RB Derrius Guice, Free Agent (1 Viewer)

I dont think this changes a whole lot for a rational Guice owner.

Most of us, who weren't looking through rose colored glasses, weren't really counting on Guice until about week 6 or so; the consensus seemed to be that Guice would be eased in. I dont think this changes that, aside from the fact that Guice appears to have pushed a little bit. It's not a surprise. He's still too early removed from his surgery, and his infection puts him probably 2 months behind from a strengthening standpoint.

I dont think this changes much aside from a week ago I would have said Guice gets some touches to start the season, and now I'd say he gets very little for the first month. Regardless I wouldn't put him in my lineup

This may open the door ever so slightly for Bruce love to get some reps if he can prove he is healthy enough himself.   Both of them coming off ACLs and I think guise was further along in recovery.

Significant risk for compensation injury?
yes absolutely, if not adequately strong
And here we are
Hey Doc,

'Apparently' soft tissue issues are the norm coming back from injuries of this type.

Compensatory hamstring injuries quite often a part of ACL recovery. Believe Dalvin Cook had the same thing last year?

-----------------------------------------------

Happened weeks ago and he 'appears' to be mending well from the most-recent reports.

-----------------------------------------------

Travis Robinson‏ @skinzfantrav 13h13 hours ago

Sounds like it was weeks ago. I’m reading people saying he was squating over 500 pounds yesterday. This might be a ideal and very small but low window!!!

------------------------------------------------

You called the compensatory injury so how do you see this playing out now that he's had a hiccup?

Yes, this is extremely common. I talked about this in the Cook thread a bit. Especially when they use a hamstring graft.

I'd use Dalvin Cook as a good example of what to expect. It depends how they want to handle it. I dont think MIN handled Cooks injury smart

Interesting that this happened weeks ago. Could be a great buy low right now.

Derrius Guice downplayed his recent hamstring injury, stating there's "no reason" for concern.

This was in response to a Twitter user, who noted many were "freaking out" over his recent setback. Guice added, "I don't listen to the noise. I know what's going on with me." The injury occurred weeks ago and it's entirely possible that the second-year back will be up and running by the time training camp starts later this month. That being said, Guice's current mid-round ADP is a tough ask coming off last year's ACL tear, especially with Adrian Peterson a threat to his workload on early downs.

Athlon Sports believes Georgia redshirt junior WR Demetris Robertson is a wild card.

Robertson (6'0/190) is one of the biggest wild cards in the conference. A former five-star recruit, Robertson has been a disappointment thus far but has plenty of opportunity for a true breakout season in 2019. The Bulldogs lost lots of talent at receiver and Jake Fromm elevates his teammates. Robertson is a sleeper 2020 NFL Draft prospect. We just have to go back to 2016 at Cal to find tape to watch.

What's he going to say though?  I'm doomed forever.

He's had set back after set back.  I'm avoiding like the plague.  Peterson moving up my board.

Guy hurt his hamstring 2-3 weeks ago, he's just setting the record straight

Peterson shouldnt be moving up anyone's board unless you've moved him from round 13 to round 12

Confirmed now by beat reporter Craig Hoffman, news broke today, but happened a few weeks ago, tweaked, minor not much added concern, according to Team...
Just trying to get Anarchy League 2 off the ground. Are you in or out for this year? Couldn't leave you a message.

You don’t think Peterson is the RB1 in Washington this year?
I won't call him the RB1, but I don't think Guice will just be handed the job either.  By season's end it will be Haskins and Guice - but at the start of the season it will be Keenum and Peterson.  When and how that transition takes places is anyone's guess.  I think Peterson will still have some very good games the first half of the year.

I'm not sure that I've ever seen an entire offense so jumbled going into a season. I couldn't tell you who was going to be the leading passer, rusher, or receiver on that team. In redraft fantasy football the "safest" pick from that entire roster? Jordan Reed probably. The same guy that misses about 1/3rd of the season every year, and is never REALLY HEALTHY for more than half of the games. That's when you know you are screwed. Of course if they really do end up starting Flowers because Williams won't play for them maybe it gets a lot easier..... just avoid 'em all.

