there seemed to be a transition last game vs. the first 3 games. Pacheco got some garbage carries week one, then sporadic carries weeks 2 and 3. Then last game he got more carries, earlier in the game and looked better than CEH side by side. Then at halftime Rodney Harrison said that Pacheco was better and he should be the starter. I then yelled at the tv for Rodney to shut up until I could pick him up off waivers.

lol exactly.. and Chris Collinsworth said something like "When speaking with Andy Reid you get the feeling from the Chiefs that Pacheco is a secret weapon that they are about to unleash".

thanks for that....running for 5.7 ypc v. the stout TB defense is even more impressive. It wasn't just one big run either...he was consistently running for 6-9 yards. He also ran for 1 more ypc than CEH. CEH isn't going away but now it's looking like Pacheco is getting more touches...only downside is that he gets nothing receiving wise as that all goes to Mckinnon / CEH. If CEH goes down like Monty did a couple weeks ago Pacheco could be a league winner.

Yea definitely, and on 2 or 3 of these carries for a split second I thought he was gone. A breakaway run is coming soon

I’m getting caught up in the hype but my biggest concern is that he doesn’t catch the ball…or at least he hasn’t. In today’s fantasy, that’s huge. You essentially have to be a workhorse or be the goal line back to have real good value and I don’t think he’ll be either one of those either. So I think he may be like Sanders from last year without the injuries and maybe some more td’s.

For what it's worth in another post I saw. A guy was talking about how he has been watching Pachecho play since he was a kid apparently.

"I been watching this kid play since he was 7 years old. "Pop" will make a statement. Just watch the kid can play. First time he ever touched the ball he had a 67 yard td. He can hit and tackle. In HS he played line backer. "Pop" is a all around football player he just loves to play and don't care where. If u said go play center he would go in. Dude will be a number 1 rb I'm shocked he went 7th in the draft. He was over looked."

He has good hands. Watch his highlights in college. Just depends on how the chiefs will use him.

What makes me so excited about this guy is his ability to accelerate to top speed so quickly. That is definitely elite level acceleration

I play redraft, but the indicator I look for to determine a player getting more playing time is when the team removes said player from special teams. That, for me, is a good indicator the team values him more at the skills position over the risk of injury on special teams.

I am not sure if I missed it. Have they removed him from kickoff duties? I know Sky Moore was the punt returner against the Colts, but didn't pay attention to the kick returner.

I hesitate to write much anymore because it feels like most of my hot takes turn ice cold in a matter of weeks. I feel like I'm the grim reaper out there sometimes lol.

A few observations:

CEH looks good. I noticed this in the preseason but still thought that 2 years of him not looking good would be right. But maybe the whole health thing really was keeping him from being able to be effective. These things always make sense in retrospect but we can all be forgiven for not being able to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of storylines that end up being worthless versus the ones that actually mean something. "He was the best player on the team" LSU with Burrow/ Chase/ Jefferson was always lingering in the background but 2 years of failing the eyeball test is tough to ignore.

The KC OLine and running game/ scheme for running are not really great. They invested big time ~18 months ago in the OLine. It looks fine to me but it's in no way a road-grading, elite OLine to my eyes. And they don't plow open big running lanes or design their offense for this.

Pacheco still has a ways to go in terms of reading where and when to run. Yes, he's fast and physical. But he's not instinctive to my eyes in terms of where and when to hit it. And he's not especially slippery or elusive. Having the speed and strength are great. And the mental attitude is obviously off the charts. Greatness will elude him if he can't learn how to be better in those areas.

Love that the team loves him. Obviously the mental attitude is where the staff has him leaps and bounds ahead of RoJo.

The usage-- to me-- suggests that they see him as a trainee. They want him to learn the plays and the above skills. They value what he can bring but still think CEH and McKinnon are who they want executing the offense when the game's on the line.

Injuries happen, especially to RBs. If either of CEH or McKinnon are hurt, there's still no assurance they won't just reinvent this as a 3 back system with RoJo. But that's his best chance to being a guy you have in your lineup. Short of that. the re-emergence of CEH as a valuable, explosive weapon caps his ceiling.

