RB Dalvin Cook, DAL (5 Viewers)

Worst case scenario for me. Had already planned on starting both Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, now I gotta pick between cook and Mattison. Can’t start them all, and it’s a must win week.

I would go Jones and Dillon given that scenario.

Don't see how Cook can play tonight and feel like even if he is suited up that he won't touch the ball more than 8-10 times.

-Schefter, Ian and the Fat Guy will all have updates throughout the day today.

I would too.  You at least know they each have a specific role and both have potential for scoring decently even with the other one playing.

Not the case with Cook/Mattison.  If Cook is active you have to lean him but one shot and he is done.  If you play Mattison (with Cook active) and Cook doesn't take that shot then Mattison could get very little.   It's a stay away if Cook is active for me.

if i start either, it's Mattison

This is worst case scenario as a. owner of both... really wanted to hear Cook declared out, or off the injury report.

Now in this situation where weekend could be ruined before it starts if things break the wrong way with Cook tonight.

The other thing at play here is that Thursday games are typically ugly offensively.  Generally they underperform so it's just not a good spot for either if Cook is active.

Curious, why did you say that Thursday games are typically ugly offensively?  Is that really true?

Short week, banged up players, etc.  It's not to say that there aren't good performances at times but my players seem to always underperform when playing on Thursday (especially lower end guys, WR2/3, RB2/Flex type guys).

As an example, last week other than garbage time Taysom I would say all offensive guys underperformed or had floor performances.  Ceedee had receptions but no TD's and less than 90 yds.  Dak wasn't very good.  Pollard had one good run and Zeke was bad.  Ingram did nothing

Hope Dalvin does not play but if he does I'm starting him over Mattison.

This is not an injury that projects to limit Dalvin's ability to perform. It does increase risk of early game exit or shared load however. As for sharing if the team does not think he can handle taking hits he won't get clearance so to me I put odds of Dalvin getting a bigger load. The early game exit is by far the biggest fear but to me that fear is no more then Cook/Mattison having a typical timeshare which is not usually a lot better for Mattison then if you started Cook and he left about a drive or two. Risk cuts both ways.

Also Mattison got beat up a little last week. I don't think on any injury report had 1-2 points last week when I thought he might me out. Big workload and short week vs Dalvin's legs having a week off.

Maybe one of those Shefter type reports sway me the other way but otherwise I'm going Dalvin over Mattison or punt.

I would think that stinging sensation in the shoulder after a hard hit would have an impact on his ability to perform.

Mike Clay dropped Mattison's ppr projection to 6.3 (from like 18) and I came here to see what folks were thinking.

I have Mattison so kinda bummed but good for Dalvin, I guess. Maybe the shirt says "No one cares about your fantasy team, even on a fantasy football message board."  but the potent 123 of Eli Mitchell, James Robinson and Mattison I had rolling into this week seemed pretty good. 🤣

Yea, can't say I agree. That's a pain tolerance issue at most and not something that I think impacts him in the way most lower body injuries like ankle sprain/hammy for instance would.

I'm treating Cook as a top-10 RB this week. Mattison is basically a flex somewhere in the 30s in my opinion. Cook is riskier than normal, but the Steelers run D isn't good by any means, and this feels like a Vikings win to me.

Still holding out hope none of us have to face this difficult decision:

@JosinaAnderson

I'm told #Vikings RB Dalvin Cook is currently being regarded as a 'game time decision,' per league source. My understanding is Cook will work out before the game.@TomPelisseroreported this morning that Cook was 'trending' towards playing 11 days after dislocating his shoulder.

@BenGoessling

While Dalvin Cook is pushing to play after two days of limited practice this week, the question still remains if the #Vikings will clear him for the Steelers game tonight. Medical staff will have the final say, especially with four NFC games (and three division games) left

Why you rushing back, Dalvin? Take a couple weeks off.
And along those lines there is a long list of these type of situations where some of us not lucky enough to have any real impact RBs have been using tape and glue the entire season, we finally get a few back ups thrust into the spotlight and start them, no sooner than we do they are taken away and put back in the garage.

About an hour ago on TNF First Look: Cook took all 1st team reps in practice, has full strength and range of motion in that shoulder, and barring some unforeseen setback in warmups will be good to go.

And they just followed up with: Someone "very close" to the situation said Cook is playing tonight - barring some type of medical setback in pregame. Added - Cook has had this exact same injury before, came back and wore a harness (like tonight), and TORE IT UP!

OK... good enough for me... he's in there.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports "the plan" is for Dalvin Cook (shoulder) to return for Thursday evening's game against the Steelers, barring a setback in pre-game warmups.

Per Pelissero, Cook has already "regained strength and range of motion" in his banged up shoulder. National insiders for both NFL Network and ESPN have now reported that Cook will give it a go. Cook is somehow continuing his remarkable streak of serious-looking injuries turning out less so. We are obviously skeptical Cook will be ready for 100 percent of his typical workload, but he took first-team reps during the week. We would fire him up as a low-end RB1, leaving Alexander Mattison as a shaky FLEX. Mattison's case is enhanced by Adam Thielen's absence.

Thank god I don't own this guy.

This feels like Zimmer trying to save his *ss.

Can't imagine he gets his full load AND stays in the game/healthy.
I know many don't, but 100% agree with you. Seems like there should be no way Cook plays in this game.

Who do we look for to give a pregame update of warmups etc? Can we trust him getting full load as usual?
All news points to Cook seeing plenty fo touches tonight, doesn't look like a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Same shoulder harness he tore it up with in the Playoffs 2020

🤷‍♂️

I pulled Mattison, felt like I had to

Have Cook in a meaningless game for me because I’m already set in the playoffs, but going against Mattison in a game I’m trying to win the division in a different league.  I just hope this isn’t BS and Cook is used like Henderson last week.

Dalvin Cook rushed 27 times for 205 yards and two touchdowns in Minnesota's Week 14 win over Pittsburgh, adding a 17-yard catch on three targets.

Seems like his shoulder was alright. Cook spent the first half mostly running to wide open spaces as the Steelers run defense was just pushed around at the point of attack, he had five separate yards of 15 or more yards in the first 18 minutes of game time. He ground out tough yards in the second half and made his only catch of the game up the seam on third-and-9 with 2:51 left. If you listened to the Adam Schefter report, you're probably pretty happy with the results. Cook will have extra time to rest his shoulder ahead of a Week 15 date with the Bears and will be back on the RB1 line.

Saw that Cook was off the injury report and started him. You have to. Even if you have Matison. I'll happily take those 35 points.  If you didn't start him, that's on you.

I keep seeing this emoji, sorry for the slight thread derail but.. what is this?
A guy came on here years ago trying to sell his ffl  t shirts - with the theme being how much luck there is in fantasy or something similar.  His post had a series of scenarios where you could “point to the shirt”. I am sure you can find the original thread if you search for it.  It turned into predictable hilarious troll fest, and a new emoji was born.
