I actually forget on Yahoo, if I drop a player on Saturday/Sunday (to prevent someone scooping him up before then), I will have a shot to get him back if he clears Week 6 waivers and no one claims him on the 15th.

It may be an irrational hope, as all evidence points against it so far, but just have a gut feeling Darrel's going to resurface and be a factor in this offense down the stretch.

Unless something has changed this year, on Yahoo, you are actually barred from placing a waiver claim on a player you dropped.

You would need to drop them Friday, and then there's a short window of time on Sunday for people to make a pickup in free agency.

Thanks for the info.  I needed to write more clearly.

This happened to me two years ago - it's possible it may only apply for the weekend waivers.  I dropped a player on a Saturday and while I submitted a waiver bid, my waiver was denied when waivers processed.  I was able to submit it but if I recall correctly, the rejection stated I couldn't put in a bid for a player I had dropped.

I hope I'm not spreading false information here...I'll try to verify this and see what I can find.  Appreciate your input.

Wait, are you saying if I dropped them Friday, it makes a difference of when I could pick him back up in the coming week's waiver period?

I was under the impression that regardless if I dropped him Friday after 1 PM Eastern, he would likely get locked down regardless once Sunday came around. Then when waivers ran the following Tuesday, I couldn't make a claim for him in that period as I dropped him, but if he cleared the waivers Wed AM, I could.

How does this actually work?

To be clear, that's my experience as well -- you can't make a claim for a player you dropped on the weekend in the very next waiver period.

If, however, that player clears waivers without being claimed on Tuesday waivers, you could pick him back up Wed AM.

Correct.  As to what I wrote about Friday, my league has a one day waiver period.  For Yahoo, a "day" starts at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.  I live in the Central time zone, so that's 2 a.m. my time the next day.  So if I drop a player on Friday, his waiver day doesn't start til Saturday.  Thus, he clears waivers at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, and is a free agent until his games begin.  When I have to try to sneak a player through, that's what I try to do.

I'm keeping one more week, because of the prior injuries to Shady and Damien, but also because of 3 plays where he seemed to be more than a JAG. There was the 40+ yard run where he reached the 5th highest speed of the week. The 30+ yard snag of a bullet from Mahomes. Even better, was the first down he made to seal the Houston game on 3rd and 8 or 9, where he caught a short pass in traffic and muscled his way to a first down.

My thinking is why drop him for some other flavor of the week garbage when we already saw how productive he can be in a pinch. This is a league winning lottery ticket... I’m holding.

I've long suspected the NFL is scripted - now you've ruined the ending this Sunday! 😎

In all seriousness though, this is where I'm at.  Considered dropping him for Reggie Bonnafon, aka flavor of the week, but Darrel is less of an unknown than some other lottery tickets.  I'll hold while I have the roster space.

What is weird to me is your experience, as this is my normal experience -- Yahoo does not allow you to drop a player and then pick him right back up without that player clearing waivers first.

This just might be a function of setting -- I believe the commish can set the period of time a player can be on waivers, from no waiver period (which I guess your league uses if you are able to immediately pick a player back up) to a day plus, which is what my experience (and the experience @rschroeder1) is.

If you are using any kind of "X to Wednesday morning" waiver cycle on Yahoo this is normal. If I have first priority and drop a player, I shouldn't be able to claim him first because I'm effectively expanding my roster by one spot. Rather than deal with that, Yahoo simply excludes the "dropper" from the process entirely.

No, I can’t pick him right back up, I meant I can place a faab on him today after dropping him last night

lol. The Ravens game. Darrel sealed the Ravens game. I'm sacrificing getting a good 2nd kicker, Prater, which comes in handy in my  16 team league.

 
If he's an FA Saturday morning I'm back in. The KC backfield is very fertile ground. Perhaps we're waiting for the next Kareem Hunt to emerge and that wait won't be rewarded but such is the nature of the lottery ticket.

