A lot of sites are now that way. CBS is particularly bad. Yahoo! is probably still the best at free advice.

The Jets have shown to be dumb at times, but under Joe Douglas they haven't been close to being that dumb - teams do not sign players to keep them away from other teams. If the Jets sign him it's because they don't like the depth behind Hall and want to ease him in. Personally I think Carter, Knight and Abanikanda is more than enough to get by - but it's obvious this team is going all in for the next two years so I can't really complain if they add Cook so long as they're not over-paying.Maybe the Jets are going after D Cook just to keep him away from other Division foes?

Personally I don't care if he ends up in Miami or Buffalo (he doesn't make either team that much better than what they already have), and I surely don't care if he ends up in New England. I think New England has a better shot at the top pick in the 2024 draft than winning the AFC East.
Or the Pats. He's allegedly supposed to meet with them too.Basically said he's going to the Jets. Now this is either true, or he's trying to get Miami to up their offer lol
It looks that way now. Rodgers and him also chatted on the sidelines. Rodgers trying to get some guys some rings. I don’t love it as a fan, but I guess I can look at it as “free money” since Rodgers made it possible by kicking something back into the pot.Cook will be signed Monday. Rodgers reworks his contract and the very next weekend Cook is the guest of honor. Rodgers wants him.
To me it feels like Cook is trying to get a better offer from dolphins but we will see. Cook knows he won't get much burn when Hall is ready.
Rodgers isn't used to playing in cold weather. He will struggle in the NY winters.assuming Rodgers is back to form and it looks that way

| Footballguys view: It seems like only a matter of time before Cook joins QB Aaron Rodgers. If/when that happens, Cook will be in line to be the no.1 back for the Jets. That means second-year pro Breece Hall will be working in a reserve role when he's healthy. |
Breece Hall vs Alexander Mattison...Dalvin Cook back in New York Mon Jul 31, 04:23 AM
Free-agent RB Dalvin Cook (Vikings) visited with the New York Jets Sunday, July 30, taking a physical, meeting with coaches and watching practice.

Not sure I agree with the FBG view. I think it would be a true RBBC allowing Hall to work his way back.Dalvin Cook back in New York Mon Jul 31, 04:23 AM

At this stage, I would say no, but Saleh is probably (and smartly) playing the long game with Breece. Is Dalvin Cook really better than a healthy Breece Hall?
Idk how to put this lightly but hell nooooIs Dalvin Cook really better than a healthy Breece Hall?

He's better than a healthy Bam Knight, Michael Carter, or Israel Abanikanda. Is Dalvin Cook really better than a healthy Breece Hall?

ETA: He's the #2 as soon as Hall is good to go though, Hall is better than Cook at every aspect of the position at this point. Cook is probably east coast David Montgomery in this scenario, where Hall is a much higher ceiling Gibbs.
I'd probably say Cook=Montgomery personally. He's better than a healthy Bam Knight, Michael Carter, or Israel Abanikanda. Is Dalvin Cook really better than a healthy Breece Hall?

Cook >> Knight/Carter/Abanikanda
Cook > David Montgomery
Pre-Injury Hall > 28-year-old Cook
Many fantasy managers seem to have written off Dalvin Cook as washed-up. He is not. He is still a very good RB; however, aging RBs sometimes hit the wall rather abruptly. A fully-recovered Breece Hall is better than a 28-year-old Dalvin Cook, as RB is a young man's position in the NFL, but Hall may not be fully recovered at any point in 2023. One of the elements that made Hall so good for 6.5 games during his rookie season was his explosiveness. We will see how quickly he regains that.
At this point, I’m not sure this is true (at least take away one “>”)- but obviously if they do sign Cook the financial implications and Rodgers trust in him surely moves him past Knight on the depth chart.Cook >> Knight

I will agree that if Hall is hurt worse than we know, or is slower to recover than expected, things could change. But, I still think people are too worried about an ACL injury. Its not THAT big of a deal anymore, a guy like Dobbins was the exception, and I think Cook's possible addition is more of a comment on the depth behind Hall, and the Jets being in a short window following the Rodgers deal.
ETA: I'm not saying an ACL tear is insignificant, but its not some death blow to explosiveness, especially to a guy so young.

