’s the right thing, it’s what we’ll do,” Lynch said. “We’ll consult. We’ll, first of all, see how he’s doing today after getting a good work session in yesterday, see how he responds. And then, all options now, as Kyle has said, are on the table.

Listening to it and reading the editorialized quotes are vastly different.

Listening to it live he gave a very stock, “never say never” kind of response. But he’d been pretty positive prior calling it a day to day issue that can flare up and go away as quickly.

Media loves making mountains out of molehills.

Not saying he might not end up on IR, but that was definitely not as big a take-away from the presser as all the clickbait headlines are making it out to be.
#49ers coach Kyle Shanahan says that RB Christian McCaffrey had his worst day health wise yesterday in terms of pain. IR is now under consideration, which would mean missing at least the next four games.

Yeah that just happened.

But why then was CMC out there running routes today?

Weird.

Shanahan apparently indicated that they are considering IR now.

Note to self: Don't believe a word a coach says in August.

Starting to wonder if they haven't hired a CMC body double and the real CMC has been kidnapped at this point....

They often feel like the same thing. I have Achilles tendonitis too, and at first you feel it kinda in your lower calf. It attaches to the back of the foot and it all connects, so it's often really hard to know if it's your achilles or your calf that's hurting.

I don’t think he plays much football this year in the regular season, and if he does, he quickly re-aggravates the injury and misses remainder.

I just don't think this is much more than rest related. The guy played deep into playoffs two years in a row. A ton of usage. Has some overuse soft tissue stuff going on. Achilles tendinitis by all accounts is simple pain management. And according to CMC, he's good to go––which I believe. But I think we're seeing a team with SB aspirations being extremely cautious and essentially protecting a player from himself.

If anything, we're probably seeing motivation for CMC to simply not say the injury is still bothering him. He'll say he's fine Week 6 and get eased in.

SFF bye is week 9. Not sure if the timing of his IR has him back for week 6 or 7... if the latter, we might not see him full song until week 10?

He could be back week 6.

Have a gut feeling they might keep him out weeks 6/7/8 though. Although, Seahawks/Chiefs/Cowboys are 3 pretty huge games those weeks.

OK, I thought maybe week 2 was underway (after TNF) it might be 7.

They're now saying it could be 6 weeks of more he's out. How many days until he's just done for the year at the rate this is escalating? I've never seen anything like this.

He's fine.
He's a bit sore but he's fine.
He's got a minor injury but he's fine.
He's questionable but he'll play.
He won't play but definitely won't go on IR.
Ok he's on IR but should be back by then.
Well he may not be back for 6 or more weeks.

Even if 49ers have to shut Christian McCaffrey down for a relatively prolonged period, they stand to benefit from a fresh CMC down the stretch and into the playoffs — when it really matters.

They have the luxury of being able to take this approach because their roster is so good

I don’t understand how SF is getting away with this…scumbags.
It's almost like they don't care about your fantasy football team.
Its been awhile since the football reporting community has been fooled this bad. No one considered CMC injured till before week 1. Then it just went from not a big deal to basically half the year.
