RB Jaylen Warren, PIT (1 Viewer)

He's forgetting Mike Tomlin's man crush on Harris.

Tomlin could have pressured/forced the Steelers to pick up Najee’s 5th option but didn't, can’t be that big of a crush.
The proof in the pudding will be if they resign him. They could still do that even though they didn't pick up his 5th year option.

I personally don’t think that is very likely especially considering the contract Rhamondre Stevenson signed.
Not sure one has anything to do with the other.

I think only one player is highly likely has a huge impact on the line this year.(Fautanu)

Frazier may make an imact this year, but likely not until the second half of the season. I could be wrong there. but its a lot harder to predict rookie play for players taken outside of round 1. especially at Center.

McCormick likely doesnt make an impact until next year (possibly the year after) while its not impossible for him to make a difference in year 1, players taken at this point in the draft are generally considered to be developmental players.

my prediction is they go from being a below average line to an average or slightly above average line this year. the big leap likely happens next year for the line.

but still, running behind a line that is at least average is an improvement on where they were this time last year. and that will be good for the whole offense, but especially Naj.

I don't know where that stat is from, but this link says no RB had 50 broken tackles last year. Tops was 31.

PFF has 11 RBs with 50+ missed tackles forced. I guess technically that's a different (better in my opinion) stat than broken tackles as it includes cuts/jukes that made defenders in position miss, even if they didn't make contact.

CMC had 75 of those to lead the league.

ETA: Warren had 56 of those, 5th in the NFL. He was the only guy in the top-20 with under 200 carries.

Ryan Heath
One cool way to look at missed tackles forced is filtering for plays with 7+ defenders in the box.

This describes explosiveness on "typical" carries, and levels the playing field between players w/ different roles

Jaylen Warren still passes with flying colors.

Expected to miss "multiple weeks", at least the rest of the preseason. Unknown if he'll be ready for week 1.

I’m trying to figure out if this is “excuse to not play him rest of preseason” or legit hammy requiring multiple weeks.

He had 1 carry. How bad could it be? I’ve seen no reports of imagine or results.

I hate preseason.

Yeah, this is a tough one. I'm probably going to drop him down a tier until we get more clarity, if we ever do before the season starts.

Way I see it I might be able to get him a round or 2 later.

I’m not too worried about it going deep into the season.

At least I hope not - he’s mY RB2 in a 16-teamer. :oldunsure:

He's going to be okay. If anything, I'd bump him up a few spots. Everyone's zigging, put a nice zag on the draft board.

Bad teams that can't pass protect dump the ball off or the QB gets creamed. Just cover your ears and tell everyone, "I don't care that he's hurt. Everybody's hurt. This is football."

His ADP is listed at 84. In a 12 teamer that comes about to almost the last pick of the sixth or first pick of the 7th. Getting him as your 6th/7th player on your team is good business.

Great zero RB option. He's exactly the kind of player the guy who doesn't show up to draft autopicks and everyone laughs at that ends up having a great season. You've seen it.

Had him last year and was a steal. However, I don't like him as much with either Wilson or Fields at QB; From my memory, neither has been good checking it down to the RB, and both QBs have a propensity to take bad sacks.

Anyone know what's going on with this guy? I know he had the hamstring injury but thought he was past that. Doesn't look like he played much at all, and wasn't even used as a pass catcher.

I wouldn't count on Fields to return much to him as a pass catcher, maybe russ would help that.

Chargers are a good D

I dont think he is 100 "right" yet, myself.

Patterson is also worlds better than Benny Snail as a #3, plus he's one of "Artie's guys", so that has likely taken some snaps from him too.

Y'all holding or dropping?
Holding.
I don’t think Najee is all that, and if Warren gets healthy he could be huge later.
There’s nothing to hold here. Looking like a lost year and falling out of coaching favor here. His hamstring led to some other issues now so I wouldn’t be surprised if hes shut down for a while. Najee fits better what they are trying to do and C Patt I think carved into Warren’s role a bit

Warren was waived in my league, so I dropped J Wright for a flyer on Warren. I don't have high hopes, but just in case he is used later in the season, I wanted to stash him.

Here is my prediction on Warren (if it is his knee -not hammy) and why they have been so quiet with the MRI results. MRI results are known instantly. if it was an ACL (I don't believe it is) they would have announced it. If it was an MCL sprain they would have also announced it and said for sure he is 1-2 weeks out with it being minor or 4-6 weeks if major. Again nothing so don't believe it is MCL.

My prediction - torn meniscus. There are lots of ways a meniscus can be torn and different ways to deal with it. One if it isn't serious you can keep playing but risk further tearing and bits and pieces getting stuck in the knee and it locking up. Not great.

Depending on how it is torn he can go in for a clean-up. 4-6 weeks and he's back later this year. If the tear is in a spot that they think a full repair surgery is in order he is out 8 months and done for the year. The clean-up is quick and easy but long term can lead to arthritis in the knee and other issues. The repair means his season is done. Him and the team are likely trying to figure out the path forward.

Not a good start to the year for Warren.

I get the opposite feeling.
Trust me. I’m not dying on this hill. I’ll gladly rid myself of him if the next hot chick shows me just a tad of cleavage.

I’m pro cleavage.
I try to look without being noticed. Hey, my eyes are up here!!

Seems like a pretty good opportunity for Warren to re-take a sizable chunk of the backfield if he can get healthy. This offense needs a spark that Najee just can't seem to provide.

He's comfortably sitting on waivers in each league I'm in. Not sure if he gets picked back up this week but I certainly will drop Najee for him if Warren is practicing lol. Can't stand starting Najee anymore...every smash spot is a flop. It's like Zamir White

He's not on waivers in any of my leagues because he's on my roster, drafted him and holding out hope just want to see him play healthy before I let him go.

Probably wise

Any updates to this guy's health? Timeline to play? I can't seem to find anything, surprising.
Tomlin said on Monday that he's doubtful to play this week. No timeline though.
Already doubtful isn't a good sign- wonder why he's not on IR yet.
Maybe they think he won't miss the full four games - I believe this weekend will be his third one out.

Or maybe they don't have enough IR spots, similar to why Kupp wasn't put on IR by the Rams.

Steeler's run game is abysmal, and Warren is not suited as an every down back.
Agree on the first part and you're probably right on the second, but he hasn't exactly had a chance with Najee slogging it out. In any event, he may not have to be a full time back to have decent fantasy value.

Mike Tomlin assessed Jaylen Warren as “doubtful” on Tuesday but Warren didn’t look or sound doubtful today: “I feel great. I don’t know, that’s their decision, whatever they decide. But I feel good, I could play. If they let me out there, I’ll play. It’s their call.”
