RB Ezekiel Elliott, LAC (3 Viewers)

The vibe/chemistry on this team looks like a pending train wreck. Now the RB is butthurt at the owner over a joke

There are going to be some major flameouts this season...

Not even remotely. This has been a quiet offseason by Cowboys standards. This is exactly why the Jones' aren't panicking. This is SOP. Zeke is the only dope being a dope. Thats kinda his thing.

What does he do in 2020... hold out again?
If he accrues on more season?  Maybe.  I don't know his contract.

What I do know is that he only has to play either 8 or 6 games (not sure) to accrue a season.  He can hold out part of the year and save his body the wear and still get paid and accrue.  I think that is his play.  Just my opinion.  The next year who knows.  Maybe a repeat, maybe a holdout, who knows.  My crystal ball doesn't go out that far.  ;)

Sweet. So the Cowboys get him for 6 games and for only 6 games worth of salary for the next to years.

SOLD!

The Cowboys picked up his 5th year option so his base salary next year jumps to $9.1 million from $3.8 million. Because of this he will lose more money per game if he holds out next season.

Not sure if we are talking past each other.  If he shows up for a certain number of games, it will count as a season accrued.  He will have one year on his contract left and will make more per game.  I think he comes back sometime around mid-season.

[Mortensen] It drew a few laughs but neither @EzekielElliott nor agent Rocky Arceneaux found @Cowboys Jerry Jones' quip "Zeke who?" as amusing. Arceneaux: "I didn't think it was funny and neither did Zeke - we actually thought it was disrespectful."

A lot of people find it disrespectful to not be in camp when you’re under contract

Somebody’s got a lil Cowboys crush going on

Anyway, what makes you post that the teams vibe/chemistry looks like a pending train wreck?

Correct. He’s under contact for two more years. I’ll pay him for 6 games plus the playoffs for two years. Franchise him and do it again.

Since he wants to play hardball.

Maybe we should give Jerry some credit here.  It's quite possible he's just becoming senile and he legitimately forgot Zeke's last name.

  Why is that every cowboys fan’s response to people pointing out flaws in what is, and has been, a horribly flawed team for decades.  My crush remains on the same team that I watched growing up in Massachusetts... we’re good. ;)

What looks like a train wreck? Aside from the QB turning down $30MM/yr, the top WR wanting a deal while nursing PF, reviving the corpse of a TE from the grave, and the star RB holding out while engaging in a twitter feud with the owner?

I mean if you grew up in a trailer park I guess that might not look like a dumpster fire... but to those who don’t have 29 cowboys logos on their 1998 flareside Ford Pickup... that’s an impending train wreck. ;)

Maybe this has been touched on in this thread as I haven't read through too much of it, but what's the general mood amongst Dallas fans and people in Dallas. Are they on Zeke's side or Jerry's side?

is this really the consensus thought of Cowboys' fans? they screwed up not paying Emmit until a few games already into the season, and literally burned out Murray running him literally into the ground when he was coming up for an extension. i kind of think Zeke, for as much of a dope he has been, has a legit gripe here. if he doesn't holdout, i think it is better than a 50% chance they pull a Demarco Murray on him and run him into the ground the next 2 years just to let him walk

What, Murray is dead? Burned and then run into the ground? 😞

Somebody's going to jail for this I would think. Even in Texas.

When Zeke doesn’t pull himself out of games gasping for air several times on Sunday’s and the commissioners office in weekdays we can start to compare the two.

Not everyone is obsessed with the Cowboys as much as the media and Eagles fans.

you have to agree that the way the Cowboys treated DeMarco Murray was non-player friendly at best right? i mean i agree, it is always funny seeing fatty Zeke running up to cameras to be fed more, but there is a history here that gives him and his team some legit ground to stand on. why sacrifice his career already?

I agree.  I actually can't fault Zeke for this one.  Especially if they go into the season with bad-ish blood, and no new deal, I'd think they'd run him into the ground and use him as much as possible.  Still think the sides come to a deal though but today's thing is just so odd.

Wait, so Zeke’s not “workhorse” enough?  His 25 touches per game average through three seasons isn’t enough?  Yeah, definitely needs to quit asking for breathers.

Meh, by all accounts everything is fine with Dak and Cooper, they reported, they haven’t complained, they’ll be fine. You’re exaggerating quite a bit imo (tho Coopers foot has me worried tbh)

I read here quite a bit, I haven’t seen you post much in the other SP threads that’s why I busted your balls about the crush. You’re pretty active in this one. We’LL see how it all shakes out

The Cowboys goofed giving Demarcus Lawrence Zeke’s money. Demarcus refuses to repair his shoulder until he got his big deal, and the Cowboys blinked pronto. Now they play hard ball?

