RB Ezekiel Elliott, LAC (3 Viewers)

It is a strange position that you are arguing.  You seem to be saying that Zeke didn't look good,  but that Dallas should have given him the ball more?
That’s your framing, not mine.

i’ve said several times that it was a small sample size, so we don’t really know what Zeke looks like. But overall, on the one play I was specifically commenting on there, Zeke didn’t look particularly fast or powerful to the edge.

Also, separately, I believe the Cowboys should have run more than four times in the first half, regardless of who they did it with. I continue to believe that.

these were mutually exclusive trains of thought. Nothing strange about it.

Great game and a lot to be excited about.  Don't sleep on Zeke.
last night looked an awful lot like the same Cowboys I saw last year with Dalton behind center.

All offseason the talk was about establishing the run, leaning on Zeke, getting Zeke back to his roots, best shape of his life, etc.

I didn’t imagine these things - here’s a sampling:

And yet they played shotgun almost exclusively. I’d say “exclusively”, but I got up to get a taco at one point & missed a play or two. I know how importantly folks take accuracy on here, so I’m hedging just in case there was a play called behind center I missed.

Folks are saying this was smart football by the Cowboys. Look how close they were to winning like this.look how tough TB’s run D is. Why even try to run it?

I’ve watched a lot of football. I’ve never seen a team so invested in a RB act so scared to run the ball.

They came out one dimensional, and I’m a little shocked the game was even close as a result.

I’ll believe Dallas wants to run the ball when I see it. 1 game, small sample size, sure.  I was shocked by that game plan. It looked like Dallas surrendered the run game before even trying. Maybe it was on Martin’s absence. I’ve conceded that possibility. But if Zeke is such a weapon, why run him into the flat & ignore him every time?

For whatever their reasoning, the game plan the Cowboys came out with shrunk the playbook, and produced an exciting game that IMO, wasn’t great football.

I’d be very weary of EE until I see Dallas actually commit to the run.

I’m sure everyone will disagree with this, and that’s ok. We all have our takes.

Great! Now Lionel Collins is suspended 5 games.

It’s over!
Oof.
“Per Schefter, Collins was popped for violating the NFL's policy and program on substances of abuse after failing to appear for scheduled drug tests. He returned to the field at full strength on Thursday following a missed year of his career with a hip injury in 2020, but it's all a moot point since the 28-year-old will suddenly be sidelined through Week 6 and return to the field following the team's bye in Week 8. It's a disastrous development for an offense that had high hopes for both running the ball efficiently and keeping Dak upright throughout the year.

Hey @Hot Sauce Guy we have had our times of being on the same side of the fence and on the opposite.  Without some nextgen stats and a Chris Collinsworth voice-over, who sucks btw.  I am mostly going to take debate with a grain of salt.

I think the sample size was small and, as a Cowboys fan, I didn't expect much from Zeke last night.  I think they must not have broadcast much of the Red Rifle games in your area.  He was bad.  Dak made some great throws.  Lamb had some drops early he should have caught.  He ran some routes and didn't go where Dak anticipated him, but I thought Dak looked great.  This is the Zeke thread tho.  No disrespect, but it seems like you're really planting your flag in the Zeke has no future and the Cowboys offense sucked.  They were a missed FG away from a win.  Familiarity will come with Lamb and Dak.  Cooper looked like a world beater and carried that drive in the 3rd.  The WR position is deep, because Cedrick Wilson looks like he can take the reigns, if Gallup misses time.

That passing attack is going to open some monster running lanes for Zeke.  Probably not against Tampa, but in the future.  If you can buy Zeke on the low.  Do it now.  That might be an L in the win-loss column, but in the locker room and amongst the fan base it was a win.  We looked light years ahead of last years team.

This team LOVES for Dak to throw the ball. They have 3 good WRs. But the lack of balance is goin to hurt them, it always does. And there defense is awful. Washington is going to win the division comfortably IMO...

I actually thought Dak looked great too. He made some amazing throws, and after a little early hesitation used his legs  to extend plays or get a little yardage.

I haven’t had an unkind word to say about Dak. he was tremendous last night.

I deeply questioned the game plan. That wasn’t a knock on Dak at all.

No disrespect taken, thanks. By looking like last years team, I was speaking purely to Zeke’s usage.

They were impressive. No one should argue otherwise.  But they also played out of the shotgun all night and largely ignored a dude who’s supposed to be a centerpiece player - he’s sure paid like one.