It'll be fun to see how things unfold for the kid.

No. Believe he is still used in special teams. There is my point. Not looking to use a bench space on him yet.

Third hand info but I seem to remember it might have been Chase or Jefferson. It was a "Maybe we're all sleeping on CEH, he was once thought to be pretty good and maybe he's just been hurt" take that has proven more true than not in terms of his redraft value vs RoJo etc. Also, I am a total newbie in terms of CFB so will try to provide further context when I'm trying to make a point.

I gotcha. Maybe they were talking in terms of leadership. He was a very important part of that team, no doubt. He was a great college back and a great team mate. I don't think he's got the physical tools to be an elite NFL RB, but he's definitely the kind of guy you want on your team.

For fantasy purposes, probably best to stay away from all 3 of em.

Seems like Reid is using an all hands on deck approach with both the RBs and WRs given no superstars in either group of players. Seems to be working just fine for the team, just unfortunate for fantasy purposes.

McKinnon's early success running the ball stuck a fork in Pacheco's opportunity. Also, didn't help getting down early so they relied on the more veteran players. Bad game script but certainly disappointing considering how he performed last week.

I see this as McKinnon being used when KC was down 14 early. He’s more of the pass catching back. I’m assuming that if KC would have jumped out to an early lead instead of Vegas, CEH and IP would have split time pounding the ball.

yea that game was frustrating as far as Pachecho goes because we all know how much talent he has and want to see him have more opportunities. CEH looked bad though. When he gets hit he goes down immediately. I am sure because of his experience and knowledge of the offense he will continue to be the starter until he gets hurt.

The other thing CEH has going for him is that he is not touching the ball that much so his chances of getting hurt are less. This could be one of those situations where Pachecho goes off at the end of the season or in the playoffs...Hopefully he gets more and more involved earlier in the season. It has to be a matter of trust with his ability to protect Mahomes, and understanding the offense. He was actually graded as one of the best blocking RBs in this year's draft, so hopefully that trust grows soon.

For now he continues to be a lottery ticket with league winning upside

I mean in theory it makes sense. Against the Bills you want to control the clock with the run game and long drives to keep the Bills offense out of sync and off the field. The Bills definitely want to do that to the chiefs, but doesn't seem as effective with Allen/Singletary. I dropped him in redraft - don’t need RB depth anyway - but I’ll hold in dynasty. I’ve said all along he’s a long shot but I liked his skills and saw him in college and he made something out of nothing at Rutgers. Those are deep bench leagues - 30 man rosters.

Definitely has juice running the ball. Still think it'd take injuries to both CEH/McKinnon (or injury to one / other falls out of favor) for him to be fantasy valuable. If you can guess the blowout games, he probably sees more run.

McKinnon's not going anywhere IMO. He's the best all around back (run/receive/block) they have in my opinion. KC goes as Mahomes goes.

He seems very soft in regards to any kind of rushing strength. You can have all the quicks and flash you want, but if any arm or ankle tackle brings you down…

Problem is at 4.6 (with an admittedly good burst score) CEH lacks speed. And I don't think it's just long speed, but intermediate speed, too. People can say that long speed is overrated in running backs, but in KC's offense, which is designed to get people in space, intermediate speed and acceleration is huge. CEH's good gains should go further.

Yea. It's either injury to Edwards-Helaire/Mckinnon, or a late season/playoff explosion if/when he earns the full trust of the coaching staff, and the full grasp of the offense. Definitely a lottery ticket

Please don't take my criticism of Pacheco as a positive for CEH, I don't think he's very good either. Pacheco reminds me of a wind up toy; he'll come shot of a canon all jazzed up on a cafe latte but will also show very little instincts where to go. I think it was week 2 or 3 when the Chiefs went for it on 4th and 1. He ran right into the back of his line, then thought he got the first down. Awareness and vision seem to be an issue imo