Ya @[icon] , the "you're obsessed with us" burn is such a hurtful one isn't it?  It's quite clever and unique.
Good stuff here lmao. There’s been ten times more Cowboys talk in the Eagles thread than the Cowboys thread in the last 2 months lmao. I haven’t commented on any of it in there because I didn’t want to hear you cry about it

That's cause the cowboys thread is dead and boring.  You're so obsessed with philly fans!  Such a crush!

This doesn’t even make sense

:oldunsure:

At all

:oldunsure:
It was a joke.  Anytime a Philly fan says anything all you do is say the same exact thing about how we're obsessed with you.  I don't even know how that's a burn that we talk about the Cowboys.  It's really all you have and it's pretty weak.  But sure, I'm obsessed with the cowboys and dream about them all night.  Such crushes on your team we have.  So sad that you call us out on these huge crushes.

You brought your crush up sunshine, not me.

And “anytime a Philly fan says anything at all” horse#### has been proven wrong upthread

Have a great evening

Anyways back to Zeke.

It's interesting how far he is slipping right now.  Just did a slow draft that started today and he went 1.11.  Another one he went 1.04.  1.07 in a third.  I always thought the Gordon situation was much worse than his but not looking good right now.  Going to need to get Pollard before those owners jump on him.

Is not caving with 2 years left on a contract considered hard ball now?

eta - it is the opposite of hardball.. the Cowboys literally have to do nothing.  Nothing at all.  They are going above and beyond entertaining the negotiation.

No way they make playoffs without Zeke and that’s all that matters

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

He has 2 years on his contract, the Cowboys are not "playing hard ball now".  They don't have to "play ball" at all.  Zeke is trying to play hard ball, but this threat is all he has.  And nobody buys Zeke retiring.

But they would need to keep the cap space available since he’s under contract.

ETA: but they could carry over the unused part to the following season.

This seems like where it is headed.  Zeke holds out until he has to come back to get credit for the season.  Cowboys may sneak into the playoffs and will be a great team in the playoffs with Zeke.

Sure the Cowboys went ahead and assumed their team’s best player would happily play for less $$ than the corpse of Jason Witten. The Cowboys gambled yep

so weird seeing a fanbase happy their most talented player isn't out there playing, and sitting back encouraging the creepy old pervert owner who has been gifted loads of money

I have no idea what you are even trying to say.  His contract was dictated by his draft position.

Also, Zeke is making 300k more base salary than Witten?  You are a mess.

eta - Zeke's cap hit is north of $7.9M (salary+prorated bonus).. remember the little $16M bonus/$25M guarantee?

Take a breath, son. You seem upset

Running backs are a different animal in the NFL. People saying he needs to suck it up for 2 years while he's the best RB in the league making less than most of the oline are ridiculous. Zeke is doing the only thing he can do. Holdout till they pay him something close to what he's worth while he is still standing upright. He has some leverage. Not all of it. And he needs to get paid before Dak and Cooper in his eyes because there won't be anything left after that. This is the only play Zeke has because Jerry won't be loyal to him if he should tear an acl this or next year. Then he'll be SOL on making money for the rest of his career.

I'm good, you seem confused.

Certainly misinformed - about "playing hard ball" (Zeke is under contract), about the Cowboys "gambling" (Zeke's contract is part of the rookie CBA), and about him making less than Witten (he isn't).

In hindsight, that covers about your entire run here.

I don't think what Jerry said was smart at all. It was disrespectful and it certainly didn't help the situation. I think Zeke deserves more money and should get it.

Dallas isn't going anywhere without him.

100% disagree. He's just a cog. Maybe a top-10 player on the team...maybe. Pollard is likely only a small drop off. They got over 1,000 yards from end of career Darren McFadden, and several quality starts from Alfred Morris 2 years ago.

The Cowboys goofed giving Demarcus Lawrence Zeke’s money. Demarcus refuses to repair his shoulder until he got his big deal, and the Cowboys blinked pronto. Now they play hard ball?
Lawrence is a much better, and more important player than Zeke. Plus he was in a contract year. Paying him over Zeke was a no-brainer. Dak, Cooper, Byron Jones, and Jaylon Smith are all more important than Zeke too, and all of them need contracts soon.

Zeke has even less leverage than Gordon, who has none himself. 90% certain both offenses barely notice they are gone if they hold out into the season.
