RB Gus Edwards, Free Agent (1 Viewer)

I have no desire to gamble on Dobbins off an achilles.

Gus had 990 total yards and 13 TD's last year. That's pretty good production for a JAG. I think he's in an even better situation this year. No Keaton Mitchell or Justice Hill to eat into his touches.

Vidal could have a role. But if your concern is that Gus is a JAG--are we sure a rookie that went in the 6th round isn't...also a JAG?

JAG or not, he's the best back on the roster.

And I'd also add we've had plenty of TOP 20 fantasy RBs that are JAGs.

Maybe I'm counting Dobbins out too soon, but I think Edwards is being super underrated.
FBG has him ranked INSANELY high.
Who is ranked insanely high - Dobbins or Edwards?
Edwards. He is their RB18 in Standard. 1 spot behind D. Achane, and ahead of J. Conner, A. Kamara, Z. White, R. Stevenson, N. Harris, R. Mostert, A. Jones, etc.

Seems very very high, no? They must believe he is the clear cut starter in LA.

Holy cow! Yes, that is very high, as if they already are counting Dobbins as a goner.

18 is too high for me, and I think he’s the clear cut starter.

For 0.5 PPR, they have him at RB23. For PPR around RB30.

I’ve got him at 28 or 29 in 0.5. Probably moves down a few more spots in full.

Nice read Joe. The GMs comments are pretty straightforward. Edwards isn't that guy you look at in your roster and think heck ya, but I have a sneaky feeling he is gonna be that guy u look back on and think thank goodness I drafted him.

Thanks. The Chargers are one of the most interesting teams this year I think. I loved how Jason broke things down there making a case for the pros and cons.

Yep. The one thing we know for sure is that coaching staff is gonna run. And run. And run.. Will end up top 5 in rushing attempts at end of year.

And that's what makes it fun. I think for me it's more "I THINK that staff is going to run". I've learned there are few things I know for sure!

The plan certainly seems to be moving to the run though. And it's how we're forecasting the Chargers. I can't wait to see if we're right.

Gus could be a poor man's version of 2023 Mostert (since he's not as good a receiver as Mos). Except for the '23 Fins WRs were excellent (unlike the '24 Chargers) but maybe that's a net positive in Gus's situation.

Been beating the drum all off-season.

I think he's the best RB on the roster by a good bit. Others have told me he's a JAG. And maybe he is. But Dobbins coming off an Achilles with a previous ACL tear: Is he even a JAG? Vidal is the new flavor of the week. People love the shiny new rookie. But he was drafted in what, the 5th or 6th round. He's proven nothing in the NFL.

Some people have decided they prefer Dobbins or Vidal at cost. And admittedly, they're both cheaep. But so is Edwards. Sleeper 1/2 PPR ADP is 109. That's start of the 10th round.
Yahoo has him going end of the 8th/start of the 9th.

I actually don't buy into the Chargers running it so much belief for a few reasons. And I still really like Edwards. If you think the Chargers are going to deliver on that whole leading the league in rushing attempts--you should be sky high on him.

Great RB3/Flex option that would be easy to flip to a RB needy team in the middle of the season.
That’s what I told myself all last season while I owned him. But nobody was buying. He did win me some matchups with some big multi td games when I had to start him. Which I could see him doing again. It’s just hard to know when those td games are coming and he didn’t churn out too many yards behind those tds.

Some chargers reporter came out with his final roster, and Vidal was not on it.
That would be a surprise. I think the fantasy community is sometimes way off on what the NFL coaches think. Good examples of that are Zach Evans and Sean Tucker and to some degree DeWayne McBride.

I wish I could find the tweet, but he had Edwards, Dobbins, Spiller and another RB ahead of Vidal on the list. I cant remember the 4th guy(Patterson and Dotson are the others listed on FBG depth chart).
I wanted Vidal for my rookie draft, but he was taken higher than I expected.

Patterson is the other RB besides Edwards and Dobbins who has been getting 1st team work (mostly from when Edwards was out iirc). Seems like the running back rotation is those 3, and Spiller has maybe a leg up for last RB spot based on ST involvement (at least from what one beat writers said).

I see in X today that the Chargers will use a DT as a FB this year.
One way or another this is probably good news for Edwards at the goal line

Anyone still holding? Lackluster usage through 3 games. Herbert is ailing and may be held out this week vs. the Chiefs so the defense can key in more on the run. Alt has an MCL sprain. Chargers have a bye week in Week 5. Not sure he's worth burning a roster spot at this point.

Holding in the one league I roster him because the waiver wire is barren of better RB options.

I personally dropped. Heavy run team with Dobbins production deserving more reps. If you think a Dobbins injury is coming that is the only reason to keep.

I have him as my Dobbins handcuff.

Dropped for Bucky Irving. He was more of a TD or bust hopeful to me anyways so didn’t really hurt to let that go with Dobbins production

Dropping this week after the last waiver run so I can stash a QB to cover Hurts' bye week in week 5. With the Chargers also off week 5 I see no need to hold Edwards on my bench this week and over the bye next week. Even if Dobbins gets a boo-boo in week 4, with the bye week who knows how much Edwards would even be worth after that recovery time.

I think they are managing his touches to avoid injury (if they can)

Dropped him for Braelon Allen last week in a 12 team non-PPR

Dobbins definitely needs someone to split touches. I just haven't liked the Edwards touches and what he is able to do with them. I

#Chargers standout RB JK Dobbins suffered a knee sprain in Monday’s game that will cause him to miss some time, sources say.

He’s out this week against the #Falcons and up in the air after that. Gus Edwards is his backup.

Not sure what if anything Gus has left in the tank, but I'm rolling with him week 13 so I'm hoping for 12-15 carries, 60 yards and a TD.

I think that's a reasonable projection. But I do have concerns about Kimani Vidal's role but, initially Gus seems like a reasonable option.

Greg Roman loves and trusts Gus, so unless he absolutely has nothing in the tank, will definitely get 10+ carries this week and moving forward. He looked great his first game back but didn’t do much last week. I obv wouldn’t start him in a PPR league, but he’s a solid start in standard leagues imo He has a few rough matchups coming up up after the Falcons, witt the Chiefs, Bucs, and Broncos.

Brian Daboll loves and trusts Devin Singletary...

Gus looked good today on his 6 touches and should get more work moving forward…Vidal whiffed bad in pass pro on a key play and needs time to mature/grow

Vidal owners :drive:

That just means they're going running back at some point in the draft, me thinks. I don't think it really should tickle the Vidal owners too much right now until after the draft and free agency begins.
Agreed - looks like Vidal had an opportunity last year with Dobbins out and didn't do much with it. Have to think they'll find a replacement in FA and/or the draft.

If Vidal don't look good, we don't look good. #iykyk

Ship without a captain vibe.
Was he ever good without the coach?

All these talented rookies are going to push veterans out of the league and it's gonna be a "thanks for the memories" thing. I wonder if Edwards is one of them.