I don't know that many people have written him off as washed-up, but I also don't think he is still a very good RB. His overall numbers were good last year but a lot of that is because he managed to play in every game, which is at least 3 more than any other season of his career. Most of his per game and per carry numbers dropped, and his advanced metrics took a nosedive. The trend is certainly down, and while it's not impossible to level off (possibly even point back up a touch), it seems much more likely to continue downward at age 28.He's better than a healthy Bam Knight, Michael Carter, or Israel Abanikanda. Is Dalvin Cook really better than a healthy Breece Hall?

The Dolphins are just sending him on a series of reconnaissance missions before signing him.For all of those already putting Cook on the Jets, he left without a signing a contract and is heading to New England.
I do think that’s where he ends up ultimately. The Dolphins are just sending him on a series of reconnaissance missions before signing him.For all of those already putting Cook on the Jets, he left without a signing a contract and is heading to New England.
You absolutely love to see it.For all of those already putting Cook on the Jets, he left without a signing a contract and is heading to New England.
Weird. I really did think he'd sign there, He even sat watching practices.... unless that's what Bill asked him to doFor all of those already putting Cook on the Jets, he left without a signing a contract and is heading to New England.
What's his hurry? The RB position is evolving every day. A better opportunity may open up. Or, his value may go up.For all of those already putting Cook on the Jets, he left without a signing a contract and is heading to New England.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said after asking around Dolphins training camp, he senses the team views Dalvin Cook as a “luxury” signing.
As Fowler points out, the Dolphins’ view of Cook has “complicated the pursuit a bit.” According to Fowler, the Dolphins “would love to have him,” but there doesn’t appear to be any urgency in getting a deal done with the veteran running back. Cook has apparently run into the same complication with the Jets, who visited with the teams last weekend but left without a deal. Cook will undoubtedly find a home this season, but he may have to wait until a team views him as more of a necessity.
I heard at first he was looking for $9-10M and preferred two years.Does anyone have an idea what Cook is asking for? How many years?
How much guaranteed money?
He does have the advantage that many teams probably still consider him an elite RB. Some teams will be smart, see the advanced stats, etc. But we know there are some old school teams who will look at the name and the production/highlights to think that Cook is special. Now they still know that at his age and with his injury history his value is limited but I would suspect some teams greatly prefer him short term to Money and Miles.I heard at first he was looking for $9-10M and preferred two years.Does anyone have an idea what Cook is asking for? I always thought he'd settle on being able to beat or get on par with what Miles and Montgomery got, which is $6-6.5, except on a one year deal. I don't think the market is quite there yet but he might be able to get it.
A lot harder being a FA in July/August then in March, especially one with some other players at your position still sitting around.
That meme is the gift that keeps on giving.
Soon it’s going to be that Bernie Sanders with a scarf meme from a few years ago.
Whatever Cook ends up getting for a contract, MIN will pay the first $2M of it. He doesn’t get to double dip. If he can’t get a deal for more than $2M (unlikely), then Cook will get $2M total between MIN and his new team. At least that’s what I read (that there is offset language in his old contract). Can someone clarify his $2m pay. If he signs with another team does he still get that money from Minn?
I’m pretty sure the Vikings will only owe Cook any $$$ if he signs for less than $2 million. The Vikings would be obligated to make up the difference. For example if Cook signs with the Jets for $1.5 million, the Vikings would have to pay Cook $500 thousand to make up the difference. In all likelihood Vikings won’t have to pay any $$$ to Cook, no way in the world he will sign a contract for less than $2 million.Whatever Cook ends up getting for a contract, MIN will pay the first $2M of it.
