RB James Cook, BUF (3 Viewers)

Week 1 RB touches
  • Cook 22
  • Davis 4
  • Johnson 2
Week 2 RB touches
  • Cook 12
  • Davis 10

rookie Ray Davis was getting early work when it was still close

anyway, great game by James Cook - 9 TDs in his first 34 G, first 3 TD game last night

was encouraging to see Josh Allen only ran twice (9 times Week 1)

Allen had had his two middle fingers taped together in his left hand. So I’m sure they were at least attempting not to run him as much, to continue healing.

Sneaky play for OPOY at 30-1 on FD?

275+ touches 1750+ scrim yds and if he can vulture some carries at the GL from Allen then 15+ TDs possible.

Didn't look at my opponents lineup in my main league until this a.m., just was praying wasn't playing James Cook, checked this a.m. and of course playing against James Cook.

I can see Cook having some clunkers because that’s what he does. I just don’t see the TD upside but he’s always capable of these boom weeks, like last year.

I agree but I see some of the preseason favorites for OPOY already having question marks. CMC is hurt, Hill just lost his QB, Jefferson has Darnold throwing to him and Chase is just getting on the field. Granted it’s a long season and Barkley and Lamb are the betting favs now but I can see a scenario that the OPOY will be a guy that was somewhat of a price.

Davis is going to see work, and he just ran out the clock in this one. If this was close, Cook likely gets another 5-6 touches.

I thought that BUF was going to be more run heavy this year and that has been the case. Cook likely is going to be a steal as his ADP, especially if he continues to get goal line love.

One thing to note, during the after game interview with Josh Allen, Allen mentioned that Cook has been begging for more goal line opportunities and that they wanted to give him more. I forget the exact verbiage, but definitely a good sign. Seems like the bills have really come together as a team and are looking out for everyone.

Also interesting to hear Josh Allen's "on set" comments after the game... something to the effect of "no more stealing short TDs from the runningbacks"

Half-joking in his tone, but maybe with this left hand (which he described as having completely numb fingers) and new commitment to running the ball... bump up Cook (and Davis) and drop Josh Allen down a few notches in leagues where QBs get higher scores for rushing yds & rushing TDs.

Ray Davis looked pretty good when he ran the ball too. obviously not as good as Cook but if Cook went down I'd have no issue with picking him up and starting him.

when you lose your #1 and #2 WR to free agency, this was a logical conclusion. I figured they might run a bit more. and as Cook catches passes too, I figured if they dont run more, he will likely catch more passes. Either way this year looked good for him. better situation than last year. and hes no longer a rookie, so I expected a bump in his production anyways.

Agreed, everyone had him ranked higher this season versus 2023... I'm talking about ROS vs pre-season rankings. Imagine if he gets 1/2 to 2/3 of Josh Allen rushing TDs (In addition to what was projected for him)?

possible. though he was far from being a TD machine last year. Likely the reason I was able to get him in some of my drafts as cheap as I did. Yardage was good. TD not so good.

Obviously this has flipped so far this year, but the sample size in terms of games played is small. so its hard to say if this is a blip or a sign of things to come. Either way, I'm happy to see it. I own some shares of him in some of my leagues so I'm happy to see him performing.

I guess we got a glimpse of it last night... first goal line carry which probably would have been a lock Josh Allen TD plunge (normally) went to Cook. Maybe it's just the hand for now, or maybe a real effort to keep the QB from taking unnecessary hits. Could be a huge year for Cook.

Yes and no to the bolded. Cook was very clearly the first and second down guy as well as being in on goal line and must have plays (like the 4th down TD catch). It looked like the early game plan rotation was 2 series for cook and 1 for Davis. Most of the Davis carries came once the game was out of hand. Cook looks to have a strong hold on the bulk carries.

Agreed. They pulled Cook before they pulled Allen last night. In a close game he would have had a higher ratio of carries/touches to Davis IMO.

First 10 touches by RBs were Cook 5, Davis 3, Johnson 2. Somebody in the game thread asked if he was losing his job.

After he scored two TDs in the next 3 minutes they stopped chirping.

Bills are so dumb giving him so many touches, they're going to get him hurt.

Every 3rd touch goes to this guy. One of these times he's not going to get back up, why accelerate that process for meaningless exhibition games?

You want him healthy for the playoffs, you goofs.

This has to be a troll, right?

Jacob Gibbs
James Cook has been a bit more involved as a receiver so far in his third season. His target share is up from 10% to 13%.

Cook already has piled up 97 receiving yards in three games. He came so close to connecting on 47-yard TD reception last night!

Had a big one go right through his hands for a TD last night.
Sure did, beautiful throw over the shoulder.

Anyone picking up Ty or Davis?

Cook won't practice Wednesday due to foot and toe injuries, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Spin: According to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com, Cook is banged up coming out of last week's loss to Houston and now falls into the day-to-day category ahead of Monday's game against the Jets. Look for added context regarding Cook's status to arrive no later than Thursday, when the Bills will post their first official Week 6 injury report. While Cook is sidelined for at least Wednesday's session, Ty Johnson and Ray Davis are next up for reps out of the backfield.

As a Cook owner I’m not worried about it. They play Monday so it’s just a chance to get him a vet rest day.

Just picked up Ray Davis and dropped Blake Corum in redraft because of that news and this speculative tweet that speculates (quite unofficially) "turf toe":

It probably isn't actually turf toe, but being ahead of this kind of news is what wins leagues.

EDIT: To answer your question, Ray Davis is the primary backup and Ty Johnson is the third down/negative game script back. Ray's the one you want if Cook misses time.

This sounds like a classic veteran rest day to me. Those Yahoo fantasy blurbs do too much editorializing IMO.
Yahoo nothing to do with comment just copied / pasted from Rotowire.

Copy that. Doesn't change the fact that I don't believe this to be in any way serious.

Also, I'm probably looking elsewhere if Cook isn't able to go. Neither of the backups would be viable fantasy starts IMO.

Looks like he's limited again at practice, which has me leaning in a bit on this injury. Still, they don't play until Monday so this is basically a "Wednesday" for them. Still, I grabbed Davis just in case.

in the event one is forced to play cooks’ backup up do we have a consensus if it’s Davis or Johnson? Asking for a friend
If Cook happens to be out, obviously game script aside, I see Ray getting 20 touches. Dudes is baller.
Who is a better stash...Davis or T. Tracy (since both Cook and Singletary are banged up)?
Damn. Super close for me. Davis a better player but Porter better chance at production this year. Redraft give me Porter and dynasty give me Davis.

If Cook is out, I don’t have enough players to field a starting lineup without dropping my Allgeier handcuff. Waiting on Nabers news as well because that’ll determine if I pickup a RB or WR. Wondering if I should just stash Davis anyway. Turf toe could be 2-3 weeks.

2-3 weeks, if Cook is lucky. I’ve seen turf toe keep players out for entire seasons.
