I'm staying clear of the whole backfield. Lost a solid keeper and I don't see a replacement here. Blurgh.

Ryan Torain even had a thousand yard+ good year under Mike and Kyle.Shanahan running backs.
Which is why I was so high on McKinnon. Still, the value I had invested, I'm not seeing it come back in Alf or Breida. Maybe if they fall far enough I'll jump in but we have no idea what the usage will be.![]()

Maybe review the last three decades of Shanahan/Kubiak backfields and reevaluate.
It's really an open tryout right now, IMHO. Who can handle what they want to do with yards gained, pass catching, and blocking factored in. I see a full-on committee. I'll never forget rostering Hightower under Kyle Shanahan as OC of the 'Skins when Hightower, Torain, and Helu, Jr. were all "hot hand."Which is why I was so high on McKinnon. Still, the value I had invested, I'm not seeing it come back in Alf or Breida. Maybe if they fall far enough I'll jump in but we have no idea what the usage will be.
Breida is better than both.
Just sayingI updated my rankings and Morris is my RB31 and Breida my RB33. This is 1ppr. That's all I got.
Does Juice count? If I add his likely target share to Morris I get a borderline RB1.
If Shanahan doesn't have a clear lead back, you've gotten restrained by RBBC.Also in 2014 Shanahan trotted out the infamous Crowell, Tate, West three-headed monster. That doesn't exactly instill confidence.
I guess I agree but I don’t play floors, I play ceilings.Does Juice count? If I add his likely target share to Morris I get a borderline RB1.![]()
I'm being serious though, is Juszczyk's 340 yards included in that stat?

I wouldn’t sweat losing those 2 in rounds 4/5, too early for them IMO.Took him in Round 3 and a few hours later the news broke, and some one immediately snagged Morris and Breida at the turn before it got back to me.
Drafting this late you don’t think a player will be getting hurt before Week 1 is even played.
They went in Round 9 and 10 it was a few hours after I drafted McKinnon - slowish live in person draft.I wouldn’t sweat losing those 2 in rounds 4/5, too early for them IMO.
Ouch. No bueno. Sorry to hear that, Dr. Octopus. They went in Round 9 and 10 it was a few hours after I drafted McKinnon - slowish live in person draft.
In ppr Juszczyk will be more valuable than Breida.
They've figured it out.van SilvaVerified account @evansilva 2h2 hours ago
Sleeper (or maybe favorite) to lead #49ers backfield in receptions is FB Kyle Juszczyk. Alf Morris never a pass catcher. Matt Breida had only 8, 3, 11 receptions in 3 years at GA Southern & last year tied for 2nd most drops (6) among NFL RBs despite seeing only 36 targets.
NBC Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports Jerick McKinnon's ACL tear was "clean" and he underwent surgery on Tuesday.
McKinnon is still obviously done for the season, but it's good news the tear was deemed a clean one with no other ligament damage. It should expedite McKinnon's rehab process and have him ready well in time for the start of next season. McKinnon will be 27 and still in his prime by the time Week 1 rolls around.

Jerick McKinnon - RB - 49ers
Coach Kyle Shanahan said he envisions using Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida on the field at the same time next season.
Shanahan said he planned on using McKinnon and Breida at the same time this season, but McKinnon of course tore his ACL before those plans came to fruition. Since it was a "clean" tear and it happened in early September, McKinnon should be ready well ahead of the start of the 2019 season, but Breida's emergence has complicated McKinnon's 2019 outlook. The 49ers' usage of McKinnon and Breida will be a storyline going into next year's training camp, but Shanahan has made it clear that using both of them on the field together is in his plans.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Jerick McKinnon (torn ACL) is on track in his recovery and expects him to be the 49ers' lead back this season.
Matt Breida was great when healthy last season, proving he deserves playing time and touches, even when McKinnon is back. And talking last November, Shanahan said he envisions using both McKinnon and Breida on the field at the same time in 2019. McKinnon figures to be Shanahan's new Devonta Freeman with Breida playing the Tevin Coleman role from Shanahan's days with the Falcons. McKinnon and Breida should both have fantasy value this coming year.

It's Rotoworld. "Thinking" isn't exactly in the job description.Wouldn’t those roles be opposite? Breida is a terrible pass catcher so not sure what this guy is thinking.
Well for another thing, he used both Freeman and Coleman in the passing game. It's Rotoworld. "Thinking" isn't exactly in the job description.
I think he’s just saying McKinnon will see more of the work with Breida working in more than a typical backup. Freeman was used in the passing game more than Coleman was.voiceofunreason said:Wouldn’t those roles be opposite? Breida is a terrible pass catcher so not sure what this guy is thinking.

Yeah I checked the stats after and I was wrong on that.Is he?
Too lazy to look up stats, but my eyeballs seem to remember differently.
Breida was brutal in the passing game his rookie year. 36 targets, only 21 catches and 6 drops. Much better in 2018. 31 targets, 27 catches and zero drops. Is he?

Oh so he’s getting cut, right?[Graziano] In a related matter, there is $0 of guaranteed money left on Jerick McKinnon's contract, which he signed with the 49ers last year. McKinnon tore his ACL in camp and has never played a down for the 49ers. His 2019 salary does not guarantee until April 1.

When he signed it I had stated it was actually a two year contract in terms.Oh so he’s getting cut, right?
That's how I always analyzed it when he signed. They'd for sure lose $250,000 in cap space if they cut him, in addition to taking on a $6m dead money charge. It really makes little sense for them to cut for 2019 purposes but if they have motivation might before for 2020 so they can just get the cap hit off the books instead of taking a $4m cap hit next year. When he signed it I had stated it was actually a two year contract in terms.
that dead money charge is nothing.....Im guessing hes traded or cutThat's how I always analyzed it when he signed. I think they will keep him but I did read an article a few weeks ago from 49'ers beat writer and he was basically heavily speculating that between JMK, Breida and Mostert he felt one was not going to return and Mostert was the only who played special teams.
I agree, but I think he will be cut. He may latch on as a cuff to someone else.that dead money charge is nothing.....Im guessing hes traded or cut
McKinnon is no better than a RBBC back wherever he lands. I definitely think the 49'ers will cut him and draft a RB late to be their 3rd RB.I would not hit the panic button yet.
Shanny has a history with using 2 backs like Freeman and Coleman and the 49ers have the cash to do it. I would think after last season's injury issue he will keep 3 and McKinnon should be one of those 3. I see a 2 man committee here. I'm in no way worried about Mckinnon at this point if he is cut or traded then maybe depending on the landing spot. Coleman has not been a postcard for good health either. Take a breath and relax if you own Mckinnon this could be a good thing for them both.
So are Tevin and Breida and majority of RB situaiton's in the league. So what. Whoever Shanahan put back their was successful last year and a RBBC that throws to RB's can easily support two RB's. 49'ers are team that right now has 3 members of a RBBC and I fail to see any benefit right now for them to trim it down to 2.McKinnon is no better than a RBBC back wherever he lands.
Agree. McKinnon was getting rave reviews during camp last year. He was being compared in usage to Freeman. Now they have added Coleman to complete the backfield. Breida will get work also. Certainly if McKinnon is having problems rehabbing they may cut or trade him but otherwise I don't see a reason they would. It's not like they don't have cash to spend available. So are Tevin and Breida and majority of RB situaiton's in the league. So what.
