RB Jaydon Blue, DAL (1 Viewer)

Completely boggles my mind that he'd come out. I'd say its unlikely he's drafted. No real production, average size, not much pop, not really fast. Solid enough pass catcher, but not a huge threat after the catch. Also, a bit of a fumbler.

If a team drafts him with a specific role in mind, namely as a receiving weapon, then he could be a decent late round sleeper. I don't think he's ever going to be much as a runner. Another RB to compare him to is LeQuint Allen. I think Allen is a better pure runner than Blue is and I believe he led the nation as a receiving RB. I probably prefer Allen over Blue, but I can definitely see a role in the NFL and in fantasy for Blue if he's used properly.

I'm a big fan, I'd say, at least before he runs(when I expect others to join the party) I'm higher on him vs consensus then probably any player in this draft for fantasy. He has some issues but the best of him looks incredible, Gibbs like burst and great pass catching skills.

Beast- #21 rated RB- 5th round grade
Explosive athlete
Dangerous in screen game
Undersized/ limited workload
Ball security issues

RSP- #19 rated grade 81.5- Rotational starter- Executes at a starter level in a role playing to their strengths. Waldman thinks he has some elite skills to be a lead back along the Ekeler type but the ball security could derail his career before the train leaves the station. "Blue is a good decision maker with game breaking speed, strong receiving skills and good contact balance and power for his current size."

Also, Blue came up on his podcast last week. Quite the discussion about ball security. For anyone interested in a deeper dive on the issue.

Looks like a decent committee back. Good get for a fifth rounder but the position group still underwhelming. Dallas needed to do more here.

Might work well with J Williams as 1-2nd down RB then. Williams has plenty left in the tank. Dallas will have a good+ Oline. They need Dak to play up to his contract for any of it to work.

Just got my first share and very curious how he looks in camp, DAL needs a fast play maker in the backfield or split out to create a mismatch

Borderline lazy?

In a recent Locked on Cowboys podcast appearance, former Dallas Cowboys coach Glenn Smith said that coaches with the Cowboys have expressed that rookie fifth-round running back Jaydon Blue is "borderline lazy" and that the team isn't happy with his work habits. Blue is expected to have a big role on offense and is very explosive, but it's not a great sign for him heading into training camp. The 21-year-old is also under 200 pounds and comes with ball-security issues from his college days. The Cowboys like Blue's speed and explosiveness, but he didn't work at all with the first-team offense in spring workouts, suggesting Dallas could open the year with a backfield consisting mostly of Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. The Cowboys will be hoping that Blue can mature quickly, but he's also no lock to make the roster out of training camp.--Keith Hernandez

That’s… not how you want to hear a rookie described.
Yeah, I can take he’s buried on the depth chart, which means nothing this time of year, or that he needs to work on something, but not that he is lazy. I have no shares for the reason I think he’s a pass catching only option. No skills as a runner. But you’re right, not a good look.

I checked 3 of my non DEVY leagues and he went 2.07, 3.02, 3.02. Not a huge investment for those that took him the 3rd, so that’s a silver lining I suppose.

No skills as a runner.
You keep saying that but his rushing metrics are not good, they are outstanding.
He had only 80 attempts for 431 yards his first two years and 134 for 730, his best was his last. I wouldn’t call that outstanding for college. When I watched him he didn’t look great as a runner and struggled between the tackles. His his vision seemed to be lacking in that area.

That's a volume situation, I'm talking about metrics.

Like being the #1 RB in the entire class in percentage of rushing yards and YPC after contact and 4th in the class in YPC when hit at or behind the LOS.

I’m not sure how well he translates to very much volume in the NFL if he struggles between the tackles in college. Maybe he improves. I think he will be used mostly as a receiving back. Still possibly an asset in ppr fantasy if he can get a lot of volume doing just that. If he doesn’t, I don’t see him being started in fantasy. Those that drafted him thinking workhorse (60% or better) may be disappointed, but I could be wrong of course.

As for the lazy thing reported, I’ll let it pass, but watch for anymore reports of that becoming a problem. The sky isn’t falling after one report.
Same.

Coach speak isn't just blowing sunshine up a player's keister, it can also be used to try to motivate players.

Ouch. I was avoiding this whole Cowboys RB situation. Ht I guess Mafah is intriguing super late. More and more I look, I think Dallas falls apart this year.

I don’t know if Dallas will fall apart, but if someone jokingly flips Jerry Jones’ face it would definitely fall apart given all that cosmetic facial surgery.

I’m getting bad vibes from Dallas

Yeah. Agreed, but if it's true (IF), then he won't last long. He may have a few good weeks, several maybe, but I've rarely seen those guys have a long & productive career. But, like you say, it's ONE report and not exactly damning at that.

The former coach saying publicly what the current Cowboys coach said, should have remained private. Perhaps all parties involved should keep their trap shut on stuff like that. Teams don’t usually embarrass a player like that publicly.

Maybe it was leaked on purpose to motivate him.

Most teams want to keep that stuff in house. You can call a player lazy in house with the same effect. I think it crosses the line when done this way. But that’s just me.

I agree, but when have the Cowboys done thing the right way?

I've thought since the draft, the play in Dallas (if any exists) is Miles Sanders. He's nothing special, but he has 3 1,000+ total yard seasons on his resume, and there's nobody as good as Chuba Hubbard in Dallas.

He was just so amazingly horrible in Carolina that’s it’s hard to believe he has juicy left at all.

But I have Javonte Williams in 2 leagues and I’m holding out hope.

ETA: I just looked and Sanders finished as RB52 (not ppg) both of the last 2 years in CAR. At least Javonte finished all the way up at RB30 last year ;)

I let Sanders go in dynasty for nothing to hold Sione Vaki. Probably unwise but he is awful as of now. Hubbard said something about the Panthers’ RB room this year and how it was better with the new guys, and the Eagles had no love for Sanders either. He strikes me as a knucklehead.

Cowboys likely don’t have their starting back even signed yet. Somebody else with some juice is likely to start. Check cuts. TCU’s Kendre Miller in New Orleans if he gets cut. Watch Khalil Herbert in Indy and see where he winds up. He and Dallas always come up (just like Dallas and Sanders) together.

What is Dallas doing with that room?

Jerry is trying to make the room bad enough to justify bringing Zeke back!
