RB De’Von Achane, MIA (2 Viewers)

Shoot that wheel up with some pain killers and get me some fantasy points!
Are thy still allowed to do that?
"Who's gonna know?"
I have his rookie backup, I need Achane to be all in or out before I can decide who to start.
He would and if they numb it and he tears it up , looking at a lawsuit.
It's like my coach use to tell me...
"Pain is temporary... Trophy's are forever"
Now GET OUT There and PLAY!

Achane's rookie season was similar to Kamara's in that he busted out and looked great doing so. Both RBs are elite talents that bring something special to the table that others don't. Kamara's contact balance and shiftiness is uncanny. Achane's vision and open field running is some of the best in the league. He is very slippery and runs well in traffic for his size. He is a great pass catcher which is big for NFL RBs these days. They used Achane in all sorts of motion/runs/tosses/inside pitches etc. They used him a lot in the red zone - I believe he had 6 TDs from the red zone. That also means he hit 5 home run TDs. He can score from anywhere. 3 rushing TDs were against BUF which is awesome being a Fins fan! :flex:

Achane is in a perfect offense for him, he is an elite talent AND he is getting targets. The targets are great to boost his PPG and getting him in space.

I wouldn't be surprised if his receiving TDs go up this year. He will be getting more than 40 targets this year. Right now he looks to be the 3rd option in the passing game - they are already using him out wide this pre-season. It is happening.

I expect him to improve on his rookie season. Miami is already working on getting him more involved.

People are pointing out injuries but I ask, "how many RBs play a true full season?" Yes Achane could get injured but so will every other RB. When he was in college he was playing football but also sprinting. He has a full offseason now to condition himself for football and prepare his body for football.

If you are worried about injuries are you also avoiding CMC, Hall, Taylor, Gibbs, Etienne, Barkley, Kyren, Walker, Henry and the list goes on. Everyone has been injured. Each of those RBs could get injured again and likely will.

So, for me, the only thing that gives me pause is his ADP in some drafts/leagues. As for talent - he's a top 5 RB IMO as he can do it all. We do know this will be a timeshare but with 8-10 carries and 5 targets a game he can produce RB1 season and be a weekly RB1. There were a few times when Waddle got dinged up that they moved Achane into Waddles spot. Nice to know they had confidence in the rookie.

One more offseason getting ready for the NFL will do wonders for Achane. As a Fins fan I'm excited to see what he can do.
The main difference between Archane and Kamara is about 35 lbs. I love both of these guys but the reality is RBs that only weigh 180 lbs carry a greater injury risk. It's simple physics. And he looks smaller than his listed weight. Again I love what he brings and I am targeting him in some leagues.
Why exaggerate the weight? It isn't 35lbs. You don't need to change numbers to make the point. I don't disagree that lighter backs have a bit more risk but him and Kamara were the same size coming out of college. I already spoke about his weight and that he was keeping it lower for sprinting in college. Give him a season to mature and fill out. He weighed in at 192 once he got to Miami. Here are his words from the Miami Herald

Achane said he measured 192 pounds Friday morning, which is the heaviest he has been, and the full commitment to football has allowed him to get bigger. “I always knew that I could gain weight,” he said. “I just didn't have the full offseason to gain weight because obviously I was doing track. May 12, 2023

Moreover Kamara was 185lbs in college. These boys fill out as they mature.

Like I said, any back you draft is an injury risk. Just take the good ones. I will say Achane is a good one.
Well here we are, didn't even make it to week 2 and he is dinged up. Yes he is a good one, possibly great, but the injury risk is simply higher given his size. I hope he plays tonight. Also the 35lbs was not an exaggeration. Teams play games with listed height and weight all the time. The eye test puts him at about 180 lbs. And Kamara is a legit 215 and was that weight in college at Tennessee as well. He was over 195 in high school in GA. Maybe Achane is 190 in pads after drinking a gallon of water. I would bet a large amount on the under. If he is 192 then Deuce Vaughn is 6ft tall.
Awesome, a told you so post. Appreciate it. 20pts week 1, hasn't missed week 2 yet but if he doesn't put up 20pts in week 2 I look forward to your next post.
I hope he does put up 20 pts. I never want to see players get hurt and he is super talented.

What time would Achane hit the field for warmups to test his injury?

Just curious how much time I'll have to make the wrong decision.
We will know 90 minutes before kickoff when they announce the inactives
Perfect.