I thought Geron Christian would be the starter at left tackle if Williams was out?  I actually got a few messages from Geron on facebook for a canoe I was selling on the "marketplace."

Regardless of the left tackle, 'avoid them all' is a solid strategy.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Derrius Guice (hamstring) won't be limited at training camp.

Guice has been cleared to practice without restrictions. It's great news after conflicting reports over his hamstring. Guice has a ton of injury risk, but there's breakout potential for him in a run-friendly scheme. Even if Guice stays healthy, he needs to hold off Adrian Peterson for early-down work.

The Miami Dolphins say hi.

Derrius Guice said he was a full participant at practice on Thursday.

This confirms coach Jay Gruden's Wednesday comments that Guice will be ready for camp. Guice said he felt great in the first day of camp, so his hamstring injury from earlier this month looks to be behind him. After an August ACL tear kept him on the sidelines last season, Guice will be competing for carries with Adrian Peterson.

Drafted Guice last year to keep him for peanuts this year. I’m not worried. But I’m not expecting much from him the first half of the year - which I hope is the case, I hope they take it slow. I just hope the Skins offense can get their #### together and move the ball.

+1

Ease him in and let him build confidence both mentally and physically.

Some very encouraging comments from a writer at Skins camp about Guice

"Guice has shown no signs of his injury as he has shown great speed, burst, and cuts through the hole. He is running far more confident than most I've seen after a torn ACL. He doesn't appear to be holding back."

He also said AP looks to be in great shape and Chris Thompson still has his speed.

As I've been looking at the state of each team and making a list of targets in redraft for each, the skins were the only team where I wrote down no names.....might change over the next few weeks, but for redraft this season, looks like a big dumpster fire.

Somebody will be useful for the Redskins. Its basically impossible for a team to not have at least 1 fantasy player worth starting. Whether its Guice running away with the RB job, Reed staying healthy and featured, or maybe even Trey Quinn being a PPR value, somebody will be start worthy.

Oh I'm sure you're right.  I'm just going to avoid at this point, mainly because I don't trust Gruden and the QB sitch.

Haskins hit Guice on a back shoulder fade down the sideline today, then came back to him immediately on a wheel route.

We may be underestimating how much play Guice gets in the receiving game. Hard to say. He seems equipped for it.

Had him just as talented as Nick Chubb last year. Not sure after his boo, boo.

You more or less luck into this guy. Nobody is reaching for him but people are smart enough to know when he’s the last starter on the board.

if there is any hope in us not sucking big time this year its going to be Guice and Haskins. And hopefully Quinn and a rookie WR can step up for the passing game.

John Keim @john_keim

Gruden on Derrius Guice: increasing the work load on a daily basis... Says he "feels good, looks good." Liked that one day last week caught a rail route and ran 80 yards; next play 50 yards outside zone; next play blitz pickup. Right now hard to see the power; will see in games.

I like this trade a lot. Honestly I think it's a free Golladay
Close to my thinking. My team lost in the Championship last year and I think has a chance to compete again this year.

Was important to replace the expected 0 from my lineup into guaranteed Week 1 points. I love Melvin Gordon but I feel the upside of the two guys I received warranted the risk.

Guice on Melvin's level is such a joke.

Melvin was the RB3 in PPG prior to his injury last season....ahead of Kamara. But now he's equal to a player who fell to the end of the 2nd round in the NFL Draft, tore his ACL, zero NFL carries, had other knee complications in the offseason, and now is listed behind a 34 year old RB in the depth chart?

Considering it’s dynasty, I like the trade. I think Guice has potential to be as good as Gordon, who hasn’t been all that and a bag of chips outside of last year (when I had him) and who also has been banged up.

ACL isn’t exactly the kiss of death, and that “34 year old RB” he’s listed behind is a freak of nature possible HOF running back. I think you may be selling AP a little short there. ;)

For the future Guice could be an absolute stud, rare 25+ touch 3-down feature back on a run-heavy team.

Sure, there’s risk, but I like the trade. I’m high on Golladay as well.