Welp -- looks like a bunch of other teams are going to have a shot at Darrel Williams later in the season as the early adopters are forced to drop him. At least in short-bench leagues.

Even after today ... Darrel Williams still smells like one of those guys who emerges in Weeks 9-10-11 ... something like that, and ends up making a difference late in the FFB regular season and in the playoffs. Pretty clearly needs an injury for relevance, though.

 
Again, my bias is clearly showing.

That catch and run for 52 was nice -- perfectly blocked and the perfect situation, so Darrel had some help there.

But aside from it being a play any of the 3 backs would have turned into a gain, am I crazy to say Darrel just deserves the shot here?

Darrel was hardly used outside of that catch. Not sure Damien's snap count or target total, but he was 1/6 on the ground.

All credit due, Damien's 14 yard catch and run was nice, and not sure you can say a TD was automatic -- he showed good vision.

But he's simply not as dynamic of a COP as Darrel can be.

He was barely used any more. 2 touches. Shady got 10 (including 2 catches for 0 yards). For now, this is just a backfield to avoid. I get it sounds weird to say with such a historic offense, but there's Fukushima levels of volatility here. Run fast, run far far away.

 
He's on my bench while I need to plug in someone for Kamara. So, Murphy's Law sez Darrel goes nuts tonight   :wall:  

 
Struggling what to do, have Darrel Henderson but Darrel Williams was dropped the other day. Not sure if I should drop Henderson for Williams before the game or not. Ugh!! Haha

 
He definitely is in the game on 3rd down...still think at some point this season he will find himself starting. He's a strained muscle away from seeing some real action and he continues to look good when given the ball. 

There's not much else we can do except hope or wish.

That's why I will continue to hold him and Chase Edmonds. Two guys who have shown that they will produce with opportunity... better than holding some guys like Peyton Barber, for sure.

My RB5 and RB6 are this guy and Henderson from the Rams. I have 3 Quality starting RBs up top so I'm totally OK waiting for these lottery tickets to emerge. But even if they could be the COP back with a real role of 8-10 touches a game they can make great throw ins on a trade potentially to ice the deal.

I dropped him this morning to pick up Darnold to pair with Allen down the stretch. Miami on the schedule 4 times!!  Feeling good about my decision.

With Mahomes out, D's will stack the line against the Chiefs and double Hill.

 
Darrel Williams rushed twice for one yard in the Chiefs' Week 7 win over the Broncos, adding two receptions for five additional yards.

Both of Williams' carries came inside the five-yard line, but he couldn't notch the score. With Damien Williams back, Darrel has totaled just four touches over the past three weeks. Moving on.

I’m hoping to grab Darnold to hold me over for the length of absence that Mahomes is out. I’m torn between dropping Drake or Landry now and grabbing him, or getting lucky and being able to place Kamara on IR and grabbing Darnold over the weekend.

That Jets schedule looks tasty after this weekend.

It’s obviously not looking good for Darrel in  re-draft with McCoy and Damien around.

Any thoughts about his dynasty value though?

Have to figure McCoy/Damien are one year stopgaps. Of course, there’s always the specter of  Thompson.

I doubt KC's future RB solution is on the roster.

 
Goal line carries in the last game and an overthrow in the end-zone in the prior game. Let us not forget the chunk plays and TDs when Damien was out. He still has a pulse in FF. Barely.

In a redraft he certainly has value particularly, as you said, for TD upside. 

But, barring an injury he's a desperation spec low upside play. He needs a TD to return any value and multiple TDs to provide anything other than low-end starter replacement level production...at best.

Darrel is the Brandon Bolden of KC. Does it all, even special teams, but not a long-term starter.

I want to believe this, but then why doesn't he give him more touches? Damien Williams has been dreadful, if he's "stuck" behind him that's a pretty big red flag IMO.

Good question - perhaps he has an affinity for veterans that are best at protecting Mahomes.

 
I have this awful feeling the minute I cut him his value will rise. When he was called upon he did pretty well. 

Damien Williams was cut in my league.