Plenty of time to screw this up.
I’m starting him if he plays. I figure I’d hate it more if he went off on my bench than if he put up a dud while in. . . . Either way would stink though. Haha.

Here’s to a big game in our lineups!

There is always the risk he suits up and is there "just in case". MIA could run Wilson as the starter and Wright as the back-up and change of pace.

The one thing we don't know is the severity but he went through warm-up and walk through yesterday with no issues it seems. So it is promising - but there is risk.

If you aren't comfortable and have better options then go a different route. If you need points this week to win your match-up then risk it for the biscuit.

I lean to starting him as the news since yesterday has been fairly positive. I also would likely feel comfortable starting Wilson if I was in a desperate pinch at RB.

I'll be monitoring the news leading up to the game very closely.

I wouldn't play him.
Long season and they seem to love Wright. Gets Achane time off before next game
His whole game is speed and how fast will he be?

ETA and I think both teams backs were meh last year in these matchups

Apparently they don’t love weight because they have Achane.:)
Heh this board and autocorrect gets me a lot. I never know if it's me or the correction either
I know, but I couldn’t resist the temptation.

Don't forget it's a divisional game and both teams have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. I think if he plays it's because he/they think he is healthy enough to make plays. Still leaning towards starting Wilson regardless in a couple of thin spots. I wouldn't have hesitated if it was a "healthy" Mostert behind a banged up Achane. I don't think Wright leapfrogs Wilson unless he blows the roof off the doors.

Remote but significantly greater than zero chance the Dolphins blow the roof off the doors of the Bills and bench an active Achane earliesh and Wilson/Wright close out a blow out. I'm not calling it just yet, but my fear all offseason had been that the Bills offense with Diggs/Gabe >>>>>>>> Bills offense with whatever they have out there at WR now and we may be seeing that play out right now. Allen is a baller but I think this game has Wilson 15-20 carries written all over it unless Josh Allen blows the roof off the doors.

Wilson is probably a decent flex play whether Achane plays or not.

agreed, I hate doing that on Thursday games though. seems to always backfire on me.

Assuming active, would anyone start Achane and Wilson? I know that asks questions about options but i'm talking about middling ones like J.Ford and Monty?

I know the feeling all too well.

I think so too. I think he gets the lion’s share of the carries.

Just for the hell of it I’m still benching Javante Williams and Jaylen Warren for Wright in one league. I hope I’m Wright.
Why :sad @Gally ? Is Wright inactive? It’s not as if Javante and Warren are good plays. Might as well have some fun with it.
Wright is active for Thursday night's game against the Bills, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.

Spin: Wright, who was a healthy scratch in Week 1, will enter Miami's backfield mix Thursday with Raheem Mostert (chest) inactive. Meanwhile, De'Von Achane (ankle) who had been listed as questionable, is active and figures to see his share of touches in the absence of any setbacks, with Jeff Wilson also a candidate to see increased work versus Buffalo. With that in mind, it remains to be seen how many touches Wright will handle in his NFL regular-season debut, but the speedy fourth-round rookie does possess intriguing playmaking upside in Miami's offense.

Starting him over the likes of Metcalf and Pickens. Nervous he won't have much of a workload and Wilson will eat but the potential is still pretty high

"They love Wright"? Odd statement but yeah they drafted him and probably have plan for him but week 1 he was 4th on the depth chart. I myself really like Wright but I'm in a wait and see mode to see if they trust a rookie in a big division game vs BUF.

"Both backs" meh.... are you talking about Achane? He had 100+ yards rushing vs BUF in the first game and 2 TDs. He had 50 yards and a TD in his second game vs BUF. 26 and 13pts in those games. 3 TDS total. Pretty good.

Not saying anything about the game tonight just saying he put up 160 yards and 3 TDs total last year in the 2 games vs BUF.

I'm not starting him over Dobbins and Pittman/Moss. I can't have him duck out of the game with an injury with those guys sitting on my bench playing Carolina, Green Bay, and Kansas City respectively.

And Big Nate, you're killing me! 160 and 3 TDs? Ay de mi. But did he do it on a balky ankle?

You know what? I'm sticking to my guns. No Achane tonight for me. Wilson in the other league. I'm actually betting heavily against this guy if you stop to think about what I'm laying down. That's probably unwise.