In the Zeke topic I thought this should be worth discussing. If they come out next week committed to the run I’ll comment on that. But they left the locker room not committed to the run, which I find bizarre.

It is one week. No final judgement - just observation.

I'm assuming everyone remembers CMC's 2019 season. Here are CMC's 2019 games against TB:

16 carries for 37 yards

22 caries for 31 yards.

Ok how about 2020?

18 carries for 58 yards.

Running on TB just doesn't really work the past few years. It's crazy to think the Cowboys, losing Martin on short notice, should have run more. They almost won this game! They clearly had a game plan, to attack man coverage whenever they could, and it almost worked.

As a Zeke owner, don't get your hopes on buying low. Unless you're giving me CMC Kamara or Dalvin,  I'm holding.

Buy low.

Going hunting for Zeke and Evans owners this week.

Agree on Zeke.

Evans is getting that #1 corner every week.  Brady will just take the better match up.

I like Godwin, Brown, Gronk more.

I don’t know if Zeke owners are even thinking about selling but Zeke is going to be fine.   He faced a great run D in one game.  Not sure if Zeke is still as fast as he once was but the quickness looked to be the same.

I thought the opposite.  He didnt seem to have that pop when he got the ball.  Same as last year, the quick burst just wasnt like I remember it

And also, the "buy low" posts are simply insane.  No Zeke owner over the age of 6 is going to trade him 1 week into the season unless its a crazy offer and that is the exact opposite of buying low.

I got offered Justin Jackson, Lev Bell and Tonyan for him today. Don't waste my time.
my gut says you are going to regret not accepting this in about 6-8 weeks.  I can see both Jackson and Tonyan becoming hot commodities as the season rolls on.  Lev bell who knows, just a throw in but has an outside chance of producing something in that offense.

I wouldnt accept the deal and I see he is clearly throwing a weak package out there but I kindof see where he is coming from.  If you could get him to throw in a starting wr then thats fair IMO.

This is sarcasm right?

I thought zeke looked great. I have no idea how he got that first- first down cause he was stonewalled and still managed to get positive yardage.

The goaline run should have been a walk in TD if Jarwin doesn’t whiff and I think the field was slippery from the rain so his cut back couldn’t be so sudden/sharpe and that’s why he couldn't make that defender miss.

He looked good to me.

This take is absolutely correct with the throw in a starting WR part.

Provided that thrown-in WR is someone like Hopkins or AJ Brown

I was buying Zeke low last year and I was planning to do it again after week 1 of this year as I expected him to struggle against the Bucs.  I know it's just one play but man that goaline run reminded me so much of Gurley 2019 when the wheels were starting to fall off.

It's probably silly as there are reasons he might have looked so bad on that one play, but it just really stuck out to me after being burned by buying "low" on Gurley before.

I mean, if there was ever a game when a RB has an advantage in a 1 on 1 matchup to the edge with “fresh legs”, I would think it would be game 1.

I would not be a buyer on Elliott - regardless of whether he’s washed or not (and btw, Harris football is all-in on the “Zeke is washed” train & has been for a while) I fear more games like this where the Cowboys come out throwing 80% & playing exclusively out of the shotgun.

even if Zeke’s in his prime, he’s not gonna be very FF relevant in that situation.

The Bucs aren’t the only decent run defense in the NFL, and that game script was a complete surrender of the run game.  I know folks here are saying it was a smart move, but that doesn’t make me keen to invest in that team’s RB.

Zeke will be fine but I think it's gonna be a struggle. I regret taking him in two leagues. I loved Aaron Jones, Jonathan Taylor, Austin Ekeler. These guys will be fun to watch. Zeke may get his numbers but he won't be fun to watch. I choked. I was shocked that he fell too me and feared it may be a big mistake to pass on him.

Luckily I'm a genius when it comes to drafting and roster construction so I should be fine.

I offered AB and Mostert and got insta-rejected along with a middle finger emoji

Im not concerned yet lol. They played Tampa Bay away without one of their best lineman. This is definitely not the time to be trading away Zeke.

I’m not seeing it today either.* What’s it looking like to you?

*Working on the house and can’t watch any of the games. I’ll check out the highlights and box scores later.
Pollard is just really impressive.  Seems faster and shiftier than Zeke.  Not by much, but I think they are pretty much equal.
