RB James Cook, BUF (1 Viewer)

too little too late for my team this year, unfortunately.

But as many people said several pages back....this team was better served giving this kid touches (in both the passing and rushing game) than allowing Allen to try and play hero ball 50 times a week.
Yep, I'm in the same boat. Was eliminated before Cook started going off and I had to endure Breece In the Zach Wilson offense along with Garrett Wilson. Disaster of a year for my dynasty team.

1st rounder in redraft next year?
The RB position is horrible…he might just be end of the 1st / early 2nd. Look at the top guys from this year…Eckler is done, Jacobs is done, pollard did nothing this year, Barkley is done, Mixon stinks, who knows about Chubb, Henry is done, Harris is the lesser half of time share with Warren, Aaron jones is near the end

McAffrey is miles ahead of everyone and the #1 pick, and then you have Etienne, Bijan (love the talent hate the coach and situation), walker but he has Chardonnay there, certainly Gibbs, maybe Breece but looking at the landscape without putting much effort into it Cook is certainly top10, maybe top 5 depending on how the rest of the year goes. They certainly are succeeding putting the ball in his hands which is always a good sign.

They just knocked off the hottest team in the league riding on his back. They weren’t using him the right way early in the year and now they FINALLY are.

A bit too soon to say depending on if they bring in someone to pair with him next year, but he’s moving that way.

It does demonstrate another example of the trend to smaller RBs becoming big time fantasy assets.
The game has changed and you don’t need to run that guy up the gut for 20+ carries. You get him in space and use him as a receiver which he’s so good at. It really wasn’t that hard to see and his usage was extremely frustrating early in the year.

Barkley and Jacobs aren’t done.

Wait, they finally realized you need to get the ball into your best playmakers hands? And not bench them for fumbling one time? The amount of idiocy in this league is at an all time high level.
The benching after his first fumble was pure idiocy. Put Murray in and punish the entire team? Yeah, great idea

You guys think you did badly? I drafted Skyy Moore over this guy in a rookie draft and regretted it almost instantly. To the point where I almost sent out an offer of Skyy and a second for Cook. I wish I had done that then.
To be fair I had the 12/13 in that rookie draft and was actually considering trying to move up for Moore. I never sent anything but I wanted Moore badly. Turns out Cook and Dotson (whom I traded essentially pairing with a 2nd for Devonta Smith) was what I actually wanted. I get credit for great picks but seriously I was prepared to screw it up.

With Cook and Kyren Williams as my locked in RBs I'd say the zero rb draft I pulled off is finally working. Took a while though.

Definitely was a good year for it with guys like White, Montgomery, Cook, Pacheco, Kyren and ofcourse Mostert.

As soon as I dealt Cook, his next 4 games were good, better, better, wow, holy forking shirtballs!

Naturally he went ham against me in the playoffs in the league I had the best chance of winning.

You’re welcome, Cook shareholders.

Bills RB James Cook (illness) will return to practice on Thursday.

Cook missed Wednesday’s practice with an illness but never seemed to be in any real jeopardy to miss Saturday’s game against the Chargers. Bills head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that Cook would practice on Thursday and be good to go over the weekend. Since the change at offensive coordinator, Cook has been a revelation for both the Bills and fantasy managers and enjoyed a career day against the Cowboys in Week 15, rushing 25 times for 179 yards and a touchdown and catching 2-of-3 targets for 42 yards and another touchdown. He is firmly an RB1 for this weekend.

Alaina Getzenberg
Bills OC Joe Brady said that the work RB James Cook has put in this offseason is noticeable and that he looks different "in a good way."

Full quote from Brady on Cook: "He's physically in a better shape than he was, you can look at him and I can tell he put in a lot of work this offseason. He looks different and in a good way. So, I'm excited to see the type of run style that he kind of plays with this season"

I see we've fully hit "best shape of his life" snz.

ADP-47 overall right now
RB 12

He might see an increase in touches with Diggs and others gone from this offense.
I could see Cook easily gliding into the Top 6-8 if things go right for him, Late 4th round pick?
I cannot imagine he lasts that long

WRs like Pickens and Kirk around his area, he's a much better selection right now.
Tank Dell is being selected ahead of James Cook, this could be a possible career type season for Cook, I would want him on my team and would make me pause trying to load up on RBs in the 1st 2-3 rounds when he's sitting there in the middle of the 4th round to scoop up after you draft 2 stud WRs and possibly another stud like Saquon Barkley as your RB1, now we're getting somewhere

I have him in the RB12-16 range.

Lots of touches between the 20s. Will lose short yardage to Allen & Davis.

Ty Johnson and/or Evans will get some touches / receptions. Even Curtis Samuel will get some carries out of the backfield.

IMO his rushing workload will be smaller this year. PPR will keep him as a borderline RB1, but my gut says he’s going to disappoint at ADP.

I’m sure people are higher on him than me. I’m not a hater - I drafted him everywhere last year. Love the kid.

I can see a path for top-8 numbers for Cook, but I can also see Ray Davis taking a much bigger share than Murray did. Cook is a little boom/bust for me. I think he's an RB2. His current ADP is actually probably a bit high for me.

ETA: I'm absolutely taking Pickens over him.

I do worry about the upside this year.

Only 2 rushing TD's last year. Josh Allen will continue to steal a lot of the goal line work. Ray Davis was a touchdown machine at Kentucky, and has about 30 lbs on Cook.

I think he sets up as a between the 20's guy who breaks a few longer TD's.
Cook probably gets most of the passing work--but Ray Davis is a good pass catching back. 33 Receptions for 323 yards and 7 TDs against SEC competition last year. He could eat into some of the passing game work as well.

He finished as RB11 last year in 0.5 PPR. It feels like it's going to be tough for him to outdo that given the roster make up.

Bill’s typically ease rookies into the mix, I do not think Ray Davis will disrupt much of Cook’s production. Cook is not a goal line back but I can see him picking up more of the passing game this coming year and out scoring what he did last year in PPR.

He was never the goal line back, not sure why that is a concern now. Anything over two rushing TDs will be an improvement and bonus to his scoring.
He also scored 4 receiving touchdowns last year. He may lose some of those.

I don't know that anyone is saying Cook is awful, avoid at all costs. But I do think there's a very real upside concern here. People are saying he has a path top 8 in the thread. FBG has him as RB10.

It's not absurd or outlandish. But, consider, he finished as RB11 last year (0.5 PPR). Ray Davis and Josh Allen will get most of the goal line TD's. Allen won't dump it off as much as a lot of other QB's. Davis is actually pretty good in the passing game, and may take some of that work as well.

I'm certainly not saying Ray Davis is a threat to be the man, or that he's necessarily going to be a reliable starter. But I certainly think the situation caps Cook's upside. And going at RB10, I don't feel confident he outperforms that.

The Bills have been trying to get a complimentary big back in there for 2 years now. They even tried to resurrect Leonard Fournette, in a failed experiment.

Now they have a young, talented bruising back who is more than capable of eating into Cook’s workload. And I believe the Bills will give him more work than old & busted Murray got.

IMO they’re going to reduce Cook’s workload - it was high because of lack of other options. If they don’t, they’re gonna run him into the ground.

I don’t necessarily think Cook will have a worse FF season. The receptions will keep him PPR-worthy.

I just don’t think it will be a significantly better season.

FWIW, Davis is 24. I don't think you draft a 24 year old RB with the plan to spare him his 1st year.

Davis was also very good in the passing game at Kentucky: 33 Receptions, 300+ yards, 7 receiving touchdowns. He may very well get some of those touches. I don't think he's the primary pass catching back. But he may do enough to put a cap on Cook's receiving production/upside.

I think Cook is one of the safest RBs you can own…last year he had 1,567 total yards-44 receptions-6 TDs…I think it is very reasonable to think he matches that total…he is only in his third year and since he had a little under 300 touches in 4 years of college he has low mileage…when you look at the Buffalo backfield I think he is in a very nice spot…Davis could be solid as a 4th round addition and after that you have nothing too special in Johnson and Evans (and kind of Samuel if you want to include him)…IMO he is easily the overall option 1 in that backfield…sure Davis could be good but he could be bad as well and my guess is they drafted him to do what they hoped Harris could do last year but didn’t…I will easily take my chances on what his competition is…I just don’t see him being used less then last year and it is easy to see a scenario where he is used a little more…I am someone who builds his team WR first and due to that Cook is exactly the type of RB I target…he may not have the big time upside of some other RBs but I feel very comfortable he will finish in the high-end #2/low-end #1 territory and will be able to more than hold his own and contribute in weekly match-ups.
